So You Think You Can Dance starts tonight!! Who's with me?

I would guess probably...I doubt the solos really mean all that much this early, but I do remember them telling people that their solo saved them, so I would think that meant they were probably on the chopping block before the results are revealed.

that's what we were discussing in our house....that solos may save them (esp. this early on)but we think the judges have ideas of who they are ready to let go. They see so much more of the Vegas week than we do (well duh:rotfl2:..that was toward me:rolleyes1) and know how the dancers have progressed or their promise so the judges have preconceived notion of who they want to go.

I think solos/dance for your life becomes more important later in the season.

I am probably overthinking things...but this is what you do when you are unemployed and have no life!!:rolleyes1

I liked Asuka in the beginning but she rubbed me the wrong way last night. After the other girls danced they hugged Cat and thanked her. They seemed sweet and thankful for being there. Asuka just gave the camera "come hither" looks and kept shaking her hips as she stood with Cat. The girl needs to be knocked down a few pegs, especially considering she was in the bottom 3. Don't like her. Aside from her though, I love everyone else! Literally everyone. I have some favorites over others but they're all awesome and seem like nice people. This is a great season!
I agree with everything you said - except there is one other girl I don't like. Her dancing a great, but Melissa's personality lost me fast. I can't wait to see the nasty burping ballerina say goodbye. Other than that, I LOVE the rest!!!!! :cloud9:

I'll be watching next week for the first time. I just found out Evan was in the top 20, and he went to the same school as my boys (he is a couple years older). I remember seeing him as an eighth grader in the middle school production of "Bugsy Malone", and again in "Beauty and the Beast" his senior year. He was phenomenal as Lumiere!

Were the Tango couple from that World of Dance show (can't believe I am admitting to watching that show, it was terrible :scared:)? They looked familiar to me.

I believe so, not totally sure. But, I am glad to see that someof their guest acts are dance acts. Last season, they had way too many singing acts.

If anyone is on Twitter, both Adam and Nigel tweet during the show. They are amazingly frank with their comments. It's interesting to follow. Adam is adamshankman and Nigel is dizzyfeet.

SPOILERS from tonight's show (kinda)

Is anyone else watching tonight???

Or is this season already a bust for people??

I was thinking about past season's threads and liked how we used to pick our top and bottom so here are mine for this week.

Top 3
Karla and Jonathan - wonderful
Asuka and Vitolio - beautiful
Randi and Evan - fun! I know it wasn't technically great but it made me want to dance

Bottom 3
Caitlin and Jason
Jeanine and Phillip
Ashley and Kupono

I did like the other 3. Jeanette and Brandon were really good and so was Ade and Melissa. I was eh on Max and Kayla even thought I really wanted to like them. I think I just hate Brian Friedman. I REALLY hope he doesn't judge again!

I liked how Lil C changed his tune about Brandon now that Mia wasn't sitting there. Not that I understand 2/3 of what he says....

ETA: need a refresher?

I wasn't able to watch most of tonight...so I will hold off my comments until next week when I get to watch again!!:goodvibes

Can I just say the for some reason Brandon and Lil' C are rubbing me the WRONG WAY. Lil' C likes to use these outrageous comparisons, and throws in one to many LARGE words, that really don't make sense. And Brandon, I just find him so completely fake that it isn't even funny...

So to the dancing the best couples of the night:
-Ade and Melissa
-Jonathan and Karla
-Asuka and Vitolio

The most disappointing:
-Phillip and Jeanine
-Jason and Caitlin
-Kupono and Ashley

Who I am rooting for:

Max, Jonathan, Evan, Randy, Jason, Phillip, and Jeanine.

I have a question, if someone is a professional dancer, and they have a contract, are they disqualified like in American Idol? Like Kayla is already apart of a pretty well known Hip Hop group...

As a newbie to the show, I have a couple questions.

Do the dancers always perform different genres in one show? Or was that just this week's theme?

When they have the elimination show, are contestants voted off as a couple? Or do they take the two bottom dancers and then rearrange the couples?

As far as last night's show, I did think Evan's dance was "fun"! I was really disappointed in the Tango. I normally love watching people dance the Tango, but I did not like what they did at all!

Yes, they dance different genres in each show.

The bottom 3 couple "dance for their lives" as individuals. The judges then decide who goes - it has nothing to do with couples at this point.

If 2 individuals are voted off and they are not a couple already the 2 remaining will now be a new couple. Last week actually a couple was voted off so everyone stayed as is.

As for the Tango, you need to realize that Philip has absolutely no training in that genre so it wasn't the greatest, but I also think it could of be worse. I kind of hope they are in the bottom 3, not because I don't like the couple, because I really do - but because I want to see Philip's solo, it should be awesome.... Time will soon tell!

I absolutely 100% cannot stand Brandon. Mia was spot on with calling him out on being fake. He absolutely drives me bonkers....and yeah right he doesn't lift weights. He must be bench pressing girls every day then......

It has been driving me crazy, but I finally figured out who he reminds me of....Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air! When he does his girly little dances on stage during the judges comments.....they could be twins :happytv:

And what was up with the judges going abolutely bonkers over that routine for? I thought the first half was great and I agree it was fast and challenging choreography, but the lifts were so labored and they just kind of ran out of steam. I did not think it was "bonkers worthy" of a performance. Mary usually cracks me up, but I had to fast forward through her on that one because it was way over the top without being warranted! My guess is that they were dangerously close to the bottom 3 last week and the judges dont' want to tarnish their "front runner" status.

I actually like pretty much everyone else. I really liked Karla and Jonathans dance and Melissa and Ade's dance. I was a bit disappointed in all the ballroom tongiht and the hip hop. It will be interesting to see who goes home tonight!

Finally, smooth Nigel for giving props to Louis Van Amstel this week after the blatant omission last week. Haha, I guess he does read the internet message boards......

OMG Brandon is SO Carlton. That is funny. I don't hate him. He is not one of my faves but I think he is super talented. He is just very goofy.

I don't agree with Mia because she called him arrogant and I don't think he is arrogant at all. Danny was arrogant and stood there looking at the judges like they were idiots and then had the nerve to challenge them on their critiques.

Re: Louie Van Amstel. I like how they are switching ppl with DWTS and that they are in a way working together to further dance in general. With Lacey, Chelsea and Dmitry on DWTS and now Louis doing SYTYCD (I swear he also did something in season 1.) I don't know, I just like the cooperation rather than competition.

I'm glad to see Wade back. I'd like him to judge. I could do w/out Mia judging. I like that Shane is back choreographing and I didn't mind him as a judge.

Lil C is on my last nerve.

I hope we don't see too much of "B-Free." I didn't really like the dance last night and he was an annoying judge.

disneyworldluvr349 professional dancers are allowed to compete. In fact they encourage it. As long as they can be temporarily released from their contract they are in. Blake in season was well known in the music video arena and had even worked for Brian Friedman (who was a regular judge and choreographer.) Danny had a contract with the America Ballet Theater when he did the show. Lacey had been in at least one video (with Benji) when she was a contestant. Ryan, Hok and ... (crap) were all part of the same hip hop group before and after the show.

You mean Fresh Prince? The one with Will Smith?

I have trouble keeping the names straight, but nothing really blew me away this week like it did last week.

I do think the judges went a little overboard with their praise of the blond chick...

Oops, yes, that is what I meant :scared: They both have Bell in them, I guess that is where my mind shut down :lmao:

Maybe it's me, but isn't it a little hard to be able to dance Mia's choreography? It would seem that contemporary is felt from the heart as well as being a dancer. I think they give way too much credit for Mia's place in this show. Am I wrong?:confused3 Not being a dancer, I would not know. I love some of her dances from season's past. Didn't she do the bench dance from a few seasons ago? I mean, I like her but don't get the oohs and aahs from everyone. I think Wade is by far the best!

My favorite person on the show is Cat. She is fabulous! She is so real and down to earth. I think she is my favorite host on any of these type of shows. I love her!!!!!!!!!!

I liked most of the dances last night, but not as much as last week. I can't stand Lil C, he tries to sound sophisticated by using as many big words and over-the-top phrases as possible, which ultimately makes him sound like he has no idea what he's talking about. There's something about him that just really gets on my nerves. Brandon, though, doesn't bother me at all. I don't get what people don't like about him... he doesn't seem arrogant or fake to me  I actually think he's entertaining!

Top 3
Randi and Evan - I didn't get where the disappointment came from, I thought they were really fun!

Janette and Brandon - That was really fun too! Disco's usually the kiss of death on this show but they pulled it off!

Karla and Jonathan - That was really pretty

Bottom 3
Caitlin and Jason - I really like them both, but Caitlin was horrible at this. They'll probably be in the bottom but hopefully neither go home.

Jeanine and Philp - I really like Philip and think he's one of the most entertaining guys on the show, but that was horrible. He has a ton of fans though so I wouldn't doubt them not being in the bottom 3. I can't even picture what Jeanine looks like right now so I guess she can go soon

Ashley and Kupono - Another two who I like but just didn't do well! It's gonna be hard to start picking who I want sent home since I like almost everyone left.

As for contracts, it doesn't really matter if they're under contract, as long as they can get out of it long enough to do the show and go on tour. It isn't like American Idol where the winner gets a contract so being a professional, signed singer wouldn't work. So You Think You Can Dance is just to find America's favorite dancer (I like how they say "favorite" instead of "best") and the winner gets a cash prize.

I can't speak to the difficulty as anything but an observer, but it looks VERY difficult to me...especially to those without any kind of backround in the style...it always comes across to me as a jerky, sped-up ballet with very specific movements...I used to hate it, but now I think many of the best routines are hers and others in the style.

I still think Wade is my favorite too!
And I ususally love Shane, but both routines (and couples) were disappointing this week.

Anyone else love the Canadian's routine? Nice shot-out to SYTYCD Canada...lol DH was like, now I have to go look that show up! :thumbsup2

The thing about Mia........she said in the beginning I love to throw people out and that left a bad taste in my mouth. I have really liked her over the years. I know she is very talented and everything, but she kinda lets everyone know that over and over again. It's nice to be humble even if people think you are the best.
