So how do you pronounce "milk"?

I do not think I will be able to sleep tonight. I'm one of those people who goes bonkers if I hear something mispronounced. But I read this thread, I'm saying milk to myself and I'm pretty sure I pronounce it "melk". I'm panicky over it. I do not like milk and probably do not say the word very often but I think I say it wrong. :scared1: Nobody has ever mentioned to me that I do.

And if I say milk wrong, what other words are in my vocabulary that I'm unwittingly mispronouncing. I may need therapy now.

oh pakey...we can say melk together...in therapy! :lmao:

I say Melk... my husband says MILLk and I can't STAND it lol. It drives me crazy, but it drives him just as crazy when I say melk lol. I just grew up saying it Melk

My best friend from college, also from Chicago area pronounces it melk. I figured it's a regionalism. :)

Still, it drives me nuts, too, since it's spelled M-I-L-K. But I'm sure there are other words I mispronounce regardless of the spelling. :rolleyes1

I grew up in the Chicago are too, and I grew up saying melk. Now, I say it both ways, however it happens to come out. Don't know why.:rolleyes1

My pet peeve is when people say coupon as que-pon. That drives me nuts for some reason. :scared:

We call it lait around here, so that does not help ;)

Yes, I heard that from my grandmother when I was growing up! Brings back memories

On another note, for some reason when my daughter was young she used to call it NOT. I could never figure that one out.

Dh says melk, drives the rest of us that know how to pronounce it correctly nuts :lmao: . He says 'pellow' too.

I have never heard the crayon/crown thing--where is that from?

I say 'melk' and it drives DH crazy! I never even noticed I said it wrong til he pointed it out. No matter how I try, I can't say it correctly. I had major speech problems as a child....I'll blame it on that.

definitely mil-k here!

Another mispronunciation pet-peeve (if the OP doesn't mind the highjack;) ) is when people pronounce crayon as "crown." Drives. Me. Bonkers!!

Omg, me, too.

I say millk, though some down here think I say it more like melk, but that's just because they say it more like mee-illk. My best friend growing up called it melk and said pellow, instead of pillow, too.

I say melk. I went to school across the street of a monestary. Maybe that's why!:rotfl:
