~Snowbird Chat 2~

Hi everyone! I am SO far behind, but just wanted to pop in and say hello. We've had a very busy month but things are finally starting to slow down. I hope everyone is doing well. Things are great around here! Cole is almost 5 months old!!! :scared1: Time is just flying by and I want to hit the pause button!!!!

Quick question for everyone....what are your kids going to be for Halloween?? We're definately not big Halloween people around here, but I love seeing all the kids in their cute costumes. Madison is being Princess Leia (still loving Star Wars) and Cole is being Buzz Lightyear. The Princess Leia costume was my little sister's and my mom made it. She looks so cute in it!!

My kids are to old to dress up... but last year I dressed up as Cinderella to hand out candy... honestly it freaked out the kids so I won't do that again....:rotfl:

My kids will be dressing up!
Sarah is going as Hermione Granger from Harry Potter and Paige is a ladybug. Can you believe - no Disney costumes?

Dave and I dressed as Mouseketeers for a Halloween party on Saturday. I didn't take any pictures, but I'm sure someone did. If I can get my hands on them, I'll post.

We are not even doing halloween this year..my kids are really getting to big (the boys anyway,) and dd just doesnt care about it...I might make them some treat baskets or something, but we have so much going on right now, and I am loathing the thought of an expensive costume when we are about to head to vacation!!!! We have never pushed it, just let them dress up if they wanted for fun and hit a few friends houses for candy....

Ok,...for my trip,...I still need to decide where we are gonna go for dinner on the last Fri/sat nights. We need to sit down as a family and go over what plans we have and see if we want to do a TS repeat, or something diff for that last part....by the end of the trip, we usually are more relaxed and just kinda go/do whatever we want to repeat. I have all the toiletries and meds packed, getting the kids swimsuits picked today...it's finally too cold in our pool now to swim. Will pack snax this week and next Monday, the box will be shipped!!!!! Getting luggage out today:yay:
Will verify dates with dogsitter today too,...
Got the kids to work on their Christmas lists this week...gonna make the AG order today or tomorrow,...want to have that here before we go in case something is backordered...
Hopefully we will clean/cover the pool this Saturday.. which is when I can start stalking Accuweather!!!

The kids were freaked out by Cinderella?! That is nuts!

Madison started reading the Harry Potter books about mid-September and she is already on the 4th one! After she finishes a book, we all watch that movie together as a family. We already owned the 1st and 2nd movie, but I had only seen the 1st one. For her birthday, she got movies 3-6!!! She also bought the 7th book with a gift card she got for her birthday. Once she's done with book 4, we'll have to borrow books 5 and 6 from my aunt (she let her borrow books 1-4). She said she'll be Hermione for Halloween when she's 11 since that's how old she is in the first book. :goodvibes

I wanted Tony and I to be Mouseketeers for MNSSHP last year, but he wouldn't go for it. He hates dressing up in costumes.

No Disney Halloween costumes here either! Andrew is going to be a Transformer-Optimus Prime. Emily wants to be a ballerina which is great because I don't even have to buy anything for it. She already has a leotard she wears for dress ups that will do just fine. :thumbsup2

I'm officially at 6 weeks until we are on the road to Disney! :drive: I gave out my notice to my daycare families last week and Jason put in his notice for vacation time at work. I meet with Andrew's teacher next Thursday to talk with her about how she wants him to make up what he misses. It feels good to get things checked off my list.

Shawna- Hope DS is starting to settle into school and it becomes a little less intimidating for him. Your trip is SO close!!!!

Meghan- I can't believe Cole is almost 5 months already! I love that Madison is reading all the HP books! Most kids would skip the books and just watch the movies.

Sarah is reading the HP books and we are watching the movies AFTER she reads them. I think she'll get some DVDs for Christmas (and more books!). I want to sit and watch them too - I have read three of the books and she's almost done with the fourth - I guess I'll get it when she's done!

We are hoping to see some HP "sights" while we're in London. They have tours, but I'm not spending the $$ for that. I can find a building or a train station by myself! I want to surprise her with the Platform 9 3/4 in the Underground station. There's a photo op there that would be cute!

I love it when we can use stuff we have for costumes. Paige has done that a few times - dance costumes from past recitals, princess dresses, etc. Sarah was a vampire two years in a row and I didn't have to buy anything!!!

Good morning Snowbirds!

I'm so far behind here!! Stupid work! :headache:

I've been trying to read along, just haven't had too much time to post. I hope all is well with all of you. Congrats on paying off the trip Kim! :goodvibes I've been praying for your DS Shawna. I'm sure that is a huge adjustment for all of you.

It's snowing here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::faint:

And our trick-or-treating is at 4:00 today. :sad2: Good grief! I'm not ready for snow! :headache:

hey girls...Shelly..we have missed you on here!!! Thank you so much for praying for him!! We appreciate it!! When I picked him up yesterday, he was so much happier and in a better mood than he has been all week...he said he had a better day. He has been going to enrichment (tutoring after school) every day with the Science teacher, she told him yesterday to have just been in her class for a week,He had made great progress.:worship: Thank the Lord!!! We do block schedule, so he has only had the class 3 days, then the 4 days of enrichment....we are gonna work on the previous chapters this weekend and just see if that helps too...next week will be enrichment for Geometry:teacher:...that's the other killer at this point! It ain't easy!!:rotfl:
Well, we are hopefully gonna be able to cover the pool today...,clean & blow off the backporch and that will all be ready for vacation.I am sooo ready! I think we may go ahead and get a hotel room the night before so we don't have to get up so early..especially since ds15 will be worn out from school that week!! Next Sat a friend of mine wants to have a garage sale..I have just a few big things I need to get rid of-like a headboard, big bags of ds12s Legos he doesn't play with anymore, just a few things, but it will give me some extra $$$ !!!
We will finish our homeschool semester in a couple of weeks!! Just in time for Disney!!! I gotta order some Christmas presents today...want it taken care of before we leave....
Hope y'all have a great weekend!!! And happy trick-or-treating!!!

well...we didn't get the pool done today...dh got up with his back sore, so we looked at new matresses today..I told him over a year ago that I thought this pillow top was killing his back, and sure enough--it is,..so now we are back to switching around sleeping in the kids beds' the next few nights til we can get something new! So, I am spending this evening cleaning out my closet and storage bins in there in case my friend does her garage sale Sat...holy cow! i found several almost new Vera Bradley bags in there! If any of y'all have need of one let me know! I can't believe I have that many! :rotfl: A couple were promo's and the others I just am tired of the print, but I have been very serious over the last year about really purging...I have never been a pack rat ,by no means!! But I find the older I get, the less stuff I can even stand stored in a bin inside my closet!!!! And plus, if I don't see it, i ain't gonna use it!!! So,...I will finish this closet and be one day closer to Disney!!!!!! Mike and the kids are at the office doing 'woodwork'...what a way to spend an evening right?!! LOL!! Typical mom stuff I guess!

Can you pm me some details on your VBs?

Ww waited too long to get a new mattress and our backs were always sore. I feel your pain!

I sure will!! And I didn't notice how bad it was bothering us until my neck gave me some trouble last year...since then I notice if I sleep in a certain way on this matress it hurts or my back is weird when i get up...the kids beds are great...so we kick them out and take theirs! LOL..but they love our bed still so it works out!

I hope snykymom is doing okay - my parents and my brother (and his family) have been without power since the snowstorm hit them on Saturday. Neither of them have an ETA for regaining power. My brother got 16+ inches of snow - eek!

Man, Michigan is looking like a great place to live this year!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Hope everyone is doing well (and safe and shoveled out :headache:). I'm not ready for that to start yet...

We got our MVMCP tickets this weekend. Also, we ordered the girls (17&13) $25 gift cards from the disney site that have Lion King and Toy Story, those also came, now just have to figure out how to give them to the girls.

I've considered trying to figure out if we could send them down early and have mousekeeping put them in the room with a little "note" from Mickey, but we'll probably just hand them to the girls :rotfl:. Much less work that way!

We also got my dad a Mickey Santa hat. He can pull off Santa REALLY well (white beard, "beer belly" as we affectionately call it here in WI).... and he loves wearing his Santa hat throughout the season, so he was like a child when he saw that!

Well I'm off to have a day with my Goddaughter and her siblings!!

Enjoy everyone!

Thanks for asking, Sarah! We only got 3 inches, but - you guessed it - we lost power on Saturday as well. We don't have it back yet, and our ETA is Wednesday night! 5 days after Irene, and now this! :headache: And this time, it's COLD! :cold: I guess we got tricked this Halloween!

Off to research generators . . .

You sure did!! My parents have been swapping their generator between their fridge and their freezer and bought a portable space heater, propane-operated, to try and keep them warm. Good luck!!

Wow - I guess I'm glad to be in MN!! We get lots of cold and snow, but we rarely lose power! I think it is because a lot of our power lines are underground.

I am listening to DIS radio and they are playing Wishes. The very first couple of notes, even before Julie Andrews starts talking, made me tear up! Man, I am such a Disney sap!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN SNOWBIRDS!!

Well, we got power back yesterday afternoon! Yay! Still looking for generators, though!

Because of all the branches down and all the power outages still going on, Halloween around here has been postponed to Thursday, Friday or Sunday, depending on where you live and how badly it got hit. Hope everyone else had a wonderful night!

This does not bode well for the rest of the winter . . .

snykymom - that's so sad!!! Postponing Halloween just sounds so wrong! Of course I think it's wrong to trick or treat on a different day anyway!
We've had a blizzard on Halloween (1991) and just ended up skipping it for the most part. We had a blizzard two Christmases ago and had about 10 inches of snow. We still celebrated it. Just a few less guests. then again, here we don't usually lose power and our roads get plowed pretty fast.

We had a good Halloween here - pretty nice weather for MN! No winter coats needed! My kids collected approximately 10 POUNDS of candy between them!!!! INSANE!
