So what makes you happy at WDW that probably makes no one else happy???

After browsing the "So what bothers you at WDW that may not bother anyone else???" thread, I thought that it would be fun to start a counter thread, about the small, potentially weird things that you love about Disney, that others wouldn't necessarily notice (let alone love).

  • The odor of ride vehicles at Splash Mountain, and queue handrails at BTMR. They. are. disgusting. They smell gross after constant wetness, humidity and human contact, and feel dirty and fake to the touch, but I adore it. I can't get that smell anywhere else, and I revel in it during every single trip. Seriously - I touch the BTMR handrails on purpose.
  • Bat stanchions at Haunted Mansion. I rub the top of their heads like I would rub Buddha's belly for good luck. Maybe I'm on to something there, because I've never had bad luck at Disney.
  • I love the awful theme park pizza, especially the delivery you can get in your room. It is so bad (and so bad for you), but at the same time, totally delicious. My last trip to WDW brought me to Pizza Planet, which may be the king of really-terrible-but-somehow-fabulous theme park pizza.
  • The smell of gift shops. I don't know what the smell is (synthetic plastics? antimicrobial sanitizers?) but it gets me really excited. It doesn't really make me want to buy anything, but it does give me a little energy buzz, and makes me so thankful to be at Disney.
  • I'm sure this isn't unique - but I love seeing other people's children during their moments of happiness. Their giggles make me smile (and sometimes make me cry), and I love when I get to witness a child's love for Disney bloom. On my last trip I heard a young boy school his mother on newly-learned Disney trivia, while his little sister looked to her mom and said "mom, what does 'Walt' mean?" Obviously, my heart exploded into a thousand joy-saturated pieces.

Anyone else care to share their weird and wacky Disney loves?

Holy crud, I was JUST thinking about the handrails at BTMRR and how much I love them for some strange reason. Don't think its the smell for me, I just think its the fake "frontier" look to them

Getting stuck on rides....admittedly ,not for long periods of time, and not when the lights go up. But just enough to where you can really soak up the atmosphere of the ride. Ex: my daughter and I were stopped a couple of times on Haunted Mansion the last time we went. It was so much fun getting to really look at the stuff in the hallway....not to mention the guy who reached out from the other doombuggy and grabbed my daughter...priceless!!! I'll just go ahead and classify this as being stopped not stuck!

Oh this looks like great fun! Good post!

1) The morning announcements after the Magic Kingdom Welcome Show. From the moment Mickey says "Have a Disney Day!" to the announcer saying "whether this is your first visit or your 100th, we welcome you to our family of over 500,000,000 guests" to my favorite rendition of Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah." Most people are running to their first attraction, but I like staying in town square for a few minutes and really relish that I'm in one of my favorite places.
2) The napkin twirling at various restaurants. I know they do this at Whispering Canyon and Chef Mickey's, maybe others. I find the actual act of twirling the napkin gross since food is probably flying everywhere, but for whatever reason in that moment, I laugh so hard and twirl. that. napkin!
3) The atmosphere of the WDW lakes on a warm, humid Florida morning.
4) The smell of the Polynesian lobby.

I'm sure I'll come up with more, but this is my start!!

Oh, I thought of another thing...theres this one part in Pirates where there's a fake "alleyway" (it's in the section where the village is on fire) that looks like a little road that goes further down into the village, and since I was a kid I would always think in my head about where it might "lead." It's a small detail that adds so much realism to the backdrop of the ride, and for me it sums up WDW's attention to detail.

I love this thread!
  • Walking down Main Street and waving at all the CMs with the Mickey gloves. I think I like it even more than the welcome show!
  • The part in the Winnie-the-Pooh ride where Roo is flying around and Kanga is worried, and then Roo says "Look, Mama, look! I'm a kite!" The first year we went to Disney we videotaped that ride and you can distinctly hear Roo shout his part and my mom tries to repeat it but yells "Look, mama, look! I'm a PLANE!" We laugh about it 9 years later and I always yell "I'm a plane!" as we zoom by that part.
  • Pin trading for the mystery pins (when CMs turn the pin backwards so you only see it when you choose to trade for it.) I ended up getting the "no dancing" pin through one and it's one of my favourite pins ever!

I have a mild addiction to the Innoventions Plaza Area Loop. I could sit and listen to that music for an hour and not get tired of it.

It's especially nice because Epcot is giving me less and less to be happy about as the years go on.

I was about to say the same thing! I'll stop in my tracks if I hear the music and sit on a wall or bench to listen to my favourite parts. It makes me feel like I'm really home!

I love watching the rockin' roller coaster cars launch as you get in the gated queue.

I like the Electric Umbrella. Not for the food... I just love the name and style.

I love the smell and the colors of Disney, whether it's in the resorts, or in any park, or in any store. It makes me excited and happy. I also love to sit outside along the BWI & listen to the boat horn and people watch. I find it relaxing. Oooo, and the best - "Welcome Home!" greeting, ahhh, it really is like coming home. :cloud9:

Sorry, you're not alone on this one. I could stand there and sniff that all day long.

Someone posted this link which is the audio / music on the bus from POFQ to the MK and back. I LOVE IT! Wish I could remember the poster and thank them:-) I have saved this link and now listen to it at home. It reminds me of our POFQ vacations (our favourite resort). This is weird to listen to by myself at home, but another POFQ fan might like it :rotfl:

I'm loving all of these! And I've got another one:

  • Stainless steel gates at the monorail platform at MK - they are generic, but when the doors open and I see those gates, I know I'm home!

  • when i hear the instrumental of "meet me in st. louis" when walking down main street usa at RD.
  • singing along on carousel of progress whether anyone else does or not (my niece is embarrassed by me and my sister for doing it lol)
  • playing the "simon" type game in the figment play area
  • when the gone with the wind theme song and famous scene of rhett carrying scarlett up the stairs comes on the screen in the montage at the end of GMR
  • the rare time on TOT that people are actually quiet so you can hear the narration
  • the smell on splash mountain and the monorail. its this kind of musty/humid air conditioner smell and i LOVE it!
  • when people ask me where in disney world i got my mickey mouse and figment "temporary" tattoos and then the shock when i tell them they are real. (once this lady actually got annoyed with me because she thought i was lying and her daughter wanted the figment one. i had to actually let her feel my leg before she would believe me that it was in fact real)

The sound of bullfrogs at night outside my door at POR.

The first time I hear "dead men tell no tales" at potc.

And everybody's favorite "it's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of everyday."

That crash splash sound that Splash makes! There's a distinct whomp sound when it starts the drop and it "feels like disney" to me!!!

I for some reason don't think I gain a pound eating in Disney (oh I do) but while I'm there I'm free to eat popcorn, mickey bars, fries from Casey's with melted fake cheese on them, fried dough, oh the list is endless! I eat like I'm not going to pay for it when I get home!

I love the countries in Epcot. I know that's super generic on this thread but I'm so corny in Mexico! I love walking into that building! I love the mini train in Germany too! DD and I kept shouting each time we'd see it with people just staring at us!
