I know this is an American Custom, but I'm curious as to just what you all do to celebrate this event. I know you cook a turkey & have pumpkin pie, but do you decorate the house or yard or anything??

Some people do decorate, but personally, I dont. My mother has Mickey & Minnie dressed as pilgrims in her bay window.

Our Thanksgiving starts out with us getting up and watching the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade. DH & I then drop the kids off at My parents house and meet some friends for drinks at an upscale restaurant. This has become a yearly reunion of sorts. Then we head back to my parents house for some munchies then a turkey dinner with all the fixings, and also raviolis(you need at least one Italian dish to go along with the meal;) ). We usually have a few varieties of pie for dessert. Then we all waddle home, to eat left overs for days, and look forward to the weekend when my mother will be making her awesome turkey soup. ;)

So, I take it then that Thanksgiving is a holiday over there then. Forgive me for being so dumb, but I'm an Aussie & we don't celebrate Thanksgiving over here & I'm interested in how you guys celebrate & just what you do:)

Most kids, I think, have Thanksgiving Day (Thursday) and also Friday off from school. The day after Thanksgiving is a BIG Christmas shopping day.

We didn't decorate the house much when I was a kid, but we did dress up and then go to my aunt's house for dinner. It was a big event, getting all the cousins together. We had your basic turkey dinner.

Now that I've got my own kids, we do decorate the house...some of the decorations are leftover from Halloween, altho they are not Halloween decorations...things like autumn leaf swags and orange lights around the baker's rack. Just a few other decorations specifically for Thanksgiving (altho the dog ate a few this year  ).

Three years ago, we started going to Florida on Thanksgiving Day, eating a nice meal and spending a few days at Universal, then on to DisneyWorld, so we've lost some of that special, traditional Thanksgiving Day celebration time...but we're dealing with it. :teeth:

My mom still hosts a family dinner.....she's a vibrant 80-years old this year.......and she still doesn't allow me to do much other than help serve and wash dishes.

Last year we started a new tradition.....our own family football game......this year we've even got special t-shirts with nick names and numbers...keep your fingers crossed that nobody (meaning klutzy me) gets hurt!!

We do what we Americans seem to do best on Thanksgiving Day: EAT! ;) :p

We say thanks to God or Mother Nature or ourselves for being so clever...
Oh and then there are the football games...

Sorry my post is a bit:rolleyes: or :p I'm in a mood.:o

I decorate with fall leaves, a beanie baby turkey and a ceramic turkey that was my grandmothers. We watch the parade and lots of football.

My kids are always out of school Wednesday through Friday, so they have a nice break. We go to my in-laws on Thursday and usually to my mother's house on Friday. We eat until we almost burst, while we visit with extended family.

It's also the date that we finally drag out all the Christmas music and start to get in the mood for the holidays.

Do you ever get tired of putting up & taking down decorations? Like you have Halloween, followed by Thanksgiving & then there is Christmas!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Then all the food.................you guys must reall be so sick of food by the time Christmas comes around;)

Do you freeze any Thanksgiving leftovers for Christmas;)

That's why everyone diets in January :teeth: The ads all turn to exercise equipment :)

I like taking down and putting up decorations....preferably with help.... especially the Christmas ones.

I freeze food ...especailly this year since we will leave a few days after TG....and I freeze enough cookies to last months.

We're sick and fatter by the time Christmas comes around!
We usually go to the movies on Thanksgiving day after the big meal. We pick a movie that everyone can enjoy.

Nutsy, there are always lots of responses to a question like this! The family football game is popular. We also put everyone's name in a hat & pick one out to buy just one gift for Christmas - gets us started for Christmas shopping! (we still buy for all the kids though.) Although Thanksgiving is an important holiday, the next day is the big kick-off for Christmas shopping.

I am SO bored with Thanksgiving. I can't stand sitting around waiting to eat (the same old) dinner, just to clean up and sit around some more waiting for (the same old) dessert so we can go home! I think we are going to go to a movie before we go to my sister-in-law's house just so we have something to do! I just get SO bored! And of course knowing that my parents and my brother are in Cancun sipping margaritas on the beach doesn't help!:o

I usually work! I get time and half for Thanksgiving and Day-after Thanksgiving. Then, I use the money for Christmas!

We have a big party at work and eat all night!:D

I actually love the thought of Thanksgiving. As much as I try to realize my blessing every single day, having a day set aside for it is helpful. :) BUT, what I don't like about Thanksgiving is that there is only one day to celebrate and everyone wants you in too many places at once. In laws, outlaws etc...
I dream of eating Thanksgiving at the LLT in MK. :)

We're celebrating Thanksgiving in a big way this year! We leave turkey day for our MAGICal cruise to the Eastern Carib!!
On our way to spend the 1st night at the airport hotel we are stopping at Wright's Chicken Farm (all you can eat, family style).

My DH is in Kuwait with the US Army I am our four sons are going to WDW for Thanksgiving. We thought it would easier than having Thanksgiving at home with no Daddy.
