Something else I'm trying to think of....and Butterfly Kisses is OUT! I am SO SICK of that song!

My Dad and I danced to Louis Armstrongs "What a Wonderful World" He was going through chemo so we needed a short song as he didn't have a lot of energy.

The pic of us is one of my favorites from my wedding. :goodvibes

we danced to Louis Armstrong's wonderful world, too.

when you are choosing I would recommend you consider the length of the song. my mil chose Memories and omg, it went on and on and on. she and dh started looking a bit uncomfortable eventually. just something to think about :)

Last April 3 when my oldest son was married they had a father/bride - groom/mother dance. We danced to Through the Years with Kenny Rogers.

I told the DJ that I did not want Daddy's Little Girl and they played it anyway.

Wind Beneath My Wings from Beaches, it made me cry.

The traditional "Daddy's little Girl".

There's a part while we're dancing on my video that they freeze frame for about 30 seconds as we're dancing to it and he and I are just looking right at each other and he's singing to me and I'm all teary....it's very emotional for me, he raised me and the song was perfect for us.

Billy Joel's Lullabye. It's a father singing to his child. Also, not a very long song, which is good if Dad doesnt like being center of attention. Here are the words:

Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)
River Of Dreams Released: 1993
Goodnight, my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions for another day
I think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark
And deep inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your life will be
Someday your child may cry
And if you sing this lullabye
Then in your heart
There will always be a part of me

Someday we'll all be gone
But lullabyes go on and on...
They never die
That's how you
And I
Will be

We danced to "Daddy's Little Girl" because he would always sing it to me. My dad is gone 9 years now..and I can't listen to that song without tearing up.

My dad and I danced to a country song called "Swinging" by John Anderson. It's an update song that he and I listened to/danced to many times when I was a little girl. I have to say that was on the best choices I made for the whole reception. Seeing the look in my dad's eyes when the song was announced was priceless. The rest of my family loved it to b/c they know my dad and I loved to "cut a rug" when I was growing up. I didn't want the traditional slow sappy song.

My dad and I danced to Nat King Cole and his daughter Natalie Cole singing Unforgettable. It was really nice.

My dad and I also danced to "What a Wonderful World". Good choice for us because neither of us can dance! :rotfl2:

We did a father/bride and mother/groom dance to Through the Years by Kenny Rogers.

I really wanted just a father/bride dance to "To Sir With Love," but somebody talked me out of it. She said it was too "dependent and submissive" for 1990. As I look back, I really don't think so and I regret going along with her opinion. To this day, it still makes me think of Daddy and I wish I had had the guts to go with what I wanted.

I don't typically make references to my wedding for various reaspons (not still with the man I married) but since this particular part doesn't involve him...

I danced to Once Upon a December from Anastasia. In the film, when Anya is dreaming of her father, they waltz to this song.

Dancing bears, painted wings,
Things I almost remember,
And a song someone sings,
Once upon a December.
Someone holds me safe and warm,
horses prance through a silver storm,
figures dancing gracefully,
across my memory.
Far away, long ago,
Glowing dim as an ember,
Things my heart used to know,
once upon a December.

Someone holds me safe and warm,
Horses prance through a silver storm.
Figures dancing gracefully,
across my memory.
Far away, long ago,
glowing dim as an ember,
things my heart, used to know
things it yearns to remember,
And a song someone sings,
Once upon a December

My Dad insisted on "Sunrise Sunset," which I hated. It meant a lot to him and so I went along with it, and I'm glad I did because it was way more important to him than to me.

I had a list of other options, including "My Girl" and "Shower the People" (James Taylor).

I just went to a wedding and the Bride and her father danced to Josh Groban's " You Raise Me Up." It was one of the prettiest songs for that occasion that I have ever heard.

My Dad and I danced to John Michael Montgomery's She thinks I can Rope the Moon. There wasn't a dry eye in the place.
