Well, me and my mom are going to WDW!!!!! She has never been, so I am so excited that we will be going together! Anyway, the only way I got her to agree to go was the free dining (she loves to eat!LOL) Anyway, I priced it for Pop Century, and gave her the price, which she agreed to. Here is my problem, I think I would rather upgrade to POFQ, and it would be $120.00 more for EACH of us. She says it is not worth it, and that we will only be sleeping at the hotel anyway. My DH says we should upgrade, that we won't like Pop, and with it being 2 adults, POFQ would be alot better. We will be staying 4 nites, and we were going to rent a fridge at Pop, so really we would be paying an extra $25.00/ nite each. How do I convince my mom that it is worth it. She never stays in really nice hotels, so I think sge would be o.k. with Pop, but I think we would both like POFQ better. Or, if I cannot convince her, what will I like about Pop? Will I be terribly dissapointed? I usually stay in mid-higer range hotels... I do not like a Motel 6, for example. And how is the bus service for each of these hotels? Is one better than the other? I have stayed at Ft. Wliderness (had a car), and the Swan (absolutley loved it). If anyone has any ideas or advice, I would love to hear/read it!! LOL!!! Thanks so much! :cool1:

Maybe you should surprise her with the upgrade/move over to POFQ. If she likes it well enough, she might offer to reimburse you for the extra cost, but don't plan on it happening. :)

Well POFQ I think (i have never stayed here) has a boat directly to downtown disney. Does she like to shop? And if she likes to eat, tell her how convenient that would be as well. Also, calculate the difference once you add in the refrigerator. After that, it may not seem like a big upgrade to her. Have fun!

I've never stayed at POP, so I can't comment on it. We usually are able to stay in Deluxes. One trip we stayed at POFQ we loved it. Beforehand, I worried that I would not like a Moderate, but that was not the case. The themeing is beautiful, the resort is not too big and it just "felt" nice.
Hope this helps.

If you can afford it I would make the upgrade a gift. But I always stay at the deluxe level and it is sooooo worth it to us.

If you really want to stay at POFQ, pay for your Mom's difference in price. I think she will really enjoy her stay more at POFQ. This would be a nice suprise for her. It's a gift for her. You'll be happier at POFQ and I think your mom will be happier at POFQ too.

Weighing in here. It's just the two of us - my husband and myself. We've stayed at Pop a couple of times due to monitary restrictions. Loved it. We both finally were employed (for a few months anyway!) so I treated us to Port Orleans French Quarter for Fourth of July. As much as I loved Pop, I was blown away by French Quarter. I had never stayed here before - one of about three Disney resorts I hadn't stayed at. We've got ressies at Caribbean Beach for Labor Day and I really want to switch to French Quarter. I think your mother would prefer the smaller resort size and just the elegance of the place. Pop is great and she'd probably like the references to the decades past (we love them) but I'd gladly go to French Quarter over Pop if you can swing it financially.

Definately switch to POFQ if able to. FQ is small and quaint. The boat ride to DTD is so convenient. The carriage rides are charming. FQ has a lounge and hot tub and you are able to use all amenities at Riverside. Fridges are already in the room as well as blow dryer, iron and ironing board.

If you're able to pay for her, do so. Take a look at all of the photos of FQ. Your Mom will be delighted with it. :sunny:

Hi:

If you are going to spend some time at the resort, definitely switch.

Do you think you can afford the $120, if so go for it. your mom will love it.

I need shade sitting around a pool, from trees and I am not sure if there is alot of shade at pop century pool, but there are a ton of trees at the french quarter or riverside.

We went to the french quarter two years ago and just loved it, the rooms are decorated so pretty, you feel like a queen. The beds will probably be more comfortable as well.

Deb.

Plus if I'm not mistaken you would already have a refrigerator in the room at POFQ. We are staying there on our next trip and that was a big bonus for us. Last time we stayed at ASMo and it reminded me (in size only) of a Motel 6. The room was very small but we were only there for 4 nights so it wasn't too bad (next trip will be 7 nights so we knew we would want a bit more space). As far as the decor and theme of the Value resorts I thought they were great!!! I am glad Disney offers something for those of us that can't always splurge on a deluxe or even a moderated for that matter. I think it is great that they make the Disney experience available for most everyone!

I stayed at POR(Riverside) the last time we came, and it was very nice. We are going to stay at POFQ this time in November. We loved POR , it was nice and clean, etc...
I am like you, I do not like motel 6, etc... So for that reason I have never stayed at values. They are decorated very cute, but we need more space.

I haven't been to Pop Century but I do stay at The All Stars quite often.
I really like the All Stars and hate it when people compare the values with a Motel 6. They are much nicer than any Motel 6 I have seen. They have beautiful pools -- Yes more than 1 pool. They have a great food court with a nice variety of selections, a nice gift shop and a pool bar. I have yet to find a Motel 6 that offers anything close to that.
Plus I haven't even mentioned those giant icons which I love!
I may be 55 but I'm a big kid at heart.
As for POFQ I have heard very nice things about it and if you are willing to pay the price difference and your Mom does not object then by all means follow your heart.
Have a great time.

Only 69 more days :goodvibes

I've stayed at both and they are both nice in their own way. However, since its just you and your mom, I think POFQ would be more to your liking. It is smaller and quieter. It is very noisy at POP. Lots of kids, especially in the pools and at the food court. I found the rooms there to be nice but very noisy as well. From an adult standpoint, I think she would really love POFQ. Plus POP is so spread out, depending on where your room is, you may have to walk quite a distance to get to the buses and food court. :flower:

I agree with some of the other posters that if you have the money then you should pay for your mom's upgrade. But if you don't have the money, just enjoy POP. We stayed there before and it is a fun resort. I personally would pick it over POFQ because I'm from New Orleans and the last thing I want to see on my vacation is my home town, lol.

Just thought i would add if you can afford the $240 then go ahead without the expectation of being paid back. I agree if you will be just sleeping in the room then save the $240 for something like a super nice dinner at the Cali Grill or Ohana during the fireworks - maybe see if you can get an Illuminations cruise or go to La Nouba? or do one of the MK tours. I think you will like either place but ultimately the decision is yours.. Vacation is what you make it. Michelle

I agree with some of the other poster, if you can affor the extra $120 ,splurge and treat her to it !!! If it's a once in a lifetime trip for her, I would go with paying the extra money,I think as an adult she would prefer the POFQ over the kid oriented POP !!! :flower:

My daughter and I have stayed at both. I think you'll be happy either place. We stay at POP mainly for the price - we like to spend money on other things ;) . The bus service is better at POP and I've never encountered a noise problem, but we go during the slow season. I did love the boat ride to DTD at POFQ.

I agree...you have to gift the difference. Since the only way you convinced her to go is by using the free dining plan, she might not be able to afford it! If you truly want to upgrade, surprise your Mom...she's the only one you've got! ::MickeyMo

Agree 100% :flower:

My mom and I actually stayed at POFQ a few years ago on a "girls only" trip and had a great time. I haven't stayed at Pop though. I thought POFQ was really great! Have a great trip whatever you decide.
