"So what do you want to do next?" An April '10 TR...final thoughts 8/2 p. 63

Good morning DIS friends!!! TGIF. :thumbsup2

Another random update. I was just reading my sister's Twitter and she mentioned something about a Brewers Mickey. As soon as I saw that I was like WHAT?! Two of my favorite things! So I went to do some exploring and this is what she was talking about:

You might be wondering why they'd have such a thing. Well, the All Star Game this year is in Anaheim (not too far from Disneyland!!!) so they made these as a collectible for all of the teams. We are going to the game this weekend and she said she's going to see if they have it. haha! Kind of cool.

Hope to have another real update done after school!

I think I need to have this! Let me know if it's there. :)

Love that Brewer's Mickey. My DH actually showed me the Nationals Mickey a couple of days ago. I was planning on ordering one so thanks for reminding me:)

haha, I think I need to have it too! We will definitely be looking for it Sat.

Cool! Did you order it yet?

Okay, that Brewers Mickey is really cool. Must go investigate :surfweb:

I know, isn't it cute?

That Brewer's Mickey is awesome.... my one minor complaint: Mickey's eyes look like they are sewn on with the ball stitching. :scared:

A little off topic here.... I think I saw something recently that said the Lion King Musical was headed your way. Have you heard anything?

LOL!

Hmmm, I haven't seen anything about that. It was here a couple years ago and we went to see it. Such a great show! I will have to do some research and see if it's coming again.

ETA: OK, just looked it up. The Lion King will be starting in Madison (about an hour and a half west of here) and showing through the end of May. It'll be in Chicago later this year but no stops in Milwaukee.

LOL, the termite mound! What kind of camera do you have? I know they suggest using sport mode if you have it. I think I still just use auto and have been lucky enough to get a few decent ones but I know I've missed some great shots too.:mad::mad:

We have just seen people do WEIRD stuff in WDW sometimes. Like there was one time too when we went on Tower of Terror and this dude got on the elevator with his popsicle and the CM was waiting for him to finish. When he did he gave the CM the stick. What the heck?!
I have a Nikon Coolpix...I don't know what the number is. It's like 4 or 5 years old. I really need to get a new one before my July trip.

And that popsicle story is making me laugh so hard. How did the CM react when the guy handed him the stick? If that was me, I would have given Mr. Popsicle Man quite the "Are you kidding?" face.

Also, I love that Brewers Mickey! I wonder if they have one for my Indians...I'll have to look.

Yes, there is one for each of the MLB teams. They are short (7") versions of larger statues that will be placed in various areas around Anaheim to promote the All Star Game events. Those statues look similar to the ones that were displayed around WDW a few years ago.

Really excited about the baseball themed Mickey's, I did not see them in the team shop at the park. I did look at the WI license plates last night, can't decide between the Brewer retro or current look though. I have a dark gray car, what do you think?:confused3

It was fun running into you last night in the parking lot before the game. I'm sure you were surprised too. I can't figure out how to add a picture to my posts, so I'm sure you had no idea who I was.:rotfl: Hope you had fun at the game, despite the loss.

I have a Kodak Z710 or something and I really like it. It's a little bit bigger but it has a 10x zoom and 7 megapixels. For the most part it takes really good pictures but sometimes I feel like I need a class to figure out how to use the settings, mostly for nighttime pictures.

LOL, the CM pretty much reacted like you would have! He just looked really confused, as was I.

We looked in the stores too and didn't see them. While I was looking at some other stuff I guess Dad asked about them and they must've thought he was nuts or something because they had NO idea what he was talking about. They just said "we should be getting them in soon." LOL! As for the license plates I lately really like the retro logo. :thumbsup2

I was just going to say something about that, it was nice meeting you too! I was a little surprised but it was a good surprised. :thumbsup2 So funny we were getting there at the same time. It stinks that they lost but atleast the Cubs didn't hit a homerun on the first pitch like they did last year when we went. :rotfl: Are you going today too? The next game we have tickets for isn't until the end of May I think.

I looked up the information about the Baseball Mickey's. It looks like the team shop should be getting them some time before the game. I will be interested in finding the large Brewers one when we go to CA in July. I know my DH and DS looked around NY for the Brewer Statue of Liberty when they went to the 2008 All Star game. (not sure if that should be in caps?) I don't think they ever found it.:confused3

Re the license plate. My DH likes the retro look too, but I will see what the DMV has when I go in next week. No vanity plate, just regular number/letters for me.

I am not going to the game today, so maybe they will win.:) I will probably watch it though. Not sure when I am going back to a game. My DH tries to get tickets to at least one game a series. Maybe we will run into each other again some time?

I'll have to look into that one. I know, like, next to nothing about cameras, so thankfully I have a few months to figure out which one I should buy. I thought about asking my dad since he's all into technology, but then I'd have to sit through a 4 hour presentation about the merits of each camera. And I really don't want to do that.

I saw some article that said they should be coming to stadium stores "later this month." So maybe they'll have them by the next time we go to a game? Otherwise I might just have to order one on mlb.com. hehe If you do find the Brewers Mickey in CA you will have to take a picture of it!

All of the games we go to are on the weekend with our plan so I'm sure we'll cross paths again. Let me know when you do go!

haha, yeah, I didn't spend too much time deciding. All I knew was that I wanted one with a bigger zoom. Maybe someday I will break down and get an SLR. Then I would definitely have to take a class on how to use it!

Welcome! Thanks for reading!

Hi again everyone! Hope you all had a good weekend. Is it really already Sunday? Why do the weekends always go so fast? Last night my dad, sisters and I went to the Brewers game and I met another DISer! I ran into jwwi in the parking lot and she introduced herself to me. It was just kind of a coincidence we were getting there at the same time but pretty cool! Yay for a DIS meet (even if it was brief!)!

I've been kind of slacking the last couple days so I guess it's time for another update...

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 cont’d (part 5)

After doing some exploring in Africa, we decided to make our way over to Asia. One of the things that I wanted to do this trip was check out the Flights of Wonder bird show since it is one of the few things we have never done. I know that some other family members would probably have no interest in seeing it so it was the perfect time to do it. When we got to the theater the show had already started but we were still able to go in. So we missed the very beginning. Darn. The show itself was pretty cool. It featured…well, a lot of birds (what else would it be? Haha!). The first bird we saw was a little parrot (or cockatoo? I feel so stupid not knowing what this one is). The CM would have it do a bunch of different “tricks” such as talking and nodding its head. There was one thing it did that was pretty funny. The bird and the CM would kind of have a staredown. So funny. One thing I found pretty interesting was that the CM said the birds don’t understand the words so they basically follow various visual cues, like pointing a finger or something, to do the “trick”.

One of the other birds we got to meet was JJ, a great horned owl. He was going to show off how low to the ground he could fly. The CM asked for a few audience volunteers with video cameras and regular cameras to come up on stage because they were going to get a really cool picture. No, I didn’t volunteer. I don’t know how I’d react if a huge bird came flying at me. YIKES! I took a short video of JJ…he was a little stubborn at first and didn’t want to fly but then he took off literally right over the audience’s heads. I even heard one little girl claiming he touched her head. hehe

And so I don’t spoil the entire show, just a couple more pictures of some of the birds:

See how he's holding a toy lizard? He would smack it against the rocks which is how they apparently kill their prey and they were also saying it acts like a meat tenderizer!

I believe this is an East African crowned crane.

I think one of the most impressive birds, and definitely a crowd pleaser, was the bald eagle. They also mentioned how the bald eagle is a great success story because it has been taken off the endangered species list. Yay!

Overall it was a really entertaining and educational show with a little bit of humor mixed in.

Continuing on our way through Asia, we of course had to stop by Expedition Everest to see what the wait was, and if there was any chance we could get on it. I don’t remember what the exact wait was but it wasn’t bad—somewhere around 30 minutes or so? Dad suggested we try the single rider line though. There were only 2 or 3 people ahead of us and then we were able to board! I don’t think we could have had a shorter wait. AWESOME! First day and we already had two headliners done. :)

Hoping we could continue our string of good luck, we made our way over to Dinoland USA for Dinosaur. When we’ve gone to the AK in the afternoon on past trips, it’s usually pretty easy to get on. The wait was listed at 10 minutes but we pretty much walked right into the preshow area. Things were looking pretty good. Or so we thought. Right as we were about to go to the loading area we got held up a little bit because they were having technical problems. Boo! One of the CMs told people they could sit on the floor if they wanted to while we waited and then they just started asking where people were. When we told her we were from Wisconsin she asked if we were cheeseheads. I guess that is what everyone thinks of when they hear Wisconsin! LOL. After a few minutes they let us out of the preshow area into the hallway where we ended up waiting a few more minutes. The same CM came back and told us that the ride broke down again. Well, since it was our first day and I knew we’d be coming to the Animal Kingdom again, I told Dad I didn’t want to wait. It was kind of a bummer but hey, what can you do?

So instead we decided to go grab some dinner from the Flame Tree Barbecue. I ended up getting a turkey sandwich and Dad got some ribs. We found a table out in their little sitting area which had some unique views of the park that I had never seen before. There was a little fountain and then a view of Expedition Everest out in the distance.

While we ate we of course had some little bird friends joining us. I swear, those Disney birds are not afraid of anything! It actually kind of freaks me out. They will just walk right up to your feet hoping you will drop something on the ground for them to eat. I usually start talking to them and telling them I’m not giving them any food and to go away like they are going to listen to me. Now you are all probably thinking I am nuts for talking to birds. But it bothers me how some people feed them even though you are not supposed to! I’m sorry, but I don’t really want to have birds walking underneath my chair the whole time I’m eating. Maybe that’s just me.

Anyways…after eating we started making our way towards the exit. It had already been a long day and we didn’t want to burn ourselves out right away.

Notice the lack of crowds by this point...

I think we stopped in one of the stores to look for a pin my sister wanted and then headed back to Kidani.

When we got back a few of our “neighbors” were outside on the savannah. Yay!

Then we settled in for the night and because it was a Tuesday, we had to watch American Idol!

Up next: EARLY extra magic hours at the Magic Kingdom!!!

I liked the fact about the bird smacking the lizard to tenderize the meat!

Ooo, the shot of Expedition Everest is great because the trees and foliage frame it just right!

AK will be Weird and my list when we go for our future Disneymoon. I'm sure it'll be much more fun exploring it with him at our own pace!

What a bummer about Dinosaur. It's one of my favorites. I hope you get to ride it at some point in your trip!

I have never see Flights of Wonder. It seems cool, I'll have to try to fit it in!

Great update! Flights of wonder seems cool...I might brave it. Birds in general don't bother me but I'm not a fan of owls. They kinda freak me out with the whole turning of the head thing and their big eyes! LOL!:rotfl:

You got a great picture of Everest! That was smart to do the single rider line.

I know just how EARLY those EMH at MK were! Can't wait to read more!!:goodvibes

My mom saw the Flights of Wonder show last trip and said it was really neat. I'm not a big fan of birds, but I've heard such great things that I'll give it a try! That's great that your wait for Everest was so short. I will probably use the single rider line myself because my mom doesn't ride roller coasters. That's too bad about Dinosaur but I HATE that ride. I just can't deal with it-too much going on and I don't like things jumping out at me/loud noises. I'm really excited to try Flame Tree, but I'm not looking forward to being pestered by the wildlife. We don't watch Idol, but we do watch GLEE. The first Tuesday we're there we should be able to catch it because we have dinner at Ohana at 5, then we want to look around the Grand Floridian, and we should be back in time. The second Tuesday won't work because we'll be watching Fantasmic! at the same time.

Oooh morning extra magic hours-something we avoid like the plague. :rotfl:
