~Snowbird Chat 2~

Holy Snowbird Babies!!! 4 babies :)

I have a friend their adopted their first from Korea last year and are in the middle of the process to bring their second home. He is such a sweet little boy.

Logan and I are definitely considering the possibility of adoption in the future. Right now it isn't a good fit for us.

I hear you on that! We are definately done...2 kids is perfect for us.

Mindy- poor Chase sounds like he needs full gear- helmet, knee pads, shoulder pads, mouthpiece...poor thing!!!!

"NOT IT!" here too!!!! Two is enough. We are DONE!

My daycare mom just called at 8:30 to let me know she's in labor! Her little guy should be making his appearance sometime soon. This is her third and I think she's crazy! I'm already counting the days until he starts daycare with me in August. It's so much more fun to enjoy them all day, send them home at 5:30 and be able to sleep through the night.

I have no idea how many kids I want to have. Right now the one super easy baby I have is a handful. Give me a few more years and we'll see how I feel about it.

I've been running numbers for a trip to Japan either this fall or next spring. It's crazy how expensive it is there. Originally, I was trying to convince Logan that we needed to stay in an actual "Disney" hotel, but now that I've added up most of the expenses, there's no way we'll be dropping the $300/night it would be to stay at one. I would consider staying just part of our stay in Tokyo in a Disney hotel and part somewhere else nearby, but I don't want to deal with not having a hotel room during the day more than I have to...and I want some money for food!

My weekend was a bit crazy. We're slowly working on fixing up the backyard and things didn't go so well yesterday. We ended up at the urgent care place for Jason to get 6 stitches above his eye. The comealong he was using to pull a tree flipped up and bit him. Thank goodness he had safety glasses on and it didn't get his eye. Maybe I should get him some protective gear too Mindy. We could order and combine shipping LOL.

I'm glad he's okay!! :goodvibes and that he was wearing safety glasses to make sure he's okay! :goodvibes

My coworkers are making me nuts. I think it has everything to do with the fact that I decided I didn't want coworkers on Facebook. I don't put anything on Facebook that I wouldn't say, on a corner with a megaphone, but it was just weird. So one of them stopped talking to me. :confused3 I think she's probably mad that I'm not asking her how she's doing/what's going on (I find out third hand what's up, which is ridiculous because she's the next office space over) but she never returns the favor. I am 34. Does this cr*p EVER stop?!

(another coworker has decided it doesn't matter when she works her 8 hour day, which isn't true. We're an academic unit, which means we're open specific hours and we need STAFF during that time. She's got to be there as much as I do)

...did I mention that I'm 27 days from Disney?!

...did I mention that my family is already making me nuts?! ;) The upcoming Disney trip is for my parents 40th anniversary, so it's them, us, my brother, his wife, their baby.
  1. Friday night, I asked my dad if he could forward me a copy of the car rental reservation we made, back over Thanksgiving. He had no idea what I was talking about and has no such records. I suspect that he deleted it, because at one point, my brother had talked my parents in to renting a mini-van for all 7 of us (!!). I pointed out that it was outrageously expensive and very limiting to only have 1 car for 7 people and everyone changed their mind buuuuuuuuuuuut.... to be honest, I don't recall what car company we used.
  2. So, Dad rebooked and we're now paying a much higher rate. Un-yay.
  3. Sunday night, my sister-in-law pitched a fit about our ADRs. Turns out, they're too late for my niece. That my niece's schedule cannot be messed with and that she must be in bed by 8pm, period. She's 9 months old. I have no idea if she's being realistic or not - I don't have kids. But, really? Sunday night is the first time this occurred to either her OR my brother? I then spent the next hour, calming my brother now, and rebooking our ADRs. How lucky did we get that we got what we wanted - earlier times, same restaurants?! :confused3
  4. This is why we needed two cars and not one minivan. I wonder if my brother and his wife thought about the fact that they'd be taking the bus back to put their baby to bed, since the rest of us don't need to be asleep by 8pm!

Because all of this isn't fun enough, my leg still hurts. After talking with my husband, my parents, my travel agent, the DISboards, and random friends... I have gone ahead and rented a wheelchair for the week. I am getting better, but even if my leg stops hurting in another week, I've been cautioned STRONGLY to not overdo it. This limits getting in shape in time for Disney (figure I've almost done no walking since November, with knee surgery, that winter, and my injury) as well as how much I can do in Disney. I'm not thrilled, but I think everyone will be happier.

Now I need to figure out how to decorate "my" wheelchair, to make it obvious it's MINE! ;)

hello ladies!! My dh is home, with his back out...he's been home laying down since Wed...yesterday we were back and forth with Drs appt...after 3 chiro visits....I think we got it lined out now...new meds and looooots of rest..poor guy. He can NOT sit in a chair and he can barely stand for 3 or 4 minutes...hes had to eat laying on his side, or on the floor on his knees!!!! Hopefully by Mon he will be back at work...he hates being stuck at home!! And I,of course, have hardly gotten anything done!! It's hard when you have an invalid!:rotfl: At least if it was a baby, I could carry it with me from room to room!!
Sarah...yeah, what's up with your bro and sil? didn't they know anytime before now that the baby is on a schedule? WOW....poor you!! this is why I do NOT do vacations outside my immediate family--you get to be the planner, then everyone complains when it's not quite what they wanted...Sheesh!!! Hopefully you will enjoy the wheelchair and be healed quickly!!!!!

Madison's last day is next Tuesday...I can't wait!

Cole is doing really well. He eats every 3 hours like clockwork! I have been getting some sleep, but I still wake up tired everyday.

Yay for CL at the Poly!

Can I just come and scream that I'M LEAVING FOR DISNEY IN TWO DAYS!!!!

I'm a little excited. I would bust out Disco Dale of he didn't freak me out so

House clean. Truck clean. Hitch basket attached.

Tomorrow I do laundry, shop for food, and finish packing.

8pm bedtime is normal, even on vacation, but she should have realized this 5 months ago when you made the ADRs. When I was planning our trip with Gideon I didn't make many evening ADRs, because even though he didn't have a set bedtime, I knew expecting him to be out past 8pm or so would be a stretch. Also, we were traveling alone, and not on the dining plan, so I could cancel at the last minute if need be.

Honestly, non-Disney addicts don't have vacations on their radar before a month or so in advance, so they probably didn't even give the ADRs you made a second thought until recently. That's part of the reason I never plan on going to Disney with extended family again. It's just too frustrating to plan everything way in advance, then have it change at the last minute, because the other people I'm traveling with don't understand the intricacies of planning a Disney vacation. I understand that even the most precisely planned vacations has its last minute changes, but I can go other places with my family, just not Disney.

My Mom is turning 50 the summer after we're supposed to get back from Korea. I'm thinking about planning a family vacation to celebrate, but Disney isn't even an option in my mind. I'm thinking something simple like the beach.

Sarah - I'm sorry for all your stressors. My thinking is that if you are the parent of a small child and going on vacation with others, you have to be the one to tell others of the limitations and you have to be the one to plan for those limitations. i.e. - she should get their own car and pay for it, she should have said, we need to eat earlier. Of course, I'm bad mommy. We have no schedule (really didn't when they were little either) when we're on vacation. Bedtimes are non-existent. Dinner times are random. It's usually no more than a week. Kids can adjust unless they have special needs.

Lecture over.

Shelly - I said it on your PTR - but CONGRATS on booking CL!

Mindy - hope your little guys are okay and you have a GREAT trip!!!

Shawna - Sorry about Mike's back. Give him our best wishes for a speedy recovery!!

Meghan - glad to hear things are going well with Cole!!

Our girls finished school on Thursday - they did awesome!! Great report cards. I'm one proud mommy!
Last night Sarah had a softball game. The league plays where they have to play three innings, and games last one hour and 20 minutes. So the third inning ended at one hour and 17 minutes. Which means they were allowed to play another inning. Of course we were ahead, so we didn't care, but the other team wanted to continue. Really, with three minutes? So we had to play a WHOLE inning. Well, Sarah got to pitch the fourth inning and she was
amazing!! She gave up two walks, but struck out three batters to end the game!! We still won! She was so excited - today she said - my whole team high-fived me!

Oh and one more thing -

NOT IT!!!
I'm too old anyway!!

Can I just come and scream that I'M LEAVING FOR DISNEY IN TWO DAYS!!!!

Have fun! Say hi to Mickey, on behalf of ALL the Snowbirds!!

While my SIL isn't a Disney freak, my brother totally is. Plus, both of them were heavily involved in the reservation process! But in this case, I refused to get so wound up in where we were eating and when that I was willing to do whatever made the crowd happy. It's Disney - it's NOT life or death! ;)

Thank you! Of course, living so far from my brother's family, I don't know how they operate day to day... but like my mom said, they're still surprised that my niece doesn't act exactly how the books say she should. My mom says she keeps reminding them that my niece did not read the books and doesn't know that she's supposed to act a certain way. Hahaha.

Oops, forgot to quote Shawna: Yeah, I mean, it just seems silly that they're all of a sudden "oh yeah, BABY!" Perhaps my brother is just a wide-eyed dreamer and my SIL hadn't given it enough thought before now?!

But after the vacation house mess with my in-laws last year (for the record, my husband and his brother are still barely speaking to one another) and this trip this year, I think I've bought enough karma on extended family trips for quite awhile! :thumbsup2

Does anyone else get the AllEars.net email? One of the shared reader tips was battery operated tea lights for the bathroom at night. I thought that was the most brilliant idea that I'd ever heard and promptly bought some from Amazon. It's GOT to be better than the bright light/noisy fan of the Disney hotel room bathrooms!

I'm also NOT IT...I'm older than Sheree, so if she's too old, then I'm too old. ;)

Mindy, have a great trip! Give Pluto a hug from me! Beware...Disco Dale still has a little time to show up to bid you farewell. :scared1:

Shelly, WOO HOO for upgrading to CL! :cool1: I'm trying to keep up with reading your PTR :surfweb:, but by the time I've read everything, I don't have time to post!

Sarah, you definitely have a huge credit in the karma bank! I love the idea of taking a WDW trip with my sister and her family, because I have fond memories of a trip with our cousins when we were young, but I wonder if the reality would be not quite how I picture it. :rolleyes1 I'm sure you made a wise decision about the wheelchair. Yes, you could do without it, but why? Better to have it available for when you want it.

Shawna, Kim, and Kim, hope your DHs are doing better. :grouphug:

Becca, how's Korea? Have you had a chance to get out and about much yet, or are you still settling in?

Meghan, glad to hear Cole is doing well! :goodvibes

Hope you all have a happy Disney day! ::MickeyMo

Kathy - We like it here. We've gone on walks in this area, but haven't been able to see any of the sights. We've been trying to get up to the mountain town that's not too far from here, but we haven't had time. We took the bus down to Yongsan in Seoul last Friday, because Logan had a doctor's appointment, but we only stayed the day and didn't leave base. The Dragon Hill Lodge has been completely booked since I got here. We want to stay down there at some point, so we can tour around Seoul for a weekend, but I have a feeling it won't open up until PCS season is over. We could stay in a different hotel down there, or just make it a day trip, but I want to stay at the Dragon Hill!

Other than that I've spent a little bit of time with some of the other wives. They do all sorts of crafty things, so I'm sure I'll be doing some of my own projects soon.

They just finished a whole new pool/splash park on post. It's really nice, but the one day we went the water was still too cold to do very much swimming with the baby. He was so weirded out by the whole thing, which is funny because I expect I won't be able to keep him away from it next summer. This summer, by the time the water warms up it will likely be too crowded for us to go with the baby much.

Good morning Snowbirds! :goodvibes

Just a quick drive by post to ask for some prayers.

One of my daycare kid's mom had a little boy yesterday morning. He is baby #3 for them and he delivered so quickly that he got fluid in his lungs during the delivery. He's not doing so well. He's in NICU receiving fluids and antibiotics and having trouble breathing. They are hoping it doesn't develop into pneumonia. It's so heartbreaking. Please keep their family in your thoughts and prayers.

I'll try and jump back on later to catch up! It's been crazy busy here!

You got 'em! Best of luck to the little one!! :goodvibes:goodvibes

Oh Meghan! He is too precious. I love his little monkey jammies!!

Lots of prayers coming your way, Kim. How scary for that family.

Decided to take tomorrow off. With Ry's allergy testing, I figured it would be better to stay close by in case of a reaction. More time for me to get done all of our trip preparations.

T minus 28 hours and counting.

Aww...poor baby! I hate it when babies get sick. It's the worst thing ever!

Meghan - He's so adorable! I can just picture him in a few years with Madison's huge toothless grin! I LOVE it.

BTW...I am on Facebook and would love keeping up with you there (or anybody else I'm not friends with yet) my link is www.facebook.com/becca.johnsonfoster

Kim...poor little guy, we will pray for him,....keep us posted!
Dh is much, much better,..still on anti-inflams and a muscle relaxer at night....he is much relieved! That was quite a round he had this time...I think when he started to get a bit better last week he just overdid it and it got worse than the first time.
Meghan,....how are you feeling? he is adoooooraaaaable!!!!
