So, you know how Norway used to be a sit down buffet? Like you order an entree and then order another one? Well, when DH and I (and kids) visited in December, I missed the memo that it changed! We ordered our 2 (very large) entrees and the waiter only looked at us "a little" strange when we put in the 2nd one. We could barely finish the first. And just took a few bites of the second and pushed the food around a bit. I was so embarrassed and was just reminded of it on another thread! Don't make my mistake!:rotfl2:

I'm confused...or maybe the menu on AllEars isn't up to date. Were you supposed to just order one entree that everyon at the table shares, or does each person choose which entree he/she would like? :confused3

Breakfast is served family style (one plate for the whole table). Lunch and dinner everyone picks their own entree. It includes a cold buffet with some meats and cheeses and salads for an appitizer and dessert is a trio of tastey desserts served family style to the table.

Akershus (back when it was good, before the princesses invaded) used to be a regular buffet.

Then it changed to a cold "appetizer" buffet and you could order unlimited entrees from the menu.

How would that even happen when the meal is a fixed price per person?

It was basically just a spin on a standard buffet. A standard buffet basically lets you go up and get multiple appetizers, entrées, an desserts for a set price, right? Well, Norway used to let you go up to the "Cold Table" and get all the cold dishes you would like. You would then order any entrée you wanted and it would be brought. It was a smaller portion then usual. When you were done eating it you could just order another. It was no extra charge for additional entrées.

It is the same as finishing a piece of chicken at Crystal Palace (entrée 1) and going back to get a piece of salmon (entrée 2). Only in this case instead of walking up to get it the server brings it to you.

Then, they added the princesses and screwed it all up.

I'm confused even if it was still the way you described it use to be why would you order a 2nd entree if you could barely finish your first because you were full?

Yep, this is how I thought it still was!:rotfl:

We put in the second order shortly after we got the first. But we both really wanted to try the other entree so we might've done it anyway, who knows. You know, first meal at Disney, eye's bigger than your stomach.

I've been confused about this also. Mainly cause I'm a big boy and get pretty hungry. So.......it is just one entree per person that is a pretty proprtionate size? Are you still able to get a second entree if you really are just that hungry (or if you just don't like the first one)?

The way it is now is there is a cold buffet plus an entree that you order. Oh, and they bring you some dessert that has apples in it. If you are adventurous, you can totally stuff yourself on the buffet. If you could just pay $15 for the buffet or something, we totally would've eaten there again that trip. Its good.

If the dessert variety is served family style, how will the handle it when I dine there solo?

You'll just get the dessert to yourself! :goodvibes Its apple something, I can't remember what. My DD5 and DH are allergic to apples, so they weren't going to bring us anything (I forgot to call ahead with the allergy)! Then they just brought her some ice cream and let me have the delicious apple whatever.

Nanu don't feel embarassed. On the scale of stupid things people do at WDW you have nothing to worry about. :earsboy:

We miss the good old days in Akershus too :).

Did they charge you extra?

Thankfully no! After the waiter gave me a kind of weird look I used the iphone to look up the restaurant and realized NO WHERE it said about the sit down buffet thing anymore. I then panicked they were going to charge us double or something, but thankfully nothing. It just said on our receipt our normal entree, and then "re-order" and the new entree.
