So I here people say they find the rooms dark, is it just poor lighting? is it becasue of dark furniture and wall treatments? How dark is dark? are they abou the same as the non-dvc rooms at AKLV?

Thanks

Yes they are a little dark. I think it is because of the furnishings not because of lighting. We stayed in a 1 bedroom and I especially noticed it in the kitchen. I think it was beacuse of the dark wood and black appliances. I still loved AKV though.

The bathroom lighting is unessarily dim at AKV thanks to energy saving CFL's

Otherwise I find the whole mood at AKV to have a cool, calm, exotic vibe...not dark.

The colors, dark wood, and low wattage bulbs makes the rooms darker than the other resorts.

Stayed there 2 years ago and yes it was a little dark but not that bad just keep the drapes open with the shears closed and you'll be fine.

Frankly, I think they've lightened it up significantly over the years. I stayed at what was just AKL way back after 9/11 in what's now a value studio location. Back then, when I wanted to read, it was impossibly dark-I had to go to the lobby to get enough light to read. Compared to that, it seems fine now. Yes, the colors, the woods, seem darker than other resorts, but that's part of the theming. I think the lighting's fine now.

ok
I was wondering about reading and kids doing homework, at least one of the teen DDs going are taking AP classes and will be doing homework some nights and my wife and I are avid readers. Maybe I will bring some of my own LED lamps and just screw them in when we get there.

Thanks again
Dave

Over the years it seems to me that the bathroom lights are dimmer at night than during the day? Is that my imagination or do others see that too. This is at any Disney Resort.

I find any room location at AKV to be dark. But, not so awful that you can't read. You need to turn on all the lights and crack the curtains. They are going for some kind of dark, lodgey atmosphere:confused3

We find that for younger ones like my daughters (in their 20s) the lighting is OK for reading but for those who are much older like me, it can be an issue.

Dark. Been there several times. Still dark. Now let's talk about the tiny bathrooms in the Studios. Oh yes,...toilet paper should be a total twist around to the back ... oye. :rotfl2:

I little dark, but no more so than VWL.

I try not to read on vacation. I do way too much the rest of the year. ;)

A couple of years ago it was just fine. In May - boy had it gotten dark! My eye doctor has made a few comments about changes to the eyes as we get older. :rolleyes1

My biggest problem was the bathroom. I couldn't see well enough to put in/remove my contacts or to shave. Otherwise, I didn't mind the darkness much.

Yes, I find the light adequate in all of the areas except the bathroom. However, I just use that as an excuse to not wear makeup! :thumbsup2
