~Snowbird Chat 2~

Good morning Snowbirds! I hope everyone is surviving the wild weather alright. It's chilly and gray here, but thankfully nothing falling from the sky.

I've been keeping up with my DIS reading, but haven't posted much recently. Add me to the list of Birdies in a Disney funk! :sad2: One day last week I realized that it was two years ago that day that we had last left WDW. And we don't know when we'll be back. :sad1: But...we do have our park tickets! :upsidedow Yep, we had bought tickets for our Jan 09 trip back in the summer of '08, before the price increase. But then they announced the military ticket deal, so we went with that. So we've got four 7-day park hoppers (3 adult and 1 child) just waiting to be used. Thinking about that cheers me up a little! :)

DD is not at all potty trained. (stick with me, this will be Disney-related!) The other day I mentioned that when my sister was trying to get her youngest potty trained, she told her daughter that they couldn't go to Disneyland until she was done with diapers. That inspired my niece very swiftly! Good thing, too, because the trip was already planned. ;) Anyway, my DS10 siezed on that story, and has been encouraging DD to use the potty so we can go to Disneyland Paris. :yay: We've been talking about it but don't have any particular timeframe in mind. But apparently we're going once DD is out of diapers!

We were also talking the other day about the possibility of DH deploying to Afghanistan, probably a year from now for six months. (no idea how likely or not it is, but it's a possibility) I mentioned to the kids that if he went there, we would probably all get annual passes to DLP, because that is somewhere I would take the kids without DH. (not that he doesn't like to go, but we've all been there so he wouldn't be missing out on something new if we went without him...plus it's somewhere that I would feel comfortable going without him) That made the idea of DH being gone a little more palatable to the kids (OK, and me ;) ) So we'll see what the future holds.

Sarah, I hope you don't have any trouble getting on your way, and have a FABULOUS trip! Can't wait to hear all about it! :cool1: We are looking very seriously at a Baltic cruise this August, but the price is just killing me (especially when I think of how many WEEKS at WDW it would cover!). Please tell me it would be so worth it!

Have a happy Disney day, everyone! :goodvibes

Well, flights are going from Detroit to Orlando no problem, now, so I'm not too concerned! Delta reminded me to check in, about a half an hour ago, so I'm ready. Except for that packing thing.

I told my friend that I'm still trying to figure out what to pack for bottoms:
-I will wear jeans down. I may not wear them again until we come back!
-A pair of capris
-A pair of shorts
Stuck on: another pair of shorts? Or a skort (full skirt over shorts)? Both?

She suggested I take 2 pairs of jeans, to the normally humid Caribbean! :confused3

We booked our Baltic cruise a year in advance. It was worth it because we paid SO MUCH LESS than everyone else. But keep in mind a cruise covers 3 meals a day on sea days, 2 meals a day on port days, your lodging and your transportation! The only city you MUST make arrangements in advance for is St. Petersburg! It is also the easiest way to see some of those cities.

My brother, a psuedo-travel snob of the "I will never cruise EVER" variety, decided he wanted to meet us for a day, last summer, in one of the cities. He eventually gave up in defeat, saying "It's not easy to get there!" Well, duh. :)

So that's part of it. If you're looking at an Amsterdam/Copenhagen ship stops, then it's not worth it. Those are pretty easy to get to, from continental Europe. Stockholm, Helsinki, Talinn, St. Petersburg... not so easy!

SARAH!!! It's almost here!! I know you cant wait!! And YES!!! Please start packing!! You are killing me!!!:rotfl:

SARAH!!! It's almost here!! I know you cant wait!! And YES!!! Please start packing!! You are killing me!!!:rotfl:

WELL everything is in a pile. All my shirts, underthings, swimsuits, sweater, jacket, entertainment and jeans, capris, two pairs of shorts, and a skort. I just need to put them in the suitcase.

Suggestions on what to take or not take?
Tomorrow: Flying down; will wear jeans. Probably changing to capris or maybe shorts, but it's "only" supposed to be near 80
Saturday & Sunday: 70ish - jeans or capris.
Monday: Nassau - shorts
Tuesday: Castaway Cay (bathing suit!)
Wednesday: day at sea
Thursday: fly home, jeans

So maybe I do only need one pair of shorts after all? :confused3 The skort is good because they have the functionality of shorts but it's got the full skirt wraparound which helps make it dinner appropriate! (Plus it's almost knee length, too)

3.5hrs of work left!

I would be completely OVERPACKED!!!! lol...

So we've been home 5 or 6 days... and we still have disney unpacking to do... I've been in my Disney Depression (I think- that's what I am blaming).

I do need to write a highlight report... as it may (or may not help) me, and I know I have alot to share.

Maybe this weekend I'll get some focus and be able to get started reporting some details to you all!

Hey Snowbirds!!!

I too just got back and had a great time!! Looks like I have two trips planned one short one for the end of April/May and then a longer (Can't believe 2 weeks at the end of May/June) If it works out and there is a cancelation (I'm on a waiting list) I might be going on a Disney Cruise (now that's a whole new ball game UGHH)

I too have noticed that airfare is quite high, thankfully I signed up for the SW CC this trip and will have a round trip ticket because the airfare for May/June is quite high (does anyone know if any deals will come out or if I have already missed them??) I just need my arrival flight for April/May but even that seems quite high also...UGH!!!

Hi birdies! I've been reading, but SO busy at work!!!
I hope you have a great trip Sarah!!! You know I'm counting on you for lots of information!!!

One thing I really want to know is if they run the evening shows two or three times per night.

Shawna- I've got the same sinus crap/cold going on. My head constantly hurts. Oy.
We missed the big blizzardapocolypse. YAY!

I'll be chatting more later!

Sheree.. you have got to take Echinacea! it is so great! When I have the sinus stuff bad, I take up to 6 a day...2 pills 3 times a day...and also take a Goldenseal once or twice a day depending on how bad you feel and how much of an infection you have. That and ibuprofen if my throat hurts is all I have done this time and I feel sooo much better...not all tired and exhausted or achy like I usually feel. Then when I am past this cold season I take one Echinacea a day when I know things are budding/pollenating. So..thats some free medical advice for today!! LOL..... Hope you get better soon!!!

Sarah!! You better get packing! IT'S TIME!!! Have a great trip!

Packed!! Packed! :) I even remembered to pack a baseball cap for each of us (and shorts) into our carry on, so we can change when we get there. I can't think of anything major I'm forgetting!

We have *assigned* show times. We're at the 8:30 dinner. Our assigned showtime is the 7pm one.

Anyway, more information to come in a week. Fingers crossed for, well, smooth sailing in terms of house-airport-flight!

Have a great cruise Sarah!!

WOOT WOOT Well Snowbirds, this Texan has no school today!! I will try to post a picture later of the amount of snow it takes to cancel school here in Texas...I'm sure you ladies from the North would get a good laugh!! Until then I'm going to try to go back to sleep and then get in a good workout today!!!

TGIF!! I love the end of the week! My DH is home all weekend, which is a great thing.. We'll be celebrating my nephew's 14th birthday on Sunday. He's a huge Steelers fan. Hope they pull out a win for him.

I am suffering the same sinus infection, sore throat ickies! But I can't take echniacea! I have an immune mediated disease that when you take immune boosters is increases the disease symptoms as well! I never knew this until this year (after many doctors appt and a confirmed diagnosis). Wow I am surprised I revealed that. I do keep so much to myself...
My point being, be careful with the immune boosters...

Whew! I'm exhausted this week. I've had 7 daycare kids and worked 11 hour days all week. I had a new baby start full time this week and a 2 yr old little boy that will be with me for drop in care through the 17th. I was so worried starting two new to daycare kids on the same day. Things could have turned out MUCH worse. It's been a loooong busy but relatively good week. I need a vacation now.

Jason's dad is doing so-so these days. What they thought was pneumonia over Christmas they now think is cancer in his lungs. His oncologist suggested that they start considering hospice. He's been in and out each week for fluids and blood transfusions. It's so sad to see a man that was so active be so frustrated that his body is giving out on him.

One of my daycare moms is pregnant with baby #3 and is having complications. She's only 5 months along and they don't think the baby's kidneys are functioning correctly. I'm praying it's nothing too major but it's very scary for her.

So as you can tell it's been a stressful week! Everything is piling up- housework, paperwork for work, online courses, family worries, volunteer hours for my credentialing, AHHHHH :scared1: I started with a migraine yesterday but was able to fight it off with excedrine thankfully. I don't think I'm stressed but then my body lets me know that I am. I need a trip to Disney!!!!!!!

Okay done whining now. Thanks for the shoulder to lean on. :flower3:

On the positive side- my new washer and dryer are FABULOUS!!! And with the extra income from my new infant and drop in boy, we can pay it off! :woohoo:

I've been watchin both AT and SW in hopes that the fares come down. Here is no way I'm willing to pay $2k to fly from Harrisburg to MCO. We've been able to fly for $200/pp in the past. We are perfectly content to drive if it means saving $1500. Sick thing is, I kind of enjoy the drive. Call me sentimental. It reminds memof the many driving trips down as a kid. Nothing says Disney like seeing all of the South of The Border signs.
:lmao: We love the South of the Border signs on the way down but they annoy the heck out of me on the way back! :headache:

Is it ridiculous that I haven't wanted to get on here the last few days? I'm guessing it's because we don't have a definate trip planned?! Who knows! I guess it's the post-Disney depression setting in. Even though we are penciling in a trip next Jan or Feb, who knows what could happen between now and then!

Well the meteorologists were way off with the warnings in our area. Blizzard warnings and Storm of the Century references...we were supposed to het 1/2 inch of ice and 6-12 inches of snow from Mon to Wed. I went to work (unlike most people in my office Monday, drove home in the rain-no big deal. Woke up Tues and debated, went ahead and called out because MoDOT was saying Stay Home (who was I to argue). A few minutes later I could hear the ice hitting the windows and it went on all day! but barely any snow!! When we measured, it looks like about 3 inches if ice with about 1/2 inch snow on top of it. We haven't left the house since I got home Mon eve. Schools out for Drew again, which surprised me sincethey don't have busses. His last day is May 25, but we'll see what it's gonna be now!
Pencil in that next trip- it will help ease the pain. Can't wait to hear your trip details when you're ready.

Just leave it packed for the next trip. ;)

Almost forgot to tell everyone that's sick to feel better soon. It's going around here too and I'm trying my best to avoid it.

Trying to get the nerve to do a mini-TR, but in the meantime, i'll give a brief synopsis:

Loved Pop as much as always! Had REALLY good luck with buses the entire trip, maybe waited 10 minutes 2 or 3 times, but mostly made it there at exactly the right time. I mean, it seriously was laughable how lucky we were.

It was darn cold. Didn't matter what shirts I packed because you couldn't see any of them in pictures. We re-wore pants alot. I was unprepared (ok, I was in denial that it would be that cold). Drew still swam twice!!

Great TS meals, mediocre QS meals (just not a big fan-didn't get to try WPE as planned). Tried a few new adult beverages (that's where my souvie money went) but the fave is still the Grey Goose slush!

Will give more details later, but it was a fabulous trip, the best so far!

Week one of craziness is over! I survived!!

Still have lots of running to do - but wanted to comment.
I would love airfare for 114 each way!!! It's over 300 RT for us. Therefore, we will be driving! HA!

Cold is much better - Just a sore nose and a bit of residual crud.

Girl scout cookies on sale here today!! Sarah's running around the neighborhood this morning and I have over 100 CASES of cookies in my garage. I'm the cookie mom for our troop.

Next weekend is my scrapbooking getaway so I'll be AWOL from Thursday eve - Sunday. So I'm trying to organize my pictures so I'm ready to work. I seem to not have about 4 months worth of 2007. Yeah, I'm that far behind!!!

We actually broke freezing yesterday!!! It was sunny too. Too bad I was stuck inside for most of it!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!

Andrew started with a low temp this afternoon. He's so bummed we had to cancel a playdate with his friend. I have used the day wisely and cleaned the whole house, then finished up my online courses and got in another 2 hours of my volunteering from home doing projects for my local daycare resource center. It feels good to be caught up! Now I'm debating whether or not to go grocery shopping tonight instead of tomorrow. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
