So Iran doesn't have a nuclear program either...

That that I'm agreeing or disagreeing with you, but I'm curious what's your basis for this fact?

War has been declared on us? By Iraq?

At the risk of sounding glib, wouldn't it be refreshing to hear just one person on the conservative side say "I'm sorry, you're right. It's hard for us to remember where the President's talking points end and reality begins"?

And I think that's really the point-I would like to think that most of the American people would like a little more care taken before we go invading another country. This report is encouraging to me because having it out there means that it will be harder for the Administration to invade Iran than it was for them to invade Iraq.

Guess again.

The only warning is never assume anything about George Bush. I wouldn't put it passed him to attack Iran just before his term is up just to fulfill his delusional messianic vision of himself.

No, because if/when they do that, they lose their conservative credentials and become "the other side" to their former political compadres.

However, I'll take this opportunity to say THEY WERE WRONG about EVERYTHING and WE WERE RIGHT. How THEY can continue droning on and on as if they actually have a track record of success is the punchline to a bad joke.

Got this Bush quote from the article you linked to: "This is a nation testing ballistic missiles, trying to enrich Uranium; this is a country that had a covert nuclear weapons program, which they had failed to disclose until today." Of course, our dear CIC doesn't mention that the report says that the program ended in 2003. Ladies and Gentlemen, I believe we are witnessing the birth of a new Republican talking point! How exiting for all of us...

Completely true. The minute that I started to question the decisions of the Sainted President, I was "one of THEM".

OTOH-people who had the perfect right to bury me in "We told you so" never did.

Bush's response to this?

This is a warning!

He is really saying.."Quick get me the mushroom cloud images..." :sad2:

He's right about one thing-it is a warning. It is a warning for US and to our Senators and Congress members to do a better job this time than they did in the run up to Iraq.

Agreed. The way the Democrats in Congress rolled over for this Administration the first time was disheartening. Sad thing is, since Congress recently designated Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization, what's to stop the Bush Administration from attacking Iran under the Patriot Act? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the check's already been signed...the dope simply has to cash it.

As long as Bush has the power of the CIC, he can order a raid on Iran. He doesn't need Congress's approval or even have to tell them beforehand. That's what ought to scare the hell out of everyone.

It's a warning of what can happen as long as Bush remains in office. Impeachment should've been the first priority for Pelosi and Reid.

How delusional is Bush. He's rehired Paul Wolfowitz who was one of the architects of the Iraq war and it's chief cheerleader.

An Old Face Resurfaces
The Bush administration has offered the former World Bank president a new public service position.

So let's see what Wolfowitz brings to the table:

1) He got everything wrong with the Iraq war

2) He had to leave his job at the World Bank because of a scandal involving sex and money.

Apparently the only people who want to work for Bush and Rice are other incompetents who can't find their *** with both hands and a mirror.

I wonder how many more people need to die before the masses say.."Why didn't we impeach?"

Sad thing is, the frivolous impeachment hearings in the '90s left such a bad taste in the mouths of most Americans, we're afraid to pull the trigger when a legitimate reason for impeachment exists...

You're right, but we need to be screaming a little louder. This is a legitimate reason.

The other thing is, the Democrats have been unable to get anything passed because they don't have a large enough majority. Wouldn't that affect any march toward impeachment?

I recently went to a demonstration by a company called Applied Minds, and the demonstration was to promote engineering, and show what engineering could do to improve computers. Well, in this demonstration, they showed how Iran has this little nuclear facility that really doesn't have the capacity to make nuclear weapons... However, they were showing aerial shots, and they did a time-phase, showing us that in the huge field next to this little nuclear plant were two underground buildings - huge buildings - each one big enough to hold three aircraft carriers underground. We saw the holes in the ground, the concrete structures, then the dirt covering the structures so it looks like fields, and a tunnel that was built, with a building over the entrance to the tunnel. Then in the demonstration they showed all the anti-aircraft detection/protection that surrounds both the huge field & the innocuous looking nuclear facility.

Regardless of the articles that are written, and the political speech, this demonstration showed that there is a definite threat out there. So, I do believe that Iran is a threat to us, unfortunately.

I believe Iran has admitted to as such but also admitted that the weapons program ended in 2003 and that they're enriching uranium for peaceful uses. Surely the people at Applied minds didn't have evidence that Iran was building a nuclear facility with the intent of building nuclear weapons within the last couple years and the WH didn't know about it. Unfortunately, with the world opinion of the US teetering at an all time low, it's in Iran's best interests to continue to make us look bad by complying with UN sanctions while our CIC keeps up the John Wayne impersonations. They become a bigger player on the extremely lucrative world stage by playing the part of the good guys than any singular nuclear attack could ever achieve.

I agree. Without a larger majority, it's most definitely a moot point.

I don't think you'll get much opposition on your take from the left...I only wish we would have followed the game plan you've laid out for Iran in Iraq all those years ago. Oh, what even a few more months of Iraqi UN inspections would have shown, and all the American lives and tax dollars we could have saved!

I am encouraged by what I am hearing about the improving situation in Iraq today. I am encouraged that the Iraqis appear to be taking their country back and stabilizing. This is entirely due to the efforts and sacrifice of the US military as directed by the National Command Authority. The rest of the Govt, the media & academia did nothing. I will not forget this.

I believe it was worth the sacrifice of our finest & the history (when it written), will concur. I do not think we can (or should) repeat this elsewhere though. Iraq is Iraq. Iran is Iran.

I may be reading the PP response incorrectly, but I think they were referring to Iran not Iraq.

If it is Iran, I believe there are a whole range of acts of war seen over the years i.e. US Embassy takeover in 1979, Bombing of the Marine Barracks in Lebanon in the 80's, the current proxy war unpleasantness against Israel (an ally of the US) & insurgent activity in Iraq just to name a few.

If PP means undeclared war by the Muslim world in general against the US.....well, I don't know. Sure, the extremists have declared (how many fatwas so far?)......but I don't know about the rest.....yet......

Regards,

I agree that the military has done their usual outstanding job. However, the surge did not achieve the desired goals. The President said that the Surge would stabilize the area and allow the Iraqi's to step up. Well, our people did their job (as usual and as expected) but the Iraqis did not. My feeling is that as long as our commitment to remain "surging" is indefinate, then the Iraqi's are going to continue to let our soldiers do all the work while they sit back. What is their incentive to do the job themselves if they know we're just going to keep doing it?
