So You Think You Can Dance Season 6

....it was okay - after seeing Brandon and Jeanette [Season 5] perform THEIRS live, nothing comes close for me...:guilty:

In fact, I'm kind of underwhelmed by most of the dancers this season. Jakob is good, but even he isn't as good as Brandon, IMHO.

Yeah, for all of Mary's screaming "This is going to be the BEST SEASON EVER!!!!!" I don't think so. I guess what they don't really know is how a dancer can perform outside their area. They must have had high hopes for the tappers that didn't pan out.

I still haven't seen all of the shows but I do know the results and even without seeing the performances I'm ok with them.

But I agree that this season is lackluster at best. SYTYCD used to be must see TV for me and right not it's not. I thought by now I'd be more into it but I'm not.

I think when casting the Top 20 they had high hopes on Paula VanOppen and Billy Bell. Paula turned the Top 20 down and Billy left the competition.

I was expecting more from Russell. He seems to be lacking growth and star power. Nathan too.

Like everyone else, I hated Legacy in the audition process. I thought he was arrogant and not that great of a b-boy. But he is the one stepping up. He is really growing and has become much more likable.

I was applauding Nigel calling Molly and Nathan out on their "star" attitude. he was more than a little annoyed with the cocky answer that Nathan gave Cat adn I think he wanted to let them both know that the 12 YO girls who are calling Nathan are not going to be in charge of hiring either one of them nor will they be paying their bills. Better dance and learn fast!

I'm with you there. I really haven't seen anyone that I find myself going: 'what are they going to dance this week? I can't wait to see it'. I was that way with Kayla and some others from last season. No one this season really has caught my eye.

I was happy to see Nigel call them out on their solos. They were really not great.

Me too.

Nigel is nothing if not brutally honest with the dancers. That's a great thing.

So who went home, people?

As boring as I have heard the show was--I don't know if I want to bother with the results show. Was the group dance at least entertaining?

The big difference between Nigel and the Brit judge on that singing show :rolleyes:is that Nigel isn't a jerk about it. He even apologized via Twitter last night for telling the audience to "shut up".

I guess it's past the show enough to answer this. Peter and Pauline were the two to be sent home. So, there go the last of the tappers.

I actually love Simon too. I think that judges on shows are often too 'nice' and don't really offer the constructive criticism that contestants need to hear if they are going to change themselves for the better.

I DVRed Tuesday's show so I watched it last night before the elimination show.

I don't get the draw of Channing, I didn't get it when she was auditioning either. She is a great dancer but so are millions of others that auditioned, I feel that she is just okay.

I didn't like Legacy when he was auditioning (or his partner...is that Kathryn??) but I like them both now in the competition. I hope they go far.

I thought that Ryan and Ellenore's dance was terrible. I didn't really enjoy the choreography or the costumes. I liked Ryan during the auditions but I am not too crazy about him now.

Who else? Who else....oh yeah. Molly and Nathan. They are an adorable couple but salsa is SO not for them. I am wondering how they will do with a waltz or something like that.

Peter and Pauline's routine was really cute but for some reason I find them forgettable. And I guess the rest of America feels the same way! I hope I can catch Tuesday's episode ON Tuesday so I can vote!

The group dance this week was a great Dave Scott number.

I said during the Vegas rounds & selection of top 20 I wasn't impressed w/ Legacy but I would wait and see if he could prove me wrong like Jeanette did last season. He definitely is & I look forward to seeing how far he can take it.

I don't think we've even begun to see enough of Jakob to dismiss his ability as less than Brandon's. Remember Brandon got an awful lot of airtime early last season because of the whole Mia/Mary flap & what came out of that, even though the backstory on that situation wasn't ever explained on the show. I definitely think we can look forward to some great stuff from Jakob, we've just got to be a little more patient for him to get a chance to show it on camera.

Unfortunately, with Jakob, we have to get Ashleigh. I don't care for her--she and Ryan can go next week, and I'm good.

Nathan really showed some immaturity this week. I know he's young, but he's got to do a little growing up during judging. I got the distinct impression that his butt would have been booted this week, had he been in the bottom three.

Overall, I thought last night was pretty forgettable. Another "Death by Quickstep", most of the other dancing not fantastic. I did like the Afrojazz, and I thought Jakob looked like the perfect 40's style villain--he'd be twirling his moustache if he wasn't holding on to that cane!

You know, Nigel has a pretty tough job. Everyone has favorite dancers, nobody wants people to go home. He's genuinely trying to improve the overall level of dance--I think it's very rude for the audience to boo. He's trying to be constructive. If you don't know where you went wrong, how can you fix it? That's true in anything.

I more than agree with you, BuzznBelle'sMom about Ashleigh! I want she & her hubby gone, like yesterday. Although I do have to say I was surprised Ryan's solo was not at all what I thought it would be, and I actually have to say I felt he did a credible job on it. What absolutely shocked me about his solo was the fact that he not only wore a shirt, but it was buttoned all the way up -- for the entire dance! Never would have guessed it.

I thought the reveal of the bottom three was also interesting because I think it revealed a lot about Karen (if looks could kill). It was absolutely reinforced when the elimination was announced & a broken hearted Pauline turned to Ellenore and obviously neither expected or received any acknowledgment from Karen.

Constructive criticism to dancers is worth its weight in gold. Lil' C's comments have been a real source of that the past couple of seasons. Adam throws out some really useful thoughts pretty regularly. When Mary is technical, particularly w/ the ballroom styles, she's generally spot on. Sometimes Nigel is quite helpful & sometimes he's way out of line -- IMO commenting on Evan's looks last season was disgusting.

My guess is Nigel's comments to Nathan & Mollee had more to do w/ offscreen stuff than just the arrogant comment on the broadcast. DD reminded me how Nathan got to the top 20. Auditioned for season 5, but was too young so he was given a ticket to Vegas for this season because he would be of age. Gigantic ego boost. Then in Vegas he was awarded a top 20 spot with glowing reviews over dancers who have tried for several years to make it on the show and a dancer who narrowly missed making last season's top 20. Huge ego boost. Season starts airing & it's nothing but great reviews & lots of feedback about being fan favorites. Ego must be sky high. I think Nigel knew he needed to be cruel to be kind. The kid is obviously a very talented dancer. I hope next week we see him dance from a whole new perspective of maturity.

BTW, the queen of useless commentary, I can't even legitimately call it critiquing, has to be Toni Basil. When Nigel used the term street last night, I think talking to Kevin, DD & I just looked at each other in horror. You can say road, avenue, highway or freeway. Even if it's paved in gold, street is a word no longer welcome in our house.

Speaking of Karen, is it me or is she not nearly as hot as the judges keep going on about? I don't see it. She is not what I would call 'smoldering' or sexually intimidating.

...I thought that it was very similar to last year's group number, "Higher Ground"...

No - I agree with you. I think she comes across trashy.

I really hate insulting people on looks because she isn't ugly and I really do believe that everyone is beautiful in their own way but she just isn't coming across as smokin as they say.

Trashy is a good way to describe her. I'm sure she's not actually a trashy lady and it's probably unfair to categorize her as such but hey...
