So much food...but only gained 2 lbs!! COMPLETED 5/5

DAY 2 - SATURDAY, 3/26-ARRIVAL DAY - CAPTAIN COOK'S AND CHEF MICKEY'S

Finally, a Disney day!!

Breakfast was the included Continental breakfast spread at Country Inn and Suites. Nothing fabulous, but quick and easy and we were on our way. I was happy to have a bowl of Raisin Bran (even though it was early for me to eat), haven't had that in years.

Lunch was at Captain Cook's, approximately noon. I was surprised at how empty the place was given it was prime lunch time, it was filling up when we were leaving. All 6 of us had lunch together here, after our check-in I drove over to CSR to pick up my sister and her boyfriend. So lunch...

Me- Aloha Pork Sandwich with Poly chips, Diet Coke, Chocolate Chip Croissant
DH- Turkey Club with Poly chips, some sort of pop, Dole Whip
DS - Kid's chicken nuggets, applesauce, chocolate pudding, chocolate milk
DD- Kid's cheeseburger, grapes, chocolate chip cookie, chocolate milk
DSis- Kid's grilled cheese, grapes, chocolate chip cookie, don't remember her drink
DSB (Dear Sister's Boyfriend) - Aloha Pork Sandwich with Poly Chips, Pop, Mickey cookies and cream ice cream sandwich

OMG, that pork sandwich is sooooo good!! It's also huge. I hate half and gave DH the other half. He enjoyed the turkey sandwich, but fell in love with the pork!! The slaw and cucumbers really give it a different taste. I always enjoy the Poly chips. The chocolate chip croissant is one of my great food loves at Disney. It's huge, it's moist, it's chocolate-y, melt-in-your-mouth goodness!! I really wish I had a photo to show you. I promise to do better next time!!

DH of course loved his Dole Whip and filled it up high! DSis was not hungry - hence the kids' meal, which she loved, LOL. The kids enjoyed their meals. This was the first time I began thinking that these kids' CS meals may not be enough to fill DS. He's almost 9...he did share some of our chips and he was fine.

OH, DH also bought his refillable mug while we were here. He's a pop drinker, all day, so it was worth it for him. I usually have one pop each day, and one iced tea, and then water the rest of the day. We brought tons of bottled water, so I just got my pop and tea with our meals - no need for a mug.

As I said, CC's was nice and empty when we arrived, started filling up a bit as we finished. The ordering set-up is still the same with the touch screens, and we are very familiar with this.

Dinner that night was at Chef Mickey's!!

We've been here before. The food is good, not fabulous, but good, and it's just a great way to see the characters. We didnt' do any parks this day, so we figured it would be a fun way to kick off the trip - and it was!!
Our ADR was was for 6:35. We arrived around 6:25 to quite a line to check in. We waited just over 10 minutes. We were given a pager and they said it would be about 20 minutes, it was only about 8-10. We did not have our photo taken - we knew we wouldn't buy it!

We were seated at a round table that fit 8, so we had plenty of room. No characters were in the room then, so we started right away with the food. I honestly don't remember what everyone ate, but I know they enjoyed it - no complaints. I do know what I ate:

Chicken and Corn Chowder was the soup of the day and it was delicious!! I had 2 cups of it. Also, just a general salad, Mickey Ravioli, turkey, Parm. Mashed potatoes, broccoli, corn bread. I was disappointed to find that the cream-sauce pasta that I remembered now had seafood in it, which I don't like, so that was off my list. Everything I had was good, not great (other than the soup). For dessert I enjoyed an Oreo Bonbon and some cheesecake I think. The kids of course loved the ice cream bar!!

The characters were great, they came around nicely spaced, took a photo or two and signed the kids' autograph books. This was DSB first trip, so he enjoyed seeing them and took a photo or two. He missed Mickey, though, he was getting food!! No worries though, we caught Mickey the next day for him!! DS is NOT a fan of having his photo taken, so I got a few, but a few he sat out of. He did get all the autographs, though. DD and I participated in the napkin twirling too!!

Here's some photos:

They enjoyed watching the monorail out the window!!

Being a party of 6 for some meals meant that gratuity was automatically added to our bill. DSis and I decided that we'd just pay all of it for some, and they would do a couple. It didn't end up working out that way, but for this meal, we just put all the gratuity on our card - we charged to the room anything that wasn't covered.

We didn't use any snack credits today. After dinner we basically crashed back at our hotel rooms!

Great pics of Chef Mickey! Another place I have never eaten. Were you seated in the area that use to be the Concourse Steakhouse?

Off to a great start! Your kids are adorable and i love your DD's hair:)

Day 3 - Sunday, March 27th - Columbia Harbor House, Biegarten, Karamell-Kuche

Our first park day!!! Breakfast was just snacks we had brought along - mini-muffins, Special K bar, etc. DH did go get some Coke in his mug and drank that down before we headed to RD at the MK.

I had thought we'd either eat at Cosmic Ray's or Pecos Bill's this day, given that our plans were Frontierland and Tomorrowland. However, we also went over to Haunted Mansion. And DS had been driving us NUTS for shrimp. So we gave him some at Chef Mickey's. Turns out - he only likes them FRIED.

About 11:40 or so, we were all starving and there we were with CHH right in front of us! We decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, shrimp is only on the adult menu, not the kids, so DH kindly took a kids' meal, but ended up finishing up several other meals as well, so he had plenty ;)

Lunch - Columbia Harbor HouseMe- BLT salad, diet coke, Apple Strudel
DH- Kids' chicken nuggets, carrot sticks, cookie, Coke
DS - Fried Shrimp Basket with coleslaw and fries, chocolate cake, lemonade
DD - Kids' Macaroni and cheese, grapes, cookie, chocolate milk
Dsis -Adult Chicken Breast nuggets, apple slices, chocolate cake, pop
DSB - Adult Chicken Breast nuggets, fries, apple strudel, pop

My salad was really good. The ADULT chicken is delicious - the 3 of us really liked it, real breaded chicken pieces with good flavor. The kids' meals are the standard chicken nuggets which is sad! DS loved his shrimp, but it was a large portion - 10 shrimp I think - so DH finished that. He also finished some of DSis's chicken and my salad!! DD enjoyed her macaroni and cheese. The kids split the chocolate cake and DH ate both cookies. DSB and I LOVED the apple strudel. It was warm and really good.

We all left feeling full and satisfied. And no more asking for shrimp!!

Dinner - Biergarten
Dinner was just the 4 of us. DH really likes German food and sausages, so we wanted to try this for him. DSis and DSB, not so much, so they went to Tutto Italia (which they loved, btw, and now I want to try that next time).

we were a few minutes late for this meal. We left with plenty of time for our 6 PM ADR, however we ran into 2 problems. First a very long wait for the Epcot monorail, not sure how long, but probably 20 minutes plus. We still would've been OK, though if not for the ridiculously long lines to get into Epcot. This was our first time here on this trip, and this would stand true for every single time we went to Epcot. I think something was off with their finger scanners, but it took FOREVER to get through the turnstiles. I'm talking 10-20 minutes, whether it be Rope Drop or any other random time of day.

So once we got through, we were high-tailing it to Germany, not so fun. We checked in at about 6:05 and they told us about a 1/2 hour wait. They gave us a pager that would work anywhere in Germany. DH and DD found a bench, DS and I walked around. We were both intrigued by the Karamell store, and then the buzzer went off (after maybe only 8-10 minutes) so we planned to come back.

We were seated at a table on the top level, we were up against the railing. They also tried to seat another family (not speaking English) with us, but the family rebelled and wanted a table up against the railing. That went on and on for awhile and they finally sat them on the other side of the restaurant. There was another attempt to seat a family with us, but they also wanted something against the railing. DH and I joked about how we must have an odor, LOL!! we had a very nice older gentleman as a server. He took our drink orders, and we went to the buffet. a few minutes after we came back, another group was finally sat with us (2 couples together). This, I think, is important to remember. They were probably sat 15 or so minutes after us. It seems to us, they try to seat the tables at the same time. So anyways, the food...

This ended up being a little different than I expected. I expected more sausages, like a place in Columbus, OH called Schmitt's (that DH loves). There really weren't many sausages, and most of them were cold. The food was all good, though, and plenty to choose from. DH ate a TON and enjoyed it all. I really enjoyed the Schnitzel and Potato Dumplings, as did the kids. DD ate a bunch of those dumplings. Roasted potatoes and mac and cheese the kids ate too. The pretzel bread was delcious, and since no LeCellier for us this time, I enjoyed that. . The soup was unfortunately not Potato and instead Cauliflower, so I skipped it. The desserts were OK, nothing great. I prefered my Apple Strudel this morning to the one here!! The Bavarian Cheesecake was probably my favorite - nice and light.

So here's where we had some problems. When we were seated, the band was just finishing their performance. Our waiter informed us that the next performance was at 7. This was probably about 6:25 or so, by the time he was taking our drink orders and such. Well we were done eating before 7, so we figured we'd pay and just watch what part we saw and not worry about catching the whole thing. The kids weren't really interested anyways and wanted to catch up with DSis and DSB. So we probably finished eating at about 6:50 or so, I'd say. We did not leave Biergarten until well after 7:30!!!!!!!!!!! I think 2 factors came into play - one, our waiter probably thought we'd want to watch the show and two, the people sitting with us were not sat until probably 6:40 and were still eating. Our waiter was totally MIA. Very nice guy, but we were ready to go! He finally came over about 7:10 or so and we asked for the check. Well, he didn't bring it, until he brought our "neigbor's" check too. And then it took awhile to get the card back, etc. It was kind of frustrating, but not a big deal, and he was a very nice man. Here's a couple photos of the band:

The positive side of this is -the kids and I were now ready for a Caramel snack, LOL!! We finally used our first snack credits, and we each got a caramel-chocolate covered marshmallow stick at Karamell-Kuche. They were soooooo good. I ate all of mine and then felt overstuffed. The kids ate about 1/2 and then took the rest back to the room and put them in the fridge, finished them the next day.

Up next- Day Four- Sunshine Seasons and Wolfgang Puck Cafe

Hi There! Im subbing in :) I'm glad you liked the BLT salad at CHH, we tried it a few trips ago and I was not impressed at all with my shrimp basket. I kept wishing I would have tried that salad! I did really like that apple pie though and made that my lunch there :rotfl:

So far so fun! Nice reviews!

Thank you!! :goodvibes

DS loved the shrimp, but he's 8 ;) I can't remember what DH had to say about the ones he ate. That apple dessert is really good!!

Forgot to remark about Biergarten. While it was good, and we enjoyed it (other than the long wait at the end), I don't think we'll be back. We're glad we gave it a go, but there's just too many places to try. Plus Crystal Palace is always a must-do for us, and Chef Mickey's has been (not sure if it will continue, as the kids get older), so I think 3 buffets is just too much. I want to sit and relax!!

Wonderful updates. I never did get a dolewhip this trip. I was to lazy to wait in the long lines at MK. I can't wait to hear more.

Day Four -- Monday, March 28th - Sunshine Seasons and Wolfgang Puck Cafe

This was a rainy, stormy day! Sunshine Seasons was PACKED, as was the whole Land/Soarin' building. We had spent a lot of time there that morning!! Around 11:30 or so, we noticed it was really filling up, so we decided to break for lunch before it got worse. We decided what everyone wanted, then DSis, DSB and I went to buy it all while DH and the kids searched for a table. DSB went along to help me carry our food!!

Me- Rotisserie Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and BBQ beans; Diet Coke; Chocolate Mouse Cake

DH and DSB (both got the same)- Reuben Panini (not sure what came with this - macaroni salad maybe?); Pop; Strawberry Shortcake

DSis - Turkey and Cheese Sandwich with macaroni salad, Pop; Chocolate Mousse Cake

DS- Kids' Chicken Leg with mashed potatoes, chocolate milk, chocolate pudding

DD- Kids' Macaroni and cheese, chocolate milk, chocolate pudding

After a long wait and each bay (Grill, Salads (for mac and cheese), Sandwiches and Desserts), we were happy to find that DH had found a table.

I wasn't as impressed here as last time. Last time, it was my favorite CS!! Some changes - the chicken just wasn't as good, not exactly sure what was different. Just not as good. They also used to let you CHOOSE your sides - now they're designated. Mine was supposed to be rice and beans, I was able to swap the rice out and get mashed potatoes. However, I could not get both potatoes and rice like last time.

Everyone else enjoyed their food just fine, nothing spectacular. We were ALL disappointed that they didn't have the Cheesecake that I had last time (I think it was Butterfinger). They had just plain cheesecake. Boo!! DSB liked the Strawberry Shortcake better than DH did. He thought it was just OK. DSis and I both enjoyed the Choc. Mousse cake, though it was rich for lunch!!

So, as we're eating, the crowd is just growing. It was insane, wish I had a pic!! So right as we're taking our last bites, before we are even DONE, this woman comes up to us and says, are you finishing up? No big deal, I know it's impossible to find a seat. We said yes, she said, oh thank goodness, I saw you from the escalator coming down and it looked like you were almost done. She said these people are like Vultures!! OK, so still no problem. But then she stood there RIGHT on top of us. Breathing down mine and DS's necks. As I said - we were still finishing eating. It's not like we were just sitting there, lounging and chatting, rudely taking up a table. I felt like I had to gobble down my last bites and scramble to clear the table. I KNOW I didn't, but she was making me so uncomfortable. After we moved away, DSis was like WTH?? Doesn't she realize SHE'S a VULTURE!!! LOL!! It was not big deal, something we got a laugh out of the rest of the trip. Any time we were looking for a table or a seat - We're VULTURES!!

I think we used some snacks today- hard to remember, all the days are running together!! I think DS had a cheese danish from CC's for breakfast and DD had a cinnamon roll. I think I got a chocolate chip croissant this afternoon.

For dinner this evening, we were split up again. DSis and DSB were using CS credits to save TS credits for CRT on Friday. They ended up eating at WPE and loved it. The four of us had an ADR at Wolfgang Puck Cafe. This was our third time eating here and once again we LOVED it. This is a MUST do for us.

They started us off with rolls and flatbreads. I think last time we had Olive Oil, this time it was butter. Either way - delicious!! I really liked the Parmesan flatbread, yum!!

Me- Pumpkin Ravioli, Mango Iced Tea, Chocolate Lava Cake

DH- Flat Iron Steak, Mango Iced Tea, Snickers cheesecake

DS and DD - Spaghetti with Meatballs, Fruit Punch, Build-your-own Sundae

The pumpkin ravioli here is TO DIE FOR!! I had been looking forward to it since the last time 2 years ago. Nice and sweet and the brown butter sage sauce complements it so well. A good portion size as well - not too much, leaves plenty of room for dessert. unfortunately my Lava Cake was just OK - not really lava-y at all. DH enjoyed his steak a lot and LOVED his Cheesecake (made up for missing the one at SS this afternoon!). The kids enjoyed their entire meals, large portions. DH and I both remarked that the Mango Iced Tea wasn't as good as usual, barely a fruity taste, more just like regular iced tea. maybe we had a bad batch?

Up Next - Earl of Sandwich and Mama Melrose F! Pkg.

Joining too! We went to Wolfgang Puck cafe the last year when we were at Disney and we all loved it too. My 11 year old still talks about it! Loving the reviews so far and can't wait to read more. Very weird about the vulture woman, I would have felt uncomfortable too but I might have taken my sweet time finishing up! :rotfl2:

Hi
Thanks for the great reviews!! Can't wait to read more!!

Thanks for reading!!

really enjoying your reviews columbia harbour house sounds better than I thought :)

I can definitely see us returning to CHH. The salad was good, but the chicken on it was so good I might just get that next time!

joining in...great reviews. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for reading!

WPC rocks!! I know, it was tempting to just get downright rude back with her by lounging around!

Thanks for the reviews! I've been really depating whether to eat lunch at WPC or WPE (we're on the DxDP, so it doesn't matter). I'm a huge pumpkin ravioli fan in general, so that's what I was thinking I would order at WPC.

We have ADRs for Biergarten in June. It'll be our first time there. Our kids at 3 and 6. With their ages, do you recommend that we request the main floor or the upper floor? Will they be able to "see" if we're on the second floor, not against the railing?

i'm looking forward to the rest of your reviews, especially YS!

WPC has the best pumpkin ravioli I've ever had!! We're thinking of trying to get to both WPC and WPE next trip. But EoS is also usually a must-do so that means 3 trips over to DTD! So we'll see..

Re: Biergarten. I would think they could see anywhere from the main floor but I"m not positive since we didn't go down there. On the upper floor, I would think they would have a very HARD time seeing if they weren't against the railing. For adults I'm sure it's fine, our seating companions didn't seem to have any trouble, but for kids I'm sure it would be hard.

Day 5 - Tuesday, March 29th - Earl of Sandwich and Mama Melrose F! Pkg.

Day 5 already!!

We started off the day separately. DSis and DSB spent the day at their resort. We headed to AK. That's not our favorite park, so we don't spend a lot of time there (and this trip - it was VERY little, see my TR!). I think we had pastries from CC's for breakfast again this AM.

We headed over to DTD for lunch at Earl of Sandwich This was our 2nd visit here, we really enjoyed the warm, yummy sandwiches last trip.

Me- Full Montagu, Diet Coke, Choc-PB Brownie
DH- Caribbean Jerk Chicken, pop, Choc. Brownie
DS - PB&J, lemonade, Cupcake Coronet
DD-PB&J, some sort of fountain drink, choc-PB Brownie

Our sandwiches were DELICIOUS!! I had a repeat of last time and loved it again. DH tried something new and he said it was great, I think he had the Hawaiian BBQ last time and loved that too. The kids had Grilled Cheese last time and this time tried the PB&J - OMG, those sandwiches were so good. They were WARM, so the PB was all melt-y!! They both devoured them and DD only let me have one tiny bite. The dessets were really good, for a packaged dessert. I saved mine to take back to the room...I had a good reason, which you'll see in a minute. I ate mine for breakfast the next morning! DD ate about 2/3 of hers and took the rest back to the room.

EoS definitely isn't the best value on the DDP. The sandwiches are only $5.99 each and you only get a side OR a dessert, not both. But it's plenty of food for us, and we really like the sandwiches.

So.....why didn't I eat my Brownie??? Because I had in mind one of my favorite snacks in all of the World....a DOH Bar!!! These are sooooo yummy, delicious, chocolate-y, peanut-y, melt-y goodness!! I first heard about them hear on the DIS, and tried one last trip and OMG, soooooo good!! I am NOT usually a fan of deep-fried things. I've tried deep-fried twinkies and eh, no thanks. But this is heaven on a stick!! I also discovered after our last trip that I can get these at our county fair - where they're just called Snickers on a Stick. So it's now my goal in life to have one a year - either in Disney or at the fair (late August).

So I walked over to Cooke's of Dublin by myself to get my treat. DH and the kids popped into the toy store I think, and then we met at the car. I had to wait quite awhile (everything is made-to-order here, and the lunch crowd was there), but it was worth it. It's just hard to describe how delicous these are - the chocolate melts so the inside (of the batter) is almost liquidy, but with a thickness, and then there's the peanuts to add the crunch. To die for!!

Dinner tonight was at Mama Melrose, all 6 of us, for the Fantasmic Package. We got the latest F! pkg ressie - 5 PM. None of us had ever seen the show, so we figured this was the best way to go. This place gets mixed reviews, so I was a little nervous. But there was no reason to be, we really enjoyed our meal. That was, once we got to eat! You see, this was our one and only "seating problem". Not a major one at all, but the only real "hiccup" with regards to ADR's/seating. We checked in at about 4:45. The place was MOBBED! The hostess, I never did get her name, which I regret, was kind of rude. She told me it would be 45 mins- 1 hour till we were seated. i said "with an ADR" and she said yes, they were behind. I said OK. She then proceeded to not-so-nicely say several times that our entire party had to be ready to go when they called our name or we would not be seated and would lose our spot. Oooookay...we're all here. And they don't do pagers, so you have to stand in the lobby area or JUST outside the door. She was very emphatic that we couldn't walk ANYWHERE. OK. Well, the lobby was packed full, no way the 6 of us could even fit in there. So I went back out and we all stood just outside the door, right under the menu hanging next to it. It was so crowded outside the door too, since she was telling everyone that.

So we waited about 20 minutes and then space opened up in the lobby so we went in there. Waited probably 15 minutes more and then we watched this interaction occur:

A family of 6 (same as us remember) came in. It seems they were VERY late for their 4:30 ADR (It was probably 5:20 at this point. The hostess said they could not seat them and said they might be able to squeeze them in around 7:30 or so. The family seemed very nice but wouldn't back down, saying that wouldn't work b/c of F! (Well, maybe you should have showed up on time then!). It seems they knew someone who worked there, so someone else was called up to talk to them, they said the same thing - 7:30 or so. They asked for the manager. He came up and talked to them, we could not hear what went on there. He walked away, they remained, and lo and behold - 2 minutes later they were seated!!!!!!!!!! (This was probably about 5:30)

My sister and I were PISSED! They basically gave them a table that could have been ours, when they showed up almost an hour late to their ADR and raised a ruckus. I'm sure the Manager just didn't want to deal with them, but that stinks!! So, I went up to the hostess and basically said What the heck? She said let me check where you are on the list and gave me some BS about how it's harder to seat parties of 6 than parties of 4 or less. Fine, but she didn't realized that we KNEW what had just happened. When I told her that, she said she'd get the manager and he'd be right out to talk to us. Then she came back and said he'd be a few minutes (yeah, b/c he knew he screwed up). Well, that manager never came out and we ended up getting called for our table at 5:37. So we were seated 37 minutes after our ADR time, when we had arrived 15 minutes early (total of 52 minutes waiting), while a family that waltzed in 50 minutes late for their ADR waited a total of 10 minutes. Seem fair? As I said, I regret not getting the hostess's name (she just really had a rude tone with everyone) and should have talked to the manager (requested him AGAIN), but at this point we just wanted to enjoy the meal, so I just let it go. I honestly didn't really think any more of it until now when I'm typing in and now I'm wishing I could send some sort of email, but I didn't let it ruin our dinner or anything.

Our service really improved with our waitress. I forget her name, but she was from Pittsburgh, so DH and DSB gave her a hard time about Browns vs. Steelers! She was very pleasant and funny and we had great service. So, onto the food:

Me- Mixed greens, Chicken Parmesan, Chocolate Cannoli Cake, iced tea
DH- Calamari, Pork Chop, Chocolate Amaretto Cheesecake, iced tea
DSis- shared Antipasto with DSB, Chicken Parmesan, Choc. Amar. Cheesecake, Coke
DSB- shared Antipasto, chicken Pipette, Choc. Cannoli Cake, iced tea
DS -kid's salad, kid's pizza, ice cream sundae, choc. milk
DD- Sliced apples, kid's pizza, ice cream sundae, choc. milk

EVERYTHING was really good - we had no food complaints at all. Since it was the F! pkg, we got Apps on the DDP. Again, our waitress was great. Only DH (and DS) wanted the Calamari, but it has to be shared by 2 adults. She said no problem, she'd let him get it alone. We thought she'd bring out a half portion, but no, he got a whole, HUGE portion of it, which he and DS loved. The kids also both wanted pizza, but wanted ice cream as well (the pizza was one of the pre-plated type meals, not a pick and choose). Again, she said no problem.

My salad was delicous. It had gorgonzola and dried cherries. Really good!! The chicken parmesan was just the right portion, DSis and I thought. We were both really hungry at this point and I think we both ate it all. DH was very happy with his Pork Chop choice (that the waitress recommended). He's not big on Italian food in restaurants (just likes mine and my Mom's), so this was perfect for him. And DSB raved about his Chicken pasta!!

Onto desserts - both DSis and DH liked their cheesecake, but nothing special I don't think. Mine and DSB's Choc. Cannoli cake, though, SO GOOD. I loove cannolis and while I don't think this had a lot of "cannoli" filling, it was still really good. I was a little nervous, b/c the menu said a red wine-based sauce, and I'm not a wine drinker. But the sauce was delicious, kind of a tart complement to the very sweet cake. This was probably my favorite dessert the entire trip!!!

RE: the F! pkg. They gave us a pass and told us where we needed to go to enter. The pass is only for the 8:30 show, and we needed to be there no later than 8. No problem...or so we thought!! See my TR for details on that, LOL!!

Coming up next....Pepper Market and Ohana!

Oh man! That's terrible! I'm glad you were able to enjoy your meal after that, but I would also have been pissed.
