I don't know if this has been asked before, and I couldn't find it with a search, but what is DHS's weenie now?

Magic Kingdom of course has Cinderella Castle while Epcot has Spaceship Earth. The Animal Kingdom has the Tree of Life, but what about DHS? I know it used to be the Earful Tower, then the Sorcerer's Hat kind of took that spot over. Then when the Hat went away I'm assuming the Earful Tower become the weenie again. But now that it's gone as well... What is it? Is it Grauman's Chinese theater? Or is there not one at this time?

Ugh. Both terrible weenies, IMO. I still miss the hat, but then I got used to the water tower and it kind of grew on me…

I'm holding out for a huge Death Star or Millennium Falcon :p:p:p

The park icons have been called weenies by the Disney company since Walt himself, who coined it. The term is literally in every book about the theme parks I've ever read and is mentioned specifically in the KTTK tour.

If you say so. I've been on the KTTK tour and don't remember that tidbit of information. I may have read one guidebook when we first went, but don't remember that either. It's such an odd term, I think I would have remembered it!

Michael Bowling mentioned it a few times in relation to the difference between Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella's Castle. Something along the lines that Cindy's needed to be bigger because the park needed a bigger weenie to draw people in. It was on one of the more recent cross-over shows before the 60th last summer. Maybe for the Disneyland 7in7 edition.

When DHS first opened, the main visual icon at the end of the main thoroughfare meant to draw you into the park was the Chinese theater. The Earful Tower was another visual icon, but the original "weenie" was the theater.

I have to say, I saw the title of this thread and went "what?"

Never seen the park icons called THAT before. :)
Walt Disney himself coined the term. This quote shows up all over Disney history:
“What you need is a weenie, which says to people ‘come this way.’ People won’t go down a long corridor unless there’s something promising at the end. You have to have something the beckons them to ‘walk this way."
Some sources say the term comes from when Walt would arrive home after work he would sometimes grab a weenie from the refrigerator, and his dog would follow him around with the food. This is how he got the idea of creating a "weenie" to lead visitors in certain directions.
It's now a term commonly used by designers and marketers.
