I was on vacation gasp not at disney. And of course while in line disney comes up with a stranger and she shared. We are thinking about going to disney this Thanksgiving. In my mind "what! , how, where would you stay? That books up immediately". But I refrained and decided not staying DVC and let the conversation roll on. They have young twin girls and last visit was 2008.

Oh my! Are they in for a rude awakening. Well, they may be able to book a regular hotel room on cash but if they haven't visited since 2008.......fast passes, FP+, MagicBands, MDE and hard to get ADRs will just blow their minds.

*Sigh*, I wish it would go back to the way it was in 2008. While I don't mind booking at 11 months I am frankly sick and tired of all excessive planning needed to go on these trips. I'm so glad we are DVC and go often enough that we don't "have" to do anything in particular and if we miss something we will hit it next time.

Maybe 10-12 years ago I had a coworker who was planning on taking grandkids to Disney. She'd mentioned it but we really hadn't talked about it. About 4:30 on Friday I asked if this was the weekend they were going and she said yes, that they'd planned on going Friday night but pushed it back to Saturday for 2 nights. I asked where they were staying and she said they hadn't yet reserved. Of course inside I'm freaking but I just walked away and simply called CRO and asked if they had anything for that night with a FL resident discount. They did, $69 at French Quarter. So I just walked back to this person and told her what they had and handed her the phone when she said she wanted it.

When they arrived, they were chatting with the FD clerk about favorite characters, birthday trip and the like. When they got back from the park the next day there were autographed and framed pictures of their favorite characters in the room. The next day, departure, she'd planned to leave at checkout but couldn't get them out of the pool for about 2.5 more hrs. We were down a few weeks later and stayed overnight at Riverside to I walked over and talked to the manger at FQ. Knowing they had a staff incentive program, I relayed the story and how the staff had really made a big impression and created a stay of a lifetime for this grandmother and grandchildren. He was able to pull up the reservation and said the applicable CM's would be rewarded and recognized.

Where's my "like" button? How nice.

I have a coworker who plans to take her kids this Christmas. Hasn't done a lick of planning. I'm on her like the squirrels on my bird feeder about it but she just wants to wing it. At Christmas. Her best question, "How many people DO that for Christmas? Aren't they home?" Can't wait to hear those stories. Yikes!!

Me too!!

My neighbor went with her daughter and 3 grandkids a couple of years ago. Stayed at an All-Star resort and had the QS dining plan (they bought it, no "free"-dining). They had a great time with virtually no planning. It can be done. But we have been there, done that and have moved on with our Disney experience and know too much. We are now back to winging it and it feels good.

I just feel bad for people going in clueless and not getting to do half of what we used to be able to do in half the time. But they will be creating their own magic. Hope they have a great time!

But if they haven't been there in a while, they probably are happy seeing what is available and don't know any difference. Since we go more often now, I'm not as picky getting up and crashing into the parks...and we no longer close the parks down. Hummm sounds like I'm getting old :confused3.

But I am disappointed that MK is only available three nights out of our nine night stay in December due to the MVVCP, which we are not doing this year. :worried: and two of the nights it's scheduled to close at 10, and the other has late hours, but it's a Saturday night and the natives will be out in droves :santa:

I do love MK at night at Christmas time

They could get rooms for cash, stay off site. There are plenty of cash rooms available and with discount. They do have almost 4 months left, so they haven't even missed their 60 day mark for Fastpass+.

Honestly I don't see the panic here. So they don't get to book BOG, they eat somewhere else and have a great time. Actually at 12:30 on Thanksgiving day, there were 39 open places to make an ADR.

As to booking Fastpass+, MDE, it is not rocket science to do this. It really is not as hard as some make it out to be.

Not everything has to be planned either. Just as some under plan, some over plan. Plus planning a non DVC booking is very different from cash.

What I have to say to both planners and non-planners:
Whoever pays the piper calls the music.
:rockband: :charac2: :mic: :music:

Let people be who they are and go the way they want. Everyone has different tastes and can choose for themselves. Some will learn and change and some will stay the same.
