I'm taking 7yoDS on his first trip to DL in late March. It's a suprise for him, he has no clue..he thinks we're simply going to the Sac area to visit friends for a few days.

I'm sooooo excited though and it's only getting "worse" (or better) the closer it gets. I don't know I can keep the suprise. I want him to be excited too!

We're going to have 5 park days..cannot wait.:cheer2:

I am taking my daughter for her sixth birthday on President's day weekend. She has no idea. I have never kept this type of trip secret. I feel your pain. It will be such a great bonus for your little one. Hold it in. You can do it.:thumbsup2

How exciting! Your DS will be so thrilled! We surprised our boys last May and we are doing it again in Feb. :goodvibes

Have a wonderful trip! BTW how do you plan to reveal you are going? Take video!!!!!

If you want him to be excited, tell him! Think about it...he'll be surprised now, or later. Either way, he'll be surprised.

We're leaving tomorrow morning for Disney World with our 10yr old DN. She has no clue we're going anywhere and she's never been to WDW although been to Disneyland many times. She's never flown either. We're gonna wake her early and tell her we're going to Disneyland but flying this time (we always drive). Her mom snuck us her clothes to pack so she wouldn't suspect anything.

She may figure it out when we have a short layover in Texas and question why we're going in the wrong direction for Disneyland. If she hasn't figured it out by then, we'll tell her on the 2nd leg and give her maps and have her watch a WDW DVD we're bringing.

Disneymama - how I tell him depends on the WHEN.

If I tell him bright and early when we leave our friends house near Sacramento (we live in Oregon so that's a halfway point) then I'm going to have him open a few gifts and ask where he thinks he could use them at:
Disney picture album
Disney autograph book w/ pen
a few pins for trading
YES I'd be video taping that!

But, if we just get up and drive south (but he'd think we're driving north back to Oregon)....then I'd just drive and see how close to DL we get before he realizes what is going on. THAT is harder to get on video though.

We too are going to surprise our kiddos in July with our first trip to DL!
We always tell them in advance about our WDW trips and always have a countdown calendar..hope I can keep it a secret! :scared1:

Our neighbors are planning on going as well and surprising their DS(7)!
Well overnight in NM probably and on day 2 of driving ill have goody bags for them as well as a " I'm going to DL" shirt!

A least your wait time isn't as long as ours! ;)

My DD's first trip was a birthday surprise. I wrote a little story and had it laminated and bound and wrapped it for her to open at her b-day party for the last gift. I read it to her after she opened it in front of all our family. It was about a princess named Dakota (that's DS's name) who always dreamed of going to Disneyland to meet the other princesses. The story said that on Dakota's 5th birthday she received a book about going to Disneyland that told her she would actually be going. It was much more clever than it sounds and by "the end' DD realized the story was coming true and we told her we were leaving in 2 days. She was SOOO EXCITED!!! Our trip this year is a repeat - birthday surprise and I'm trying to figure out how to gift it to her again without her realizing it seems familiar. =)

Desiree your story made me all teary!!! Very sweet. I can imagine the excitement growing in your daughter when she 'realized'

We are surprising our two girls with DL in march. Ages 2and 5. We are telling them the morning the day before! We bought autograph books online and a friend is making them appliqué Minnie shirts!

FUN! I wonder if the 5yr old will get much sleep that night :-)

We surprised our girls twice, the first time we just drove to DL and they had no idea until we were at the hotel, in our room and I gave them the trip packet with our tickets and all the other goodies in it. lol That was hilarious. The next time we did a scavenger hunt around the house, I gave them clues which lead them all around finding other clues, the final clue lead them to the "buried treasure" which was the trip packet. That time they recognized the packet so they were excited as soon as they opened that up. Surprising them is super fun and I would not change how we did it either time!! :)

We are surprising our oldest DD that will be turning 8 at the end of Feb with a trip to DL just a few days after her birthday. She has no idea that we have it all planned, we were just there in October and planning on returning in September, but she doesnt know about this coming trip... I dont know if we will tell her the night before or just wake her up early that morning to leave for airport....

I am taking my dd (8) to Disneyland and MR Disney Cruise at the end of March. She has no idea. My husband and son are staying home, so it's been easier to keep it a secret. I think I might do it in parts. Pick her up at school with her suitcase and give her a card to read that says we're going to Disneyland. Then give her a card two days later on the day we get on the cruise telling her about the cruise. And then finally give her a card on the last day of the cruise telling her that we're going back to Disney for a day.

Hopefully we can keep it a secret!

We're surprising our kids at September - first trip for our 3 year old and 2nd for the 7 and 10 year old. They think we're going to our usual spot in Queensland (Australia), the plan is not to let on any differently until we're checking in at the international terminal, not the domestic. Not sure if my eldest will work it out before then or not.

How fun!! We enjoy surprising our kids with trips to Disney too! It's always fun to think up new ways to surprise them. We surprised our kids on Thanksgiving Day this past year and that was so much fun! They didn't realize all the bags in the back of the car were their luggage :lmao: and when we got to the airport, my daughter kept saying OMG over and over. There's nothing like a fun surprise to keep life exciting!!

We are also surprising our 7 and 3 year old DDs for our trip in March. We aren't telling them until the day we leave. We are flying out of Seattle and the girls think we're going to Great Wolf Lodge for Spring Break, just as we have the past 2 years. The best part about it is that their favourite cousins and parents will also be coming with us!

For those who are interested, we are going to print off fake boarding passes and give it to them the morning we leave. You can do it through this cool website and it even gives you an option of choosing which Airline company you're flying with to make it more authentic. (I don't have enough posts to post the link but google "fake airline ticket at musicairport.com.)

I know our 3 year old won't get it but our oldest and their cousins will definitely clue in!

Only about 8 weeks to go - can't wait!!! :cool1:

My son has been begging to go to Great Wolf lately because he heard a friend talk about a magic wand that you point at red lights or something?
I just can't justify the price..it's priced for 4ppl but it's just my son and myself. Now...Disneyland I can totally justify hahaha

We surprised our kids with a DLR trip right after school let out in 2009. We spent the Saturday before talking about what we wanted to do for Memorial Day and cleaning up our house and planning some fun stuff to do. Hung out on Sunday and went to Church and secretly packed the suitcases. Woke them up at 4:30 am asking if they wanted to go to Disneyland today for our fun activity! Our DS 9 (then 7) asked us over and over again if this was for real or if we were tricking him! It was awesome!

We are going to surprise our 2 youngest kids with a day at DLR in Feb. We will be in So. Cal. for some family stuff and are planning a trip in March (2.5 weeks later) which they know about. We were going to get AP's in March, but have decided to get them a little earlier and go to DLR for one day. I'm so excited! We're not really telling our DS 15 about the AP's either, so he'll probably also be surprised.

My sister and brother-in-law took their kids to DLR a couple of years ago, too and totally surprised them. They packed their stuff and put them in the car and told them they were going on vacation, just not where they were going, and drove. They drove from Utah to California without their kids really wondering where they were going. They asked every once in a while, but DSIS and DBIL just told them it was a surprise and they'd know when they got there. It wasn't until they pulled into their hotel across the street from DLR that any of the kids figured it out. They have 4 kids ranging in age (at the time) from 10 to 4. It was awesome!
