Not with you or Disney:love: but with my husband.

With all your help and advice I made out a spreadsheet with all our different options and prices for our "planned" trip in August. I asked him to look at it, but he said "Not yet, we aren't going until August so we don't need to think about it for a few months"

I really want to go with the giftcard special for some reason and I think that special only lasts until March 27th if read correctly. I'm afraid that we will not get any deals for Aug.1-7th if I wait and book. Then he won't want to go :sad2:

Maybe if they do have the dining plan deal then we can go in September when we originally planned, but I hate the wait and see game :(

Someone tell me there will still be deals to be had if we wait to book!!!!!

I had even decided what to do already. POR with trundle, quick service dining $500.00 giftcard. I want that booking :sad1:

Honestly men don't get it. My dh doesn't want to talk dining reservations 6 month in advance. He loves disney but I just make the plans and he follows is that a option? If it is I would book now. Once the promo expires you won't be able to book it.

My DH isn't as into the planning as I am. I'd just say to your DH "honey, here is where we are staying, this is what it will cost, sound good?" and then go ahead and book the trip. It's short, sweet, you get your booking and he gets the bottom line. :)

Do you need him to book it? My husband is not a planner, so I just get him to agree to a date, and then I do the rest. His only job is to find a dog sitter before we go. I use money out of the household account to make the reservation (we usually book room only and then add the dining plan later so that it's not due 45 days in advance, but we use military discounts, so I don't have to book a package to get the deal), then a few weeks before the trip I get him to cough up the money, I add the dining plan, and we pay for everything.
He loves that when we get there everything is already taken care of, and I love planning (I'm a spreadsheet girl too!) so it works for us!
I also want to add that POR is where we stayed on our first trip and we LOVED it!!! So beautiful and relaxing, and our "mousekeeper" was awesome!

Oh yeah if I went ahead and booked it he would be super pissed. I just wish I knew if the free dining plan was a for sure.

Originally we had planned on going from Sept.19-25th so we would be there for our 10th anniversary (the whole reason for the Disney trip), but as I started looking I seen it would be cheaper if we went in August while Avery was still 2 years old. I think I just liked the idea of the giftcard because it seemed like we wouldn't be spending cash there because we'd have the giftcard.

I was just looking on the Disney site and saved a few prices for September and "if" the free dining is there it might be just as beneficial as the giftcard option.

I guess I could always tell family to get the kids Disney giftcards for their birthdays instead of presents this year as well.

I don't know why I'm so hung up on the giftcards, you know when you get something in your head??? :lmao:

I'm just so excited about going, and terrified he's going to say "no we can't afford it this year" :(

Which in reality we can't, but I say life is short! Enjoy the moment. Who is to say that next year will be any better?

Do you have to get the dining plan in order to get the gift card? If you can get it with out adding dining, and money is an issue (when isn't it?), then just use the gift card to purchase food. $500 should be enough (especially if you were planning on quick service) and it would save you some money.
I'm sure there will be a great deal after this one, maybe even better. Have you thought of staying at a value? We stayed one night at ASmu and it was really nice! The kids loved it and would have been just as happy there as anywhere else. They just love being at Disney!
You can book room only at a value, and all you have to pay is one nights stay. You can make payments each month if you want, and if in the end you have to cancel, you get your money back. If a good deal comes out, you could always add it on.

Sounds like my husband!!! Can't you just book and then cancel if you need to? There isn't a penalty. It's $200 on your credit card that is refunded to you when you cancel.

While you have to book the giftcard offer by March 27, it has been extended to include dates out until August 14. I would book something now. If a better deal comes out during that timeframe or if you choose to go in September instead, you can transfer the $200 deposit over to the other package.

That's a pretty general statement that would be blasted if the someone were to reverse that with "women just don't get it".
My wife and I start discussing dining options on our way HOME from Disney, and continue planning until we call for our ADRs. We go with a group of people, and start sorting out the dining at family gatherings starting around Christmas. Women AND men together along with the kids, so we know everyone has had a say in where we dine.

I'm sure she wasn't thinking of you when she said that - geez chill out!

Really?? I could book the August trip now with the giftcard and then if we decided to switch to September I wouldn't lose any money? That makes a huge difference!!!

Honestly men don't get it.

What you mean is some men don't get it and neither do some women. I've made all the plans for our upcoming trip, booked all the dining reservations and organised the best schedule centred around EMH times.

I suggested booking a slot at Pirates League for my son and the missus wasn't happy at yet another 'rigid timeframe'. Now don't get me wrong, my wife loves being at WDW but she just doesn't like planning meals for next week never mind 6 months away (two months now).

We are in the boat where I plan and pay for everything and dh might show up. lol. The funny thing is that when he is there, he has a grand time and doesn't stop smiling, but if you want him to actually be involved in the planning, you're out of luck. He actually gets mad at me if I ask him to be involved now. So, I just plan it out and tell him when we are going.

The number one rule with Disney is: Plan ahead and book early, there is no guarantee the location you want will be available tomorrow Number two: book any dining reservations ASAP -- there is no guarantee your timeslot at the restaurant you want will be available tomorrow ... and three: if you see something you like a store buy it... want to guess what follows ;) no guarantee you will find it 'tomorrow' :lmao::lmao:

GOOD LUCK!
And don't worry I think we've all dealt with a partner ((and this is NOT gender specific)) who has said "what's the rush" at one point or another.

My hubby only said that for one trip -- he understands how though after my frustration in trying to get something after his procrastination to just give me an answer ASAP or just give me free reign to book ;)

GOOD LUCK and no matter what in the end -- it's about being there with our family or friends and learning to be a kid once more. Have a wonderful vacation when the time comes. :wizard:  :flower3 :pixiedust:

Just explain to your husband that Disney only has a certain number of deals per resort. You need to book now with a $200 deposit to secure the deal. Tell him if you wait, it could cost hundreds of dollars. And as said, you can cancel and get your money back. But this way, you are locked into the deal.

I find with Disney trips, there has to be one Captain! Someone needs to be the one to watch for deals, make dining etc. Now more people can get in on the planning as far as where, when etc. But the person who is in charge of watching the deals and booking, needs to be able to jump on deals as they come up without waiting because they can go fast.

I hope it works out, once he sees how much money you can save with a deal, he'll thank you especially once he's there having so much fun!

my DH was like that originally...he thought I was nuts for planning so far out. But then I put it all out w/ the price savings w/ a discount (or free dining, whatever) and told him that there's a limited # of rooms they book with this. If we don't do it, we run the risk of paying the rack rate. Well, THAT did it ! :lmao: All of a sudden he was very interested. ( hmm, go figure) But really, if you want the discount, book it. Like the PP said, once they run out of those rooms, they're gone. then you're stuck w/ paying the rack rate. ( I'd rather have the gift card personally!!)
The other thing is that you're going in August....You're going to need to make your ADR's (if you want to go to TS restaurants). You can wait till the last minute but you're going to have to be far more flexible in what you get rather than choosing what you want.... I'd really sit him down and tell him that this isn't just a "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of thing.... good luck and have fun !!

Sorry didn't mean to offend anyone by my statement. It was directed at my husband. But seriously my dh has no clue about what it take to book a vacation.

Listen - I believe you CAN make a reservation and then, if a better deal comes along - you can change your dates or even the hotel and not LOSE your deposit.

Am I right or wrong? I've done this once but it was like back in 2006.

Yes - I believe so!!! Call and ask them!!

I have been tracking Disney summer specials for the past 4 years now. They have offered free dining for at least the last 4 summers (Mid August til early Oct). However, last year they extended the free dining til Dec (we took advantage of it in Nov).

I think you could book it now if you feel you have too, and if a better deal comes along, I think you can rebook it to get the free dining. I am not sure about changing it as I haven't before, but I believe other people have done so.
