I know dumb question right? But I really don't have a clue. I hear so many people talking about it, but still don't really know what it is. :confused3

Is it just a site where you have a page that your friends can go to that has pictures or whatever you want on it? I was thinking of doing it because some of my friends and family do.

Any help is appreciated! :goodvibes

go here:

www.facebook.com

and check it out. it's highly addictive. i have a personal page and what's called a "fan page" for my work. it's a great marketing tool. we also used it to gather folks for our 20 year high school reunion, and it worked out great. we had a much higher attendance than for our 10 year. you'll know so many people. and you'll find so many people that you may or may not have wanted to forget about. lol

Facebook is a global social networking website. Users can add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. Additionally, users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, and region.

I like Facebook because I can see what friends and family are up to. I post hundreds of pictures of my son so my family can check them out and I love checking out pictures too.

But yeah, basically it is a page and you fill it out about you, add pictures, etc. You have a "Wall" that your friends and family can post on.

Do it! ;-)

Big time waster! LOL!

But I love it!

Is there a way to check it out before you sign up? I guess that's what I'd like to do, see exactly what it is before I sign up.

No, but if you don't like it you can deactivate your account anytime.

FACEBOOK is evil :rotfl:

Trust me, if you join you will get sucked into farming, cooking and more word games than you can handle.

DONT DO IT!!!

i never play any of the games. i don't get them or understand them, but mostly b/c i've never tried.

You have your "wall" page. This means that anything you post be it a brief status statement (ex -- "I'm heading out the door to the U2 concert!") or when someone posts something directly to you it will show up on your wall. You can also post photos (and photo albums), and video clips on your wall page. You can post links to youtube videos and other websites that you want your friends to see.

Then there's the news feed page. This is where all of the status updates that your friends post appear. You can read the news feed whenever you want and you can reply to what your friends post. So, if your friend posted that she was on her way to the U2 concert, you could post a reply that says, "Have a great time!" That reply post shows up right underneath the original status post.

Then there are little surveys that you can try (ie -- "How Nerdy is Your Name?") and other various things like that. There are also many games. I don't ever play the games. Heaven knows I spend way too much time on the computer as it is. If I started playing those games I'd never do anything else, so I don't even go there.

Personally, I think Facebook is the best invention and I am far from being a 20 something. I have been able to locate people that I lost over 20 years ago. My DD at this rate, will never lose track of all of her friends. No I don't play all the games that are available or send "presents" to people I know. But, it is fun to see the children and grandchildren of people that I lost track of -- to see how they have grown up.

I found my best friend from 20 years ago on Facebook. 20 years of no contact and a few months of phone calls later, he's still my best friend. We talk on the phone 1-3 hours a day, every single day since we found each other again. I've given up tv and reading since all my leisure time is spent on the phone now. The only reason we lost touch was we were both in the military in a time before cell phones and we slacked off on the letter writing after we got stationed separately.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Between Sorority Life and Bejeweled Blitz, I have wasted gobs of time.

I know. I tell DH I have to hurry home when we are out because I need to deposit my paycheck in the bank before someone beats me up and takes my money. And I also need to get my pizza's off the stove and then hire someone to harvest my crops. :rotfl:

I'm 52 and I have a Facebook page. I love it!

I don't do any of the games like farming, cooking, etc.

But it's a great way to keep in touch with family and friends. My son just started a new truck-driving career in September, and it's wonderful to keep up with him via Facebook. He tells where he's at, where he's going, what he's hauling, and posts pictures. I love it. DD lives just down the road but we "talk" on Facebook almost daily.

My Mom is 72 and she even has a Facebook page! :D

Thanks for all the responses everyone! Sounds kind of neat. I'm 44 and a little behind on the times! :sad2:
How do people you've known from years ago, find you on Facebook? Just by searching? :confused3
I think I will try it one of these days! :goodvibes I had 2 people today mention it again! :rolleyes1

Facebook searched my email address book and showed me everyone from there that had an account.
When you set up an account, you can add what school you went to and when you graduated. You can click on that year and see others from your class on Facebook. I was amazed at how many old friends I reconnected with that way. You can also just search for people.

I'm 40 and just discovered Facebook a few weeks ago!! I LOVE IT! Don't play any of the games, but I LOVE the quizzes I come across and I did discover a gaming site because of them. And as many of said, a GREAT waste of time! :thumbsup2

I'm 44 and just started with it. Most of my friends are family..but I have 2 farms, an island and a fish tank. The cleaning and dusting can wait til later, right?

This is why I am not on Facebook. The idea that it could search my e-mail address book creeps me out!
