~Snowbird Chat 2~

Hello everyone! Warm day here, which I love!! This morning we did our 1 ADR that we know for sure we want to do, Crystal Palace Friday Dec. 9 at 8:25am.

We are also considering doing the Fantasmic Package. Now we can do lunch with that too, right, not just dinner?

We also booked airfare last night. Airtran from Milwaukee to Orlando and back for $310/person. Which is really good for us. Also had great flight times. Leaving MKE at 7:45am arriving in MCO 11:29am (non-stop). Leave MCO 6:10pm in MKE at 8:03pm (non-stop). So we are happy with that.

That means that we have our rooms completely taken care of, just 2 more payments to our DVC dude, plus our first night at Pop Century is booked. Got our ADR for a time we wanted. Got our flights. Just need to do park tickets, MVMCP, and Fantasmic!

AHHHH!!! I'm so ready to go!

I have never seen Fantasmic! One of these days we should give it a go. We've never really stayed in the parks after bed time. Just once when Matt needed a Disney break, I took Ry back after dark. This year, he and I are going to catch Wishes at least once.

Doing my single digit dance!!! Hoping my boys feel better soon. Ry is still an astmas mess. 5 days now. Chase is stuffy and sneezing. I think we need to get out of central pennsylvania to escape all of the pollen.

Four weeks and six days left for me!

I can count the weeks on one hand, now!!

I have already started gathering stuff. I have 7 disposable rain ponchos for the 2 of us for 6 days. I hope that's enough. I've also found the sunblock, the bag I use in the park, and my baseball caps. The important stuff? :confused3

Anyone else who has gone in the summer: did you take a portable fan (misting or not misting)? Was it at all useful?

And my leg finally doesn't hurt as much - woohoo!!

So glad that your leg is feeling better, Sarah!!

We are taking Misty Mates along this trip. They are nice and small. I think I read here in the dis that they had a similar mister at Target's dollar spot.

We took tiny fans from Wal-mart last summer. Two that you could put a bit of water in (Like 1/4 cup!) and two that were just fans. Both were handy, clipped onto belt loops and since they were small, it was not a bother to have them.
We never needed the ponchos- just ducked inside if there was rain (there wasn't much- usually just lightning that closed the pools or it rained overnight).

I would suggest bringing some blister block, or blister bandaids or powder. Plus a couple different pairs of shoes. I ended up wearing TEVA mush flip flops most of the time b/c it was so dang hot anything that covered my feet drove me nuts.
Sarah - I'm sure you have to wear good shoes to walk in though.

Don't forget the sunglasses!!

I didn't. I just took a water bottle that I refilled with ice and water regularly throughout the day.

hello ladies!!! We are home from our summer vacation!! We don't usually travel in summer...but as soon as DD's ballet recital was over, DH wanted to go to Colorado(in case you forgot!), so we left on Mem day and came back Sat...it was a great trip!! We saw snow, did lots of mountain driving, and we just really relaxed and saw whatever we wanted, when we wanted. Totally foreign to me since Disney is a planned day by day,...but it was nice to take off a little pressure that comes with ADR times and such. it was perfect weather up there...but back home, noooot so good. Wed or Thur the little tiny town right north of us was the hottest town in the NATION!!! Can you believe that?!! It was either 108 or 109....needless to say, we came home to quite a few scorched plants. Hoping they were rooted enough to come back, but not so sure....Yesterday was a good day--we got a WOPPER of a storm super high winds, drenching rain and even hail. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! we haven't had that for months!!!!!!!
So....I am caught up on all the news I think...
I got a haircut today,...it had gotten quite long,(for me) think long bob, grown out...and I cut it all off,...sorta short and shaggy.....it's a tiny tad shorter than what I was thinking, but it'll be perfect in about a month,...and with this extreme heat, who can stand all that hair anyway? Hope ya'll have a good rest of the week..enjoy your summer breaks!!!!!! We are doing nothing else this month but pool time, laundry, and tv!!! LOL!

Mindy- Get Ry out of this pollen and head south until you hit Disney to alleviate his asthma! :thumbsup2

Red- Your plans are all coming together!!!! Almost time! Fantasmic is on my list for our next trip too. It rained last trip and we decided not to sit in the monsoon getting soaked.

Sarah- Glad your leg is feeling better- take it easy for the next 4 weeks so it doesn't give you any trouble before the trip.

Shawna- Welcome home! Sounds like you had a nice relaxing trip! I got my hair but shorter than usual too and it turned out that I actually like it shorter now.

Well my ticker disappeared again. :faint: :scared1:

We were talking this weekend about camping at FW and decided against it. It's such a long way to pull a heavy camper and the risks of something happening to the van while towing that far are too high. I'm not too disappointed though. Camping at FW would have been a fun adventure but I am spoiled by staying at a resort. :goodvibes

Now we are back to square one with dates...but definitely staying at CBR whenever it DOES happen. I'm pushing for this November but DH doesn't want to commit to that just yet. He should have enough vacation time built up by then and both he and Andrew would only miss 4 days of work/school. He's thinking more like next May but Andrew would miss more school then. Who knows!!!! maybe we'll end up being January Snowbirds for the third time. All I know is.... I miss Disney and want to go back!!!!

Shawna! Welcome home! Sounds like you had a great vacation. I visited Colorado once long ago and it was breathtaking.

Kim-I would imagine it would be hard to go back to camping when you are spoiled by a resort. Honestly, I am not a fan of camping at all. Dirt and bugs and being sweaty . . . Oh, and walking to the bathroom. LOL

I am actually pulling down the suitcases today. For real this time. I need to see what I have and what I need. I think Chase is going to need some more clothes. More shorts, at least.

I just learned that we'll have DH's niece stowing away with us on the way home. Excited to have her come home with us.

Yup. I have an ADR for 1:30 or so.

Enjoy the planning!

Thank you!! We love Fantasmic! We've sat through some rather cold nights there, but still completely worth it to us!

Shawna - Welcome back. Glad you had a great time!!

:lmao: I don't camp either. We used to tent camp and I've had enough of that. Now I'm spoiled. We have a camper that we call our hotel on wheels. It has a queen bed for us, bunks for the kids, kitchen, and most importantly a potty and shower. I don't even know if that's technically camping but it's all you're getting me to do these days.

Get packing!!!!

I can only wear sneakers. :( I have checked out every kind of sandals known to mankind and they're just not going to give me what sneakers can. When my earthy-crunchy hippie-dippy massage therapist (the type who walks around barefoot) even says that I have no option but sneakers, I know I'm DOOMED. (Unless I'm in a wheelchair, then I can wear whatever - woohoo?)

But I bought this stuff: Body Glide which ought to help, some.... for feet, for legs.

Thanks for the information, all! I think I'll go buy a small fan for our trip. :) And sunblock for lips, as my husband wasn't smart enough (men!) to wear a hat nor any sunblock for his half marathon this past Sunday. It was SUNNY and HOT, which are great triggers for cold sores, which he now has flaring up. (Did I say "men!" yet?)

Hey Shawna - I'm glad you had fun!!
It was the hottest in the nation HERE yesterday!!!! We rarely get above 100 - maybe every 5 - 10 years!!! But we did it yesterday! On Monday it was hot and humid. Sarah had a ball game and we were just melting! Yesterday it was more like a blast furnace - windy and HOT! I'm so glad that doesn't happen often. Now they say tomorrow will only be around 70! how bizarre!

Kim - I'm sorry you have to change your plans again! January is still a great time to go! I'm sure you'll keep us posted.

I'm actually going tent camping in August with my kids and girlfriends. We've gone in June for the last couple years but always had storms cut it short. So we're trying August. It's going to be hot! The good thing is it will give me a good excuse to skip my HS reunion which I don't want to attend anyway!

Sarah...as far as sneakers...my fave is always Nike...they just support my feet and legs better than any others I have ever had-I have a very high arch, so most dont work for me like the Nike's do...and my kids all wear'em too! Some times New Balance is good, but not as good as the other! Hope you are 100% better in the next few weeks!!!!

Mindy...PACK!!! you are killing me!!! LOL..glad your niece can come stay with you and play with your kids! That'll be fun!

Kim-I know this change of plans is probably making you crazy!!! But it'll all be worked out before you know it!!

Red--I thought about you while we were there, didn't you say your grandparents lived over there? It was great,...a very relaxed trip!! And the mountains are gorgeous,...I have never seen anything like it!

Sheree~ How strange!! Hottest day in Texas one week and Minn. the next!!!! That's just weird isn't it? It's pretty hot here again...but the humidity is still lower than normal, so that's good. Hope the rest of your week is cooler! And there is NO way I would camp in a tent in August!! It would be like sleeping in an oven down here!!

We tried tent camping in the back yard a couple of years ago. DH left around 11 pm to go back into the house (his back was killing him). That left me and my then 4 yo out in the tent. At that time, there was a peeping Tom roaming the neighborhood from time to time and I got freaked out. DH was watching us from the window the entire time but still. That was our last attempt. Definitely the closest I will ever come to camping.

Ok, still not packed, although I did attempt I pulled together much of what will be needed as far as toiletries go. I stocked up on plenty of clothes for all of us. I even found the cutest Tiki swim trunks and rash guard for Chase at Gymboree. Nothing more fitting for the Poly. It was on sale, too.

Lots to do around the house this weekend and next week. I can't leave a dirty house so everything needs a thorough cleaning. All bedding will need to be washed because I love crawling into clean sheets. Matt's niece will be taking over Ry's room. She's 19,'somi hope
She doesn't mind the plethora of Legos and other boy stuff LOL

Sarah-I stopped by Target today and saw the Misters that they have. I actually licked an extra one up. It is identical to the Misters that I paid $15 for. $2.50 was the price tag.

Aww thanks!:flower3:

Yep my father's side of the family are out in CO. I absolutely love it out there. It's the one place where we never actually "plan" anything. We just wake up and decide what we want to do that day. There's nothing quite like waking up and seeing mountains, or watching the sunset beyond the peaks :cloud9:.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up! I need to get over there, soon, anyway.

I tried to talk my parents into splitting a Kitchen Sink with me, when we go there. :confused3 The plan immediately fell apart when my dad said that he doesn't like things to "mix," I admitted that I don't like coffee ice cream, and the husband doesn't eat nuts.

Shawna, I do have some great sneakers for me. I am a flat footed overpronater with custom orthotics, and my current sneakers have the physical therapy team's seal of approval. Once I was told that I couldn't wear sandals, I went ahead and bought another pair, so I'll have two for the trip. I'll probably bring sandals for the resort time or the occasional time we go to dinner from the resort. It is what it is, though that makes me grumpy. ;)

Just the thought of the Kitchen Sink makes me queasy LOL. I love ice cream but I wouldn't have anyone to share it with. Neither of my boys love ice cream and DH just doesnt eat it :(

6 days until departure. Two days of work and lots of cleaning before we leave. My truck needs some TLC, too. Oh, and then there's all of that packing that I've yet to do. Time to get cracking.
