So many Myrtle Beach resort choices.....

We always stay at the Breakers Resort. When I actually lived in Myrtle Beach, I used to work there. The rooms are very nice. I'llpost a link to my photos from last July. They have a bunch of pools and a lazy river, plus the obvious beach. They are located at 21st Ave.North (don't stay at the north tower location as they don't have the same ameneties...)

There are a bunch of photos of us, but at the end of the album, there are some pics of our room so you can get an idea. It was in the Paradise Tower.

We had not been to Myrtle Beach in years when we decided to go last year with some friends of ours. I spent hours and hours researching different places to stay and just when I thought I figured out the best place, I would start reading a ton of bad reviews (after reading a bunch of good ones) and then would change my mind.

I finally found and decided on Anderson Beach Club. It was a new building with condos. It ended up being reasonable on price for a two bedroom (actually beat many other top rated hotels by a nice little bit) and was in a decent location. (It is at the north end of Myrtle, but NOT in what is called North Myrtle.) We ended up having a really nice condo with 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a full kitchen and living room PLUS a really nice large balcony that was full ocean front.

I would stay there again in a heart beat, but there were a few cons to it. You have only a couple really slow elevators. When you want to go to the pool or beach, you have to cross over the check in parking that can be pretty busy with cars all day long. The parking garage is a little small and tight for a large vehicle and it is located across the street so it can be a little bit much if you have small kids with a bunch of stuff in your hands and the traffic is busy.

We've never been to Myrtle Beach before but we will be staying at Baywatch in July.

You can also try White Reality for listings of houses and condos in Crescent and North Myrtle Beach area. We have stayed at several different condos thru them. It's not quite as busy as the main section of Myrtle Beach, but still close to everything you need (you will not believe how many minature golfs are there).

We love Dunes Village, but unless we get a rate at or near 50% off, it is out of our price range, so we've only stayed there twice (grand opening special and a recession lowered price).

My limited list of places to stay includes the Caribbean and most of its sister resorts (access any one of their sites and you can see the full list.) Compass Cove is one of the sisters too. But although we had stayed there several times in 2003 and 2004, after our most recent time, Compass Cove got "off" my list because the hotel just wasn't up to prior standards. It may or may not be better now, I just can't bring myself to go back when there are better choices.
Other than Compass Cove, I'd consider most of the "sisters" for a future stay. Sister property Ocean Reef has some gorgeous (and reasonably priced) corner "parlor" rooms that have balconies on both sides. DH & I had a great stay in a different room type there, and we asked to see a one of those for a future stay. But the thing that would hold me back from returning there was the parlor room we visited happened to be on the ninth floor. As soon as we walked in, I noticed that the balcony rails were much more widely spaced there than I was comfortable with (as a Mom). We were staying on a lower floor, so it wasn't an issue, but your floor choice is never guaranteed, and the thought of possibly being on the 9th floor with a small child just held me back from considering that hotel again with DD.

I think we have been back to the Caribbean more than any other hotel in MB lately. We love that it is the last big hotel next to a stretch of houses, but more importantly, next to the Sea Captain's House restaurant. :cool2:

Dunes Village is on the other end of the stretch of houses and is newer (and has the indoor water slides).

We haven't been back to Dayton House for a while, but we liked it, and especially enjoyed the zero entry pool when DD was small. Dayton House is not one of the sisters, btw. I believe it is still an independent hotel (maybe family run?)

You can sometimes get a nice rate at a nice place if you look for grand opening specials. My parents stayed at Towers on the Grove last year in beautiful accommodations for a decent price. And that was how we found Dunes Village. But you are taking a chance.

I hope this helps!

Two great places are Dayton House and Hampton Inn Oceanfront you can't go wrong with either of these 2 places. We have been going to the Dayton House since 1994. It is older but it is clean, safe and there are several pools, lazy river and tables with umbrellas & chairs on the grass. Wish I were there now!!:)

Thanks guys, there are just so many choices!

My husband has been looking at a place called Sea Mist. Anybody heard anything about it? He likes the concept of the family package they have where it includes amusement park tickets and it has a waterpark (like the beach and pool isn't enough)

We have stayed here twice and we love the resort. It is in Myrtle Beach so close to everything. It is very family friendly and a like Disney they push family values. They run kids movies on the TV, our DD still loves Lady and the Tramp from watching it during our stay there. They have a tunnel to use so you never have to cross the street to get to the on property water park, put put golf, or ice cream in the evening.Besides the waterpark, they have many indoor and outdoor pools to choose from. The best thing about Sea Mist is they have small buildings and areas more like what you get at Disney and for the price of some of the other resorts you are giving your family lots of things to do with the family pkg included. Nothing beats going on vacation and then being nickle and dimed to pieces trying to entertain your family.
You will love this resort, we have:thumbsup2

If you want family oriented you want to stay in North Myrtle Beach. It's smaller, quieter, less obnoxious. You can always head into the Grand Strand during the day but you want to be gone before too late in the evening. There is a reason it's called The Redneck Riviera! From there it depends on what your family likes to do. I'm from Charleston and have family that lives there. PM me with what you are interested in and I'll send you some links and information. Pawleys is super nice as well but more expensive. Whatever you do you have to eat at Crabby Mikes. They also have a churrascaria there. It is delicious but very expensive and worth it! Warning: you have to be a carnivore to appreciate it. We never go because my husband is Brazilian and we attend parties about 4 times a year with the same kind of food. If you get a condo and wanna go cheap there is a Brazilian butcher shop that will sell you the meat already prepped. All you have to do is cook it; the secret is wood- no charcoal and no gas.
If I remember correctly Tanger has a Disney store outlet :)
Then there is the golf and more golf and just when you think you can't possibly see another golf course... Golf!
South of Myrtle Beach is Brookgreen Gardens- every Wednesday during the summer they have dinner and nightly entertainment with cruises on the creek. It's so beautiful and relaxing. There are also children's learning activities.
Oh I could just go on too long- sorry
PM and I'll get you hooked up with stuff. I can also send you recipes if you want to try Brazilian before you buy it. Most of the Brazilians here are from Minas and Sao Paulo. So you end up getting meat, sushi, and italian food- go figure. You haven't lived til you see how avocado is really a dessert ;)

We will be staying at Seamist in July. We have never been to MB. We have my husbands family reunion there this summer.
Based on some of those reviews, some family members who live close to MB went to see the place. They said it was nice and clean, a little dated, the reunion *committee* decided it was going to be OK for us to go. Since you are not going until Aug, I can give you our thoughts on the place when we return in late July!!!

We stayed at The Coral Reef Resort a few years ago and loved it! Very family friendly , right on the beach and lots to do. Myrtle Beach is a really nice vacation, a lot of fun. Make sure you hit Broadway at the Beach, it reminds me of Downtown Disney.

I have lived in Myrtle Beach for the last 8 years and my son worked at the Sea Mist for a short time last summer. He told us stories about the cleaning staff and what they didn't do and how some rooms wouldn't get the sheets changed on the beds between guest stays. The rooms are old and dirty. They all smelled like mildew. Do not let you kids walk on the carpet barefooted. Not a nice place. Many other nicer places to stay in Myrtle Beach.

There is a Disney Outlet at the Tanger Outlets on Business 17! :thumbsup2There used to be one at the outlets on 501, but it has closed!:sad2:

I've only been there one time, but we stayed in a condo at Myrtle Beach Resort... MyrtleBeachResort.com (multiple buildings and price points to choose from)

We liked that it was on the beach, had 2 outdoor pools, a lazy river, indoor pools in case it rained, an arcade, snack bars both inside and out, etc...

having the condo allowed us a kitchen and we prepared a lot of our own meals and had snacks handy to save money

I would return there (the resort) if we went back to Myrtle Beach, but i'm not real keen on the Myrtle Beach area - just prefer other beach areas over this one

We always stay at the SeaCrest Resort on South Beach. It is a short walk to Family Kingdom Amusement Park and it is also right on the beach. Beautiful rooms all recently redone in 2008 and again this past winter. Great friendly staff and good prices if you book early. Their website is gotomyrtle.com. Plenty of parking in a garage right accross the street if you cannot get a spot in the lot. Fun pools and small waterpark, lazy rivers, etc...

We stayed at Ocean Reef and LOVED it! My avatar picture was taken fromthe balcony of my room- it was great. We had plans on staying there again in June this year but I ended up with someone giving me a condo at Barefoot Resort for the week so we are staying there instead- can't beat free LOL!

WOW you have all been great with your info...so many to choose from, it is sooo overwhelming.

THANKS

We always stay at Dayton House Inn. It's old but clean. It's safe and quiet - very family oriented. They have several pools, including a zero entry pool that DS LOVES. It's oceanfront and in between the pool area and the beach is a grassy area with lounge chairs, upright chairs, tables and umbrellas (free of charge). Last year we stayed in an angle oceanview room and used the efficiency kitchn (with full fridge and microwave) for breakfast and lunch.

It's close to pretty much everything.

We stayed there in 2008. We enjoyed it, but it is NOT luxury by any stretch. The room was clean, but older, the beds not the best we've ever slept in. We had an oceanfront efficiency - 4th floor, one bath, a full fridge, stove and sink stocked with dishes. 2 beds, and a balcony overlooking the ocean. The boys enjoyed the pools and the beach. We went at the end of August and it wasn't crowded at all. A nice, family place.

ETA - we are considering Compass Cove this year - have heard good things.
