Sorry if its been asked b4 but I thought I read something about it not returning this year
But my fingers are crossed that will return :wizard:

Hi,

No word that they aren't....

The last couple of years the dates have been announced no earlier than July.

Hmmmm, well ^^ he seems like he would know better than probably where I read it from, so I guess we'll have to wait for July to know for sure! ;)

easywdw reported that it looked like they would be returning based on the schedule changes to HS in November. So I'm definitely hopeful:)

That's funny you posted this cause I just did some research earlier today, since I also heard rumors that last year would be the last time they'll be up. I looked up the last date shown on the November events calendar (Nov. 18 ) and it does show that they will be there!!! Select 'events and tours' after looking up park hours for Hollywood Studios on Nov. 18 on the MDE app. One of my favorite parts of going in Nov./Dec.!! I'd be so upset if they took them away!

I believe that Disney decided "yes" since the projects/expansion that would be taking up that space have been delayed.

Yes--they aren't going anywhere until Disney says they're going. What's been guessed so far has been only rumors, based on other rumors (CarsLand/SW Land at DHS) that have not come to pass.

I would be shocked if Disney just scrapped them given they have to have spent a fortune on the lights over the last few years. I don't think any of the original lights are left. The more static ones have all been changed over to LED lights. The ones that "dance" (change colors to pretty much any color to the music) are RGB lights which are very, very expensive (even in bulk). There are thousands of RGB lights just in the canopy thing that is over the side street. If they were planning to get rid of them, I don't think they would have invested that much in new lights. They may have to move them or change the display as the park evolves (that already happened once when they build Lights, Motors, Action and lost residential street) but I'm pretty sure they would find somewhere else to display them.

We can never be "sure" when it comes to Disney...after all they didn't move Mickey & Minnie's houses to anywhere new :(

of course with Disney you can never be sure until there is an announcement, but since it appears there will be no construction at DHS this year, there should be lights there as usual.

True .... but they also didn't just spend a bunch of money on refurbishing them and then immediately tear them down.

The RGB LED lights they are now using are pricey. They also are setup to control EACH light which is even more expensive. That is how they do all the cool patterns in that canopy. I can't see any business spending millions (I don't know actual numbers but it has to be up there just based on what this type of stuff costs) to update an attraction they intend to scrap in a year or two. I haven't been there in a couple years, but from the videos I've seen from last year they have been adding more RGB's every year.

I see that the DHS hours have now been extended from 7pm to now 8pm from Nov 7th forward. I *assume* that will be the first night that the lights will start since it is also the first MVMCP at MK. Now if Nov 7th is the first night of the Osborne Lights and the MVMCP how crowded are the lights usually on the opening night? We have never seen the lights before so not sure what to expect. It would be easiest for my schedule to be there on opening night but if it will be horrible I can reschedule for Saturday or Sunday instead.

Thanks for any help!

I don't think the crowds will be different enough for you to rearrange your schedule over.

If you want to see the lights with the lightest crowds, don't go when they first turn them on in the evening. OK it's cool to see that, but skip it if you don't like crowds. Give everybody some time to filter out and then go in. They will leave the lights on for awhile after official park closing so you can hang if you are already there.

I may be bucking the trend, but we enjoy going at Lights' opening and standing amongst huge throngs with a clearly audible "ahhhhh" when the show begins. We like to cruise slowly among the effects and side streets, so crowds don't matter. It is truly a unique experience found only at DisneyWorld and I have no doubt it would be moved, not ended, if and when construction calls....
