Normally I drink caff free diet pepsi. I love it. I drink approximately one to two 16 ounce bottles a day, usually one. I sip on it all day. I also have my decaf coffee in the morning, 2 cups. Other than that I don't drink anything else.

So today a friend of mine was telling me all the horrors of aspartame and what it can cause. She gave me some good websites to look at and now im thinking maybe I would be better off without my diet pepsi. Im going to be getting a lap-band in the coming months (if insurance approves) and I will have to give up the carbonation then anyway, so might as well do it now.

So besides water, what else is there to drink? I need some ideas, preferrably ones that don't carry a lot of calories but no aspartame. What about vitamin water is that any good?

Look up aspartame on Snopes.com. I think you'll find that most of the information out there on the evils of aspartame are false and that there is no proof that it causes medical issues.

Check out Snopes.com on the topic of aspartame. Not to belittle your friend, but most of those websites are from conspiracy nuts.

The only provable bad thing about aspartame is that it is a vasodilator. This is good for some medical conditions. If you are headache prone, however (And I am) this is v. v. bad. However, there are lots of foods that are vasodilators, aged cheeses and meats, for example, and those foods are not bad in general, just bad for someone who is prone to headaches.

Now as to the supposed link between ALL artificial sweetners and obesity. Jury's still out on that one. I think there's a correlation in there somewhere, but I v. much doubt a direct causation. ;)

I also believe that aspertame (and a lot of artificial sweeteners) are very bad for you. I avoid it and won't let my kids ingest it. Each time I was pregnant the doctor told me not to ingest it----why would they say that if there is nothing wrong with it? I have researched it and I believe it is bad for you. Just one of the symptoms I get is migraines---every time I ingest something with aspertame/Nutrasweet, etc...

Stevia is safe and natural---you can get that at a health food store to use as a natural sweetener. Maybe you can google some recipes that use Stevia. Good luck with your surgery, and finding aternative drinks.

I wish your friend would just SHUT HER YAPPER!! jk...but try diet green tea (turkey hill) that stuff is AWESOME...also aquafina flavor splash water--citris blend is my favorite

You know I do get a lot of headaches. Sometimes bad migraines. Ive never connected the 2, just always thought it was from something else.

Is the flavor splash water anything like the flavored Dasani waters? I tried them and couldnt drink them. I dont like Aquafina either. Where do you find the turkey hill diet green tea? is that refridgerated or on the shelf?

I drink a lot of diet 7-up, and about a year or so ago they switched from Splenda to aspartame, claiming that in a study people preferred the taste. I don't notice much of a difference. The 7-up Plus drinks continue to use only Splenda.

I only drink TAB... I'm not kidding!

That's all my aunt drinks too. I guess you tote your Tab to parties like she does.

I drink Diet Pepsi. Usually one can a day. I try to make it last through lunch and then I'll have water for the rest of the day. It's been a hard day today so I am now on a bottle of Diet Coke. Of course I wish it was a wee bit stronger..:drinking1

I love water, and drink tons of it. I also like seltzer, and sometimes put in a splash of juice. Unsweetened iced tea is also one of my favorites. Vitamin water has empty calories.

I avoid all artificial sweetners, including HFCS. I rarely drink soda and if I do, it's a full sugar full caffine Coke LOL. I try to eat more natural, KWIM? My kid don't get any artificial sweetners either, they don't drink soda unless we are out to eat and I order my once-in-a-while soda, I let them have a few sips. That way the "mystery" of soda isn't so great LOL.

I'm pregnant, which has really increased my awareness of what I put in my mouth/body. I drink water (sometimes w/slices of fresh lemon), iced green tea I brew at home (with a little bit of Maui cane sugar added and a few lemons) or any other flavored iced tea that I brew at home. Oh and OJ w/calcium...love my vit C and need the calcium. It does have lots of sugar but it's not artifical sugar in it.

Read the labels on some of those "vitamin water" type drinks...the sugar can be SKY HIGH (added calories!!) plus other chemicals, etc.

I drink Diet Coke. Period. As in that is ALL I drink ALL day. OK, occasionally I will have a bottle of water, or a small glass of juice or milk. I have two cans of DC before I leave the house in the morning. :lmao: I would guess the minimum I drink in a day is six cans - usually more.

I am 40 - if aspartame was going to kill me, I am very confident it would have done it already!

Aspartame is a known migraine trigger. I would bet your true migraines will lessen when you stop ingesting it but you may get a few headaches from caffeine withdrawal until your body adjusts.

I drink unsweet tea with lemon, bottled or filtered water, OJ and usually 1 Pepsi (non-diet with caffeine) a day.

Most flavored waters have artificial sweetners so be wary of those or you will just trade 1 migraine trigger for another.

WATER!!!! I love plain water or water with lemon.. Sometimes, when i'm in the mood I use a crytal light flavor to them..

The other thing Cranberry juice mixed with some other fruit.. I hate cranberry alone, but cran apple, white grape cran, cran peach.. yummmm

Folger's Coffee (Half Caf); Boost; Water; Whole Milk (per my doctors orders); Eggnog (when it's available); V8.. Once in awhile I can sneak in some orange juice as long as I have something to eat with it - otherwise it chews up my stomach.. :(

No soda for me (the carbonation gives me migraines) and I don't drink alcoholic beverages.. :)

In the morning I have one or two cups of coffee.

Throughout the day I drink water, seltzer and herb tea.

At night I drink light beer or wine spritzers.

This is my everyday routine. :)

Wanted to say I absolutely love the Alan Jackson song you have quoted in your signature. I watch the video on You Tube often :lovestruc

Pepsi, until Topamax killed it for me!!! Tava, LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff!!! Water, all day, and coffee all day.

As for non carbonated beverages, I would say gatorade is my favorite. I usually grab a bottle or two if I have a ton of errands to run and I know I won't get a lunch.
