We had planned on driving from Saskatchewan to Florida but DH chicken'd out and has decided it would be better to fly! LOL Don't get me wrong, I understand it would have been a long trip but we were also going to get to see places we haven't been. He was thinking it over and he decided that if we flew it would probably work out to be the same cost wise when you factor in the extra 4-6 days he would need off of work, the gas, meals and hotel stays. So we booked with United and got our airfare for $2235.00. As a trade off though, we are going to stay an extra day! :cool1:

Good for you, I know you'll all have a great time! On our first trip to WDW I was remarking at how relaxing it all was when our kids simply said, "No driving, and no, gotta get to xxxx tonight because we have reservations!" I had no idea those driving "vacations" were so stressful on my family. If it's more than 1000 km, we automatically fly.:)

It would be cheaper to fly from the US. Not sure how close you are to the boarder.

This year I spent $500 CAN. for my niece and I to fly to Orlando and back with a direct flight. Usually, I don't fly direct and I get a lower price. This year the prices were high on the cheaper airlines.

Being in Saskatchewan, going to a US airport isn't always a practical thing to do. Our nearest airports are Minot and Fargo in ND (4 & 8 hours from Regina) or Minneapolis which is about 13 hours. The prices from Minot don't differ much from home. Fargo has Alligiant and if you can get a $39 or $69 fare it would be worth it if you don't mind flying into Sanford airport. We have driven and flown from MSP before. We would probably do it again sometime but that is 2+ full days of driving round trip. So our reality is paying higher prices for airfare or spending days driving to a US airport. Yes we are close to the US but the closet major city is still a lonnnggg ways way.

canadianmommyof2, I hope you have a great trip! :thumbsup2 Are you getting in on Free Dining?

We are Driving to Minneapolis and flying out of there. It is a 13 hour drive but it is Not a big deal for us. We drive to Jasper Alberta a fair amount and its about the same distance. The Flight to Orlando from Minneapolis is only about 5 hours. 13 hours in a van with 3 kids and a MIL to us is alot easier then a flight/stopovers that last about 21 hours in a plane and airport that you can't really stretch your legs and stop at your convinence. All that and the bonus part is we are not telling our kids we are going to WDW they think our Family Vacation is a Trip to "White Castle" (as we don't have one in Canada )and the Mall of America we are not telling them are waiting to see how long it takes for them to figure out where we are going :lmao: Our flight to MCO stops in Chicago so we were planning on telling them we are going to Chicago to See The bears lol! We think they will at the very earliest figure it out at take off out of Chicago when they announce we are going to Orlando. Then it will be a lets figure out if they know Orlando = WDW :lmao:

Thanks! We are doing the Free Dining, this is the first time for us...we were on the dining plan in Nov. and it was great except for the fact we didn't realize that you had to make ADR for TS meals so we ended up using all of our TS credits for CS meals. It sucked but this time I'm prepared (thanks to Disboards) and we have all of our TS meals booked. One sour note that we just found out about, DD's first day of Gr. 1 is the day we are flying home so she is going to miss the first day of school! We just got the calendar sent home and school is starting earlier than last year for some reason...:rolleyes1DH is looking into switching our flights but if it is going to cost a lot to change them then we won't. :duck:

For us the closest US airport would be 9 hours away so DH wouldn't go for that. I really wanted to drive but I see his point so we will fly and enjoy our wonderful family vacation without the 4 - 6 days of driving. :thumbsup2

We used to drive 13 hours straight to visit family in BC every year so driving isn't too bad for us...DH just thought that the 4 -6 extra days he needed off from work would really add up and we could actually do it for around the same price if we flew but then instead of the 30 hours each way we could fly and save time. Our flight down with Delta is 6h 36 mins and return is 9h 10 mins because of a 3h layover in Minneapolis. We are also surprising our kids with this trip...I'm going to pack our suitcases after they go to bed and the next day we are going to tell them we are going out and head to the airport. We are going to give them clues to where we are going along the way and hopefully the flight attendants won't spoil it and ask them if they are going to WDW when we get on our flight to MCO. Just keeping it a surprise till the morning of our flight will be shock enough for them, they are only 4 & 6 so they will be excited either way. We told them that we wouldn't be able to do a trip this year because I was having 4 wisdom teeth removed during the time that we usually take our family trip so they won't even see it coming.
