So, is the main difference between the Garmin Forerunner 205 and the 305...

...the heart rate monitor on the 305?

For the life of me I can't find a side-by-side comparison of the units' features. The heart rate monitor is the only thing that sticks out to me.

Based on this and price, I'm leaning toward the Forerunner 205. Does anyone have advice or opinions to share?

I'm pretty sure the only difference is the heart rate monitor (similar to the previous 201/301). My DW just got me the 305 for my birthday and I love it! I previously had a 201 and wanted a heart rate monitor, so she upgraded me.

If you're not worried about the monitor, I would go with the 205, as you said. The design of the 205 is much improved from the 201, and it seems to be more comfortable to wear and a little less bulky. They say the satellite signal is stronger with the 205/305 due to the positioning of the receiver. I have noticed that I can get a signal from inside the house before I go out for a run, which is nice. I couldn't do that with the 201.
