Okay it is official We are leaving for our first trip soon! We have no idea what we are doing as we have never been please help!

So myslef, DH, DD(12), DS (14), DD (4) and DS (9). So I would like to stay to somewhat of a budget. I am going knowing that I won't see everything but It would be fun to do as much as I could.

We will be there December 19-27. I could only get a room offsite at this point. I did get an Adr at Chef Mickey's at 10:40 on the 21st. I haven't bought tickets as I am not sure if I should hop or not. I am not sure what to bring or do.... What are the most haves if you were me.

Please help me plan out my trip so I can get as much out of it as possible.

Thanks!
Holly

If you'd like, email me at hddanis@msn.com and I'll send you my interactive planning spreadsheet. It will help get you started!

Also, I highly recommend the Passporter Guidebook. It's a tremendous help!

Not sure if Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is still going on. If it is, it is a separate ticket event and we have always enjoyed it.

Keep in mind that the parks will be crowded this time of year and lines will be longer. You probably won't be able to do it all, for sure.

A couple ideas of "free things" is to resort hop and see the Christmas decorations at each resort. Doesn't cost anything and it is beautiful. GF usually has some Christmas entertainment going on in their lobby. The deluxe resorts usually have things made out of "food" such as GF has Gingerbread House that is huge - it serves as a "shop" that they sell treats from .... have seen displays at YC/BC, Boardwalk, Animal Kingdom, GF, WL and these are worth seeing.

Plan out what rides are "must dos" and then go for those. You might want to split up with the ages of your kids. Your older kids are not going to be interested in the same rides as younger kids. So you might want to do a divide and conquer strategy ... meeting up with each other at certain times.

Congratulations on planning your first trip to Disney - and I'm sure it won't be the last!!!

I would also recommend Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, if its still going on while you're there. We've been every year since 2000, and we LOVE it! Last year at the party, we rode all the rides, some of them several times, all before 10:00 pm!! My DD loves to have a cookie and some hot chocolate while we watch the Christmas parade!

For our last few trips, we have not been hopping. We usually go to the park in the morning, so back to the hotel around 1:00 or so for a rest, then go back to the same park in the evening. Sorta finish up where you left off. Its worked fine for us!

I have a large age gap between my girls - and usually the first few days of the vacation, we'll all stick together. Then, DH will go off with the older girls, or sometimes the older girls would go off together, then we all meet up for lunch and share stories of what we've done and see what we've bought!!

Definitely set aside some time to see all the resorts decorated for Christmas! The Grand Floridian is a "must see" - that tree is gorgeous!!

Just take your time, and enjoy! Have a great trip!!!!!!!

Your whole family will have a magical Christmas trip!! Here is some info:

* The parks will get progressively busier as it gets closer to Christmas and the week after (through the new year). I would consider the hoppers for crowd management. If the park you are in gets busy, hop to a different park - Epcot seems to handle crowds well, so we usually hop there in the afternoon. Also, since you are staying off-site, you could get "locked out" if parks fill to capacity. I think MK is a great park to hit in the morning at rope drop (roll those teens out of bed!!) and if it gets busy, Epcot and Disney Studios are great to hop to. Overall, anticipate that Magic Kingdom will be the most busy, so hoppers allow you to tour there many days and hop to another park when the crowds make you crazy.

* Pack some snack/breakfast items in a suitcase, or ship a box of non-perishables to your resort -- you could even include a small Christmas tree to make it extra festive. If you have a car (which is a good idea so you are not at the mercy of resort shuttles for your transport) you can also make a grocery stop. I ALWAYS carry a little cooler bag of drinks and snacks into the parks so they are on hand for the little ones.

* Definately pack for warm and cool weather. Last year was awesomely warm, but I would plan for everything. Even rain ponchos!

* Don't think your kids won't like Epcot - it is great to explore and the Kidcot funstops around world showcase are awesome. Other must sees are Osborne Lights and all shows at Disney Studios, The Festival of the Lion King and Kilimanjaro Safari at Animal Kingdom, Everything at Magic Kingdom, World Showcase at night at Epcot as well as Test Track and Soaring.

* Consider a special meal on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and make an ADR ASAP! Also, the food court in the Soaring building at Epcot is excellent.

* Be aware of park hours and plan your days accordingly. Park hoppers will help you maximize here. Depending on the hours and crowds, you could lose a lot of park time going back to your resort to take a rest---unless it is warm, then do it and get in some swim time (make sure your resort heats the pool!!). Balance late nights w/some time to sleep in so everyone is not burnt out by day 3.

* Definately read up on the attractions and restaurants in a guidebook ( I like Unofficial Guide - it includes surrounding hotels and restaurants also) to get an understanding of what is available. Increasing your depth of knowledge will help you develop an itinerary for each park and know which rides are appropriate for your family. Discuss the rides and shows with all and get everyones top 2 or 3 for each park so everyone can have the same expectation....or as close to it as possible! Measure your 4 yo so you know what she is tall enough for.

* Some handy things to bring along are: glow sticks, light spinners from the Disney Store, a princess dress, tiara or costume in case the mood strikes,
autograph books (or purchase at the park), extra memory cards for camera.
