So, what song did you and your dad dance to at your wedding?

DF and I danced to "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion. Kind of a long song, but the words just fit so well. :goodvibes

My father had already died before I married, so I did the "father-daughter" dance with my new FIL. We danced to Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World".

Like disneymcgraw , my step-father and I danced to Natalie and Nat King Cole's Unforgettable. It worked for us. Father and daughter singing that song togehter made it work even more. Give it a listen as an option.

My dad and I danced to Faith Hill's There you'll be. My son and I danced to " I Hope you Dance.

My dad and I danced to Celine Dion "Because You Loved Me" and my husband and his mom danced to "Through The Years"

My father died when I was 17, so I danced to "Times of Your Life" by Paul Anka, 1st half with my step-grandfather and 2nd half with one of my uncles. My husband and his mom danced to "Blessed" by Elton John. He didn't want to be out there dancing with his mom forever so he told the DJ to cut it when he made a signal, which he did once he saw people losing interest.

Last April 3 when my oldest son was married they had a father/bride - groom/mother dance. We danced to Through the Years with Kenny Rogers.

We did the same thing. Combined them both & used Through the Years.

My dad and I danced to Nat King Cole and his daughter Natalie Cole singing Unforgettable. It was really nice.

That is the song that my dad and I danced to.

We combined the father/daughter and mother/son dance into one. We all danced to “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion.

"To A Sleeping Beauty" by Jimmy Dean....yup the sausage guy!

By the time people at the reception realized what was going on...and it wasn't a song they'd heard before, you could hear pin drop...then there wasn't a dry eye in the place. I surprised my dad with the song, which had a long history with us, but he thought I had forgotten about! It's a bit long, but the words are perfect...at least they were for us. I still can't read these lyrics without getting teary eyed.

Dear daughter I tiptoed to your room tonight
And I looked down at you smiling in your sleep.
You were so lovely my heart nearly broke
And I thought how very much like sleeping beauty a little girl is.
When I tuck you in at night I never know how old you'll be when you wake.
One evening you crawl on your dad's lap and throw your arms around his neck
The next morning you might be much too grownup for that sort of thing .
You're so quickly approachin' my awkward age
Too young to drive a car and yet too old to be carried
Into the house half asleep on daddy's shoulder.
I have a secret that I've never told you Sleeping Beauty.
You're going on a very exciting trip.
You'll travel from yesterday all the way to tomorrow.
It's a rapid journey and you'll travel light
Leavin' behind your measles, mumps, freckles, bumps, bubblegum, and me.
I promise not to feel too hurt when you discover
That the world is more important than your daddy's lap.
Yesterday you were blue-jeaned and pig-tailed the neighborhood's best tree-climber.
Tomorrow you'll be blue-organdie and ponny-tailed
And you'll view the world from a loftier perch...a pair of high-heel shoes.
Yesterday you could mend a doll's broken leg with a hug,
Tomorrow you'll be able to break a young man's heart with a kiss.
Yesterday you could get lost one aisle away from me in a supermarket.
Now I have to worry about losin' you down another aisle to some strange young man.
You see just at the point where your growing pains stop mine begin.
Yesterday you were kind of a pain in the neck when you were around.
Tomorrow you'll be an ache in my heart when you're not.
Tomorrow you'll lay aside your jumprope and tie up the telephone lines,
And that little boy that used to push you in the mud
Well he'll fight to set out a dance with you.
The clock upstairs is countin' the minutes for you
And the sky upstairs is savin' its brightest stars
And the sun is waitin' with its shinest day.
Oh I can't expect you to live in a dollhouse forever.
Sooner or later the butterfly sheds its cocoon and the smallest bird must try its wings.
But when you grow up and out of my arms when you finally get too big for my shirts,
I'll still recall how you used to scatter dust and dolls
through every room in the house, but you spread sunshine too.
The dust is settled your mom picked up the dolls
But the sunshine will always fill the corners of our hearts.
So here I am talkin' in your sleep
Because, well, if you saw this look on my face you'd laugh.
And if I spoke with this lump in my throat I'd cry.
Yeah honey when I looked at you tonight you were a Sleeping Beauty.
So I tiptoed over and I kissed you; you didn't wake up I knew you wouldn't.
According to the legend only the handsome young prince can open your eyes
And I'm just the father of a future bride.
So you sleep on pretty thing; tomorrow you'll awake and you'll be a young lady and you won't even realize that you've changed courses in the middle of a dream.
But you might notice this little change in me.
I look a little different somehow; a little sadder, a little wiser, but a whole lot richer.
You see tonight I kissed a princess and I feel like a king!

My Dad and I danced to Bob Dylan's Forever Young. I love the lyrics:

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

:)

Because you loved me-Celine Dion. But there's another song by that guy that sounds like Elton John (in my opinion). I can never remember his name but the song's name is "beautiful in my eyes" (I think). I've always thought it was such a perfect song for a father/daughter dance, but it wasn't around when I got married in 1999.

Hopefully someone will know what the heck I'm talking about because it's a great song!
