Can anyone advise me what type snowblower (single versus two stage) snowblower you would suggest for someone in pretty good physical shape, , mid 70's.....He insists that he needs one to clear a driveway (one car wide by about 25') and sidewalk area, (60' long by 3-4' wide).
I am thinking that maybe electric would be better so he is not pulling a cord like on a lawnmower???
I have NO idea what to look for but know I do not want some Huge thing for him and also do not really want to go above $500..he has a garage so no storage issue really. ...ANY suggestions really appreciated! TIA!

I know this isn't what you asked, but I would try to convince him to let you help pay for a snow clearing service. I do a lot of the snow blowing/shoveling in my house (we do have a plow come and do our 200 ft driveway) and it's a really physically draining activity...and I'm in my early 40's.

I SO agree with you.....and there are companies that guarantee that if X" of snow falls, they show up....BUT he is VERY stubborn AND if "we" do not get this done correctly FOR him, he'll just do it on his own....he called to ask me if he should get one on Craigslist!????!!! () So, you can tell what I am dealing with here :confused3

5HP two stage with electric start would be my recomendation.

I can so relate to this. My mom is widowed and in her late 60's and refuses to let anyone help her clear the snow. This year she decided she needed a snowblower. We were at the mall this weekend, stopped into Sears, and she bought one.

You might try Sears, they really talk you through the process.

She bought a Craftsman 2 stage with an electric start.
