Snow to 80 in 8 days–A spoonful of Holiday Cheer (2/5 update Ch 36 - Final Thoughts)

I had already loosely planned our itinerary for the trip and used the Online Dining Reservation site to grab some initial ADRs. I plan to go through those again and modify them, possibly removing some and adding some others but a few I remember are ones some of you have been talking about a lot lately that we haven't tried. Some of those are Biergarten, Character Meal at Garden Grill, breakfast ADRs at Boma and Kona Cafe (big kahuna and tonga toast), a lunch ressie at Le Cellier (okay a repeat, but when you can get a ressie here why not), a return trip to 50s PTC and a pre park-opening breakfast ADR at Crystal Palace.

LeCellier -- a favorite; we've not done Garden Grill since the kids were really young; Love Boma and Crystal Palace; haven't done 50s again since the kids were much younger and I believe it was the last time my mother went with us so it's been a very long time (depending on which way you look at it ;) ); we missed Kona last year and cannot wait to try it this year.

I have to admit we were very disappointed in Biergarten last September. Although we've always enjoyed it in the past, it seemed a little bland this past trip and I was very upset that they did not have veal for the schnitzel; it was chicken schnitzel:eek: and very dried out at that (and we had the first seating). The desserts, however, were terrific.

Those are some fantastic ADR's for your summer trip (some of my faves)!! Also like the idea of staying in DTD then moving over the SSR to save points. We did something similar several years when we couldn't get the Poly for the dates we wanted - we stayed in DTD a couple of more nights than planned, but then booked a great Poly room.:thumbsup2

Speaking of DTD Disney resorts, I would be remiss in not taking the opportunity to offer my usual bedbug caution. All kidding aside, Disney may have it's share of those critter issues, but some of the DTD hotels have had even worse problems. Be sure to check the bedbug registry and your room/s very carefully!!

Okay..off my favorite soapbox....:thumbsup2

(p.s. You are most definitely a terrific storyteller! :goodvibes)

He actually got his orders when he graduated. He is in Virginia right now checking out apartments to rent. Hopefully he finds something he likes. I am heading up with him next week to get him all moved and settled in. He reports to the base for duty the first weekend of June, which is when we were originally heading to Disney, so if I hadn't changed the trip dates I wouldn't have been able to go help him out as much as I will now.

Will try and post updated info on the trip later today......

where in Virginia is your son at? My step son and his family are living in Virginia beach. He is (was) stationed at Norfolk most of the time, although for awhile he was at little creek. I say "was" because in a matter of days he'll be officially retired. He's thinking of moving back here this summer and going back to school, but he's also looking into civilian jobs with the military....so we'll see

Okay, here is the next installment of the Contest. It will take multiple TR updates to cover our DHS day, so there will probably be two or maybe three related sets of contest questions! There are lots of pictures from this day, so it just depends on where I have to divide up the day to stay under the 25 images limit.

Don't try and read too much into the wording I used. I tried really hard to word questions so as not to insinuate the answers to some of the other ones.

Okay...I did in that super secret white that you described

I'll put in my guesses here- in white.
How many of us made rope drop for our DHS day? (At least one did, but not all)

Hmmm.... tricky, tricky.. and one I'll probably get wrong. But I'm gonna with all of you.

How far from the rope was Marv when they took it down? (how many people back)

I'm gonna say you put in a very respectful DISer showing RIGHT UP FRONT!

Who showed up for the Pre-Opening show? (performers that is)

Flavio Fellini and Vladamir Pooey

What was the first set of Fastpasses that were collected?

TSM

Did any of the Marvali clan ride Toy Story Midway Mania standby first thing that morning?

Yes

For the first ride on RnR, was the Standby line or Single Rider line used?

Single Rider

What were the first four rides done that morning, in order? (checking everyone's touring guide knowledge)

TSM, RnRC, ToT, TSM

Who among my DISfriends (and I use that term loosely) got the first picture tribute at DHS?

Rosie. It was her hot Italian.

Who scored the highest points in the Marvali clan on the first TSMM ride of the day?

Andrew

Who scored the lowest?

Ali

I'm sure your new plan is going to work out great- glad you caught it before penalty. But not really understanding the whole DVC thang, from what I get out of your post, it didn't matter anyway. Right?

Ok, here are my answers, as requested in white:

How many of us made rope drop for our DHS day? (At least one did, but not all)

Two: you and Drew

How far from the rope was Marv when they took it down? (how many people back)

I am certain that you did very well, so I will say: one person back!

Who showed up for the Pre-Opening show? (performers that is)

That's difficult. Perhaps they did something different for Christmas? So I will say Santa.

What was the first set of Fastpasses that were collected?

If you made the effort to get there that early, it has to be TSMM!

Did any of the Marvali clan ride Toy Story Midway Mania standby first thing that morning?

Yes of course, the two people that were at the park for rope drop!

For the first ride on RnR, was the Standby line or Single Rider line used?

Standby, you really wanted to ride together.

What were the first four rides done that morning, in order? (checking everyone's touring guide knowledge)

TSMM, RnRC, ToT and then?? GMR possibly...

Who among my DISfriends (and I use that term loosely) got the first picture tribute at DHS?

Glenn, for the FP picture!

Who scored the highest points in the Marvali clan on the first TSMM ride of the day?

Drew, I have great trust in the little one who is so good at soccer!

Who scored the lowest?

Ok, maybe I ought to revise my above answer because I have only two people in the park at that time, so it must be you... But I guess I will stick with that. Not because I don't have any trust in your abilities, but because I am afraid that your boys are the demographic which is best at computer games and that's exactly what TSMM is...

I think your revised trip plans sound great! We tried Biergarten for the first time in January. We enjoyed it a lot and were glad we tried it once but I don't think it will be on our repeat list. We love Le Cellier and try to go every trip so I would have snagged that one too! I have to say that the Garden Grill character meal is one of the best kept secrets at WDW especially for those with little kids. The food is good, the setting is cool and the character interaction is amazing! All four characters came around twice during our meal and spent time with us both times. Good choice in repeating 50's PTC and how can you go wrong with a before park opening ADR at CP!

I am going to try my hand at your contest for the first time! Let's hope I don't embarrass myself like I did trying to beat Glenn to a movie quote and answering wrong - LOL!

How many of us made rope drop for our DHS day? (At least one did, but not all) three

How far from the rope was Marv when they took it down? (how many people back) first cause you bullied your way to the front!

Who showed up for the Pre-Opening show? (performers that is)
Hmmm - the hollywood movie crew?

What was the first set of Fastpasses that were collected?
TSM

Did any of the Marvali clan ride Toy Story Midway Mania standby first thing that morning? Yes!

For the first ride on RnR, was the Standby line or Single Rider line used?
single rider

What were the first four rides done that morning, in order? (checking everyone's touring guide knowledge)
TSM, RNR, TOT, back to TSM

Who among my DISfriends (and I use that term loosely) got the first picture tribute at DHS? Kathy?

Who scored the highest points in the Marvali clan on the first TSMM ride of the day? Drew

Who scored the lowest? Alison

How many of us made rope drop for our DHS day? (At least one did, but not all) Three

How far from the rope was Marv when they took it down? (how many people back) 6, Marv would never push his way to the front.

Who showed up for the Pre-Opening show? (performers that is) Dorma Nesmond, Vladimir Pooey, and Page Turner.

What was the first set of Fastpasses that were collected?

Toy Story Mania

Did any of the Marvali clan ride Toy Story Midway Mania standby first thing that morning?

No

For the first ride on RnR, was the Standby line or Single Rider line used?

Single Rider line.

What were the first four rides done that morning, in order? (checking everyone's touring guide knowledge)

Rock N Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania, Great Movie Ride

Who among my DISfriends (and I use that term loosely) got the first picture tribute at DHS?

I'm certain it wasn't me. :rotfl: I'll guess Kathy.

Who scored the highest points in the Marvali clan on the first TSMM ride of the day?

Marv.

Who scored the lowest?Marv. I figure since you're the only one I know is in the park, it's a good guess.

Answers above in super secret white. :)

Ok, I've made my answers in super-secret inviso-text below:

How many of us made rope drop for our DHS day? (At least one did, but not all) 3: you, Ali, and Drew. The college kids slept in.

How far from the rope was Marv when they took it down? (how many people back) I'll go with 1 person between you and the rope.

Who showed up for the Pre-Opening show? (performers that is) Some of the Streetmosphere performers whose names I couldn't recall if my life depended on it.

What was the first set of Fastpasses that were collected? Toy Story Mania. You don't go to Rope Drop unless you're doing the TSMM March.

Did any of the Marvali clan ride Toy Story Midway Mania standby first thing that morning?

Yes. Like a true DISer, you grabbed fastpasses and then immediately got in line.

For the first ride on RnR, was the Standby line or Single Rider line used?

We'll go with single-rider, since you may not have put on deodorant that morning.

What were the first four rides done that morning, in order? (checking everyone's touring guide knowledge)
TSMM, ToT, RnR, then back to TSMM to use your FastPasses

Who among my DISfriends (and I use that term loosely) got the first picture tribute at DHS?

I'll say Rosie, since infamous pictures of her seem to pop up frequently.

Who scored the highest points in the Marvali clan on the first TSMM ride of the day?

Drew! Youth wins!

Who scored the lowest?

Ali. But she couldn't have cared less about the results, either.

How many of us made rope drop for our DHS day? (At least one did, but not all)

I say three of you...you, Ali and Drew.

How far from the rope was Marv when they took it down? (how many people back)

Oh, you had your hiney right up there at the front!

Who showed up for the Pre-Opening show? (performers that is)

Besides you, Ali and Drew? I'm going to say Steven Tyler form Aerosmith ;). I have no idea!

What was the first set of Fastpasses that were collected?

Hmm, I want to say TSM.

Did any of the Marvali clan ride Toy Story Midway Mania standby first thing that morning?

Nope. You got FP's only.

For the first ride on RnR, was the Standby line or Single Rider line used?

Stand by and you grabbed FP's too!

What were the first four rides done that morning, in order? (checking everyone's touring guide knowledge)

RnR, ToT, TSM and Backlot Tour

Who among my DISfriends (and I use that term loosely) got the first picture tribute at DHS?

I'm going to say Jen, with a Canadian thumbs up!

Who scored the highest points in the Marvali clan on the first TSMM ride of the day?

You because you're just that good!

Who scored the lowest?

Ali scored the lowest probably because you kept elbowing her repeatedly while you played and screwed up her aim!

Okey-dokey, there are my answers. Though I'm not holding out much hope since I seem to fail miserably every time I play, sniffle sniffle!:sad1: And in case that statement failed to stir any compassion or pity, let me just say that you are one handsome devil! That Ali is one lucky lady, that's right!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:That is carrying the "suck up" to new levels !!!!:lmao::lmao:
Okay Marv not only is Ali one lucky lady with a handsome devil like you ,you are also a GENIUS, super athletic mmmm what else can I invent :goodvibes:lmao::lmao::lmao:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:That is carrying the "suck up" to new levels !!!!:lmao::lmao:

Rosie, I have to do what I can! I think my score is actually negative now so every little suck up, er I mean point, helps!:thumbsup2

Okay Marv not only is Ali one lucky lady with a handsome devil like you ,you are also a GENIUS, super athletic mmmm what else can I invent :goodvibes:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Now you've got it Rosie! Soon you and I will be just swimming in all those extra bonus points. Just you wait and see.:thumbsup2

How many of us made rope drop for our DHS day? (At least one did, but not all)

I will say 4. I'm thinking you and the boys made it and Ali slept in and met up with you later.

How far from the rope was Marv when they took it down? (how many people back)

I think a couple pushy stroller families got ahead of you.

Who showed up for the Pre-Opening show? (performers that is)

I've only ever seen the green army men :confused3

What was the first set of Fastpasses that were collected?

Toy story mania

Did any of the Marvali clan ride Toy Story Midway Mania standby first thing that morning?

Yep

For the first ride on RnR, was the Standby line or Single Rider line used?

Single rider

What were the first four rides done that morning, in order? (checking everyone's touring guide knowledge)

Hmmmm...I know what ours usually are, but I already guessed that you went standby on toy story.

Well, I will contradict mt earlier guess and say you got fp for toy story then rode rnr coaster, followed by tower of terror, then great movie ride on your way back over to use your toy story fp.

Who among my DISfriends (and I use that term loosely) got the first picture tribute at DHS?

Glenn....with a fp pic

Who scored the highest points in the Marvali clan on the first TSMM ride of the day?

I'm blanking on the older two boys names, but I will say high score went to son #2

Who scored the lowest?

Low score goes ironically, to son #1 who, with his military background was too confident in his shooting skills and quickly learned his training wasn't on virtual darts or ring toss

Here is my latest futile attempt to score some points. Do I at least get one for using super secret white text??

 for the summer pre-trip update!

Sounds like you did pretty well with your ADRs! You even got Le Cellier!! I am so looking forward to hear about your experience at Biergarten. Will that be lunch or dinner? Katharina and I had it on our list, but couldn't really justify an ADR there since there are so many other more unique (for us) places at WDW.
This trip we won't be on the DDP, so fewer dinner ADRs. Most days when we are in a DVC one bedroom with the kitchen, we will stock up items for a quick breakfast in the room, then do a lunch ADR with either something lighter in the evening or something easy to prepare back in the room. We will have one day where we do lunch at The Plaza in MK, so a possible dinner ADR that evening somewhere. Still making adjustments as I firm up our touring plans. :thumbsup2

Certainly understand your trade-off with Biergarten! I'm sure you can find at least one or two authentic restaurants locally when you are at home.... ;)
I am LOVING your TR!!!:cool1: Just started reading it, and hope to be all caught soon!
:welcome: Jen!!!!
Great to have you along! I checked out some of your 40th BD TR. Happy belated birthday, and how cool to be a former CM!!! That is some changes in location bouncing back and forth between the North and Florida like that. Talk about major weather differences......... And :woohoo: for Tom, another Disney loving Engineer!!!
Still fine tuning the ADRs, so some changes will probably occur. I'm still trying to decide between breakfast at Boma or Kona Cafe for our departure day on the 4th. As of yesterday, there are still some amazing ADR options still available for most of our days! I'm guessing a lot of people are still concerned about the travel $$, or trying to cut down where they can and aren't planning to dine out so much.
I've heard a lot of comments lately about the schnitzel. For now, as I make changes, Biergarten could still be one dining option we put off until a future trip. Maybe they will have the veal back by then.... :)
That won't take......never mind, I'll be nice, Marv. ;)
Only you Kathy!!! (well, and maybe Rosie......and Molly.....and.......)
I actually considered with the discount rates staying somewhere like The Poly, or maybe CSR or even The Swalphin. I plan to keep an eye out for any additional discounts and may still make a switch before the trip rolls around.

Thanks for the heads up! We typically have things along with us to sanitize if needed.
(p.s. You are most definitely a terrific storyteller! :goodvibes)
Aww, so sweet!
where in Virginia is your son at? My step son and his family are living in Virginia beach. He is (was) stationed at Norfolk most of the time, although for awhile he was at little creek. I say "was" because in a matter of days he'll be officially retired. He's thinking of moving back here this summer and going back to school, but he's also looking into civilian jobs with the military....so we'll see
We will be moving him into an apartment in Norfolk next week. He reports to the Naval Base sometime the weekend of June 4th (he has between the 4th and the 6th). He will have "orientation" classes about 3 weeks and then finally reports to his ship. He went up a couple days ago and checked out apartments and found one he likes, so hopefully the move in will go smoothly since he is already trying to take care of some things.

Rosie, I have to do what I can! I think my score is actually negative now so every little suck up, er I mean point, helps!:thumbsup2

Now you've got it Rosie! Soon you and I will be just swimming in all those extra bonus points. Just you wait and see.:thumbsup2

Yes we are the ROYALTY of Suck Up!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Okay Rosie is color blind !!!I answered in red !!!!:rotfl2:But if anyone is thinking I have a clue go right ahead and copy me , but I get bonus points for the first answere Marv red !!!!!:rotfl2:
I wouldn't count on it...... :sad2:
I'm sure your new plan is going to work out great- glad you caught it before penalty. But not really understanding the whole DVC thang, from what I get out of your post, it didn't matter anyway. Right?
Yes, it actually did make a difference. When I had to change to SSR it was higher points and to get the whole trip I was actually 5 points over what I had, so I had to borrow 5 points from 2012. Once you borrow, you can't undo it by rule. That meant that when June 2012 rolled around I would only have 195 of my 200 points to use for a trip. When I changed the DVC part of my reservation and shortened it by two days, I saved 66 points which were returned to my 2011 account, which I can now "bank" into 2012 and have 261 points available to use in 2012 instead of 195. If I had been within 30 days or less of my trip and done the same thing, the 66 points would have gone into a "holding" account, which means I would not be able to bank them into 2012 and would instead have to use them by May 31, 2012 on another trip (which probably isn't going to happen, or at least leaves very few options with only 66 points) or LOSE them altogether (unless I tried to dispose of them on the rent/sell board. Clear as mud now???
Thanks for the input! Still playing with the schedule and ADRs so I'm expecting some changes all around. Some may go, some will stay, others may be added...... :confused3
I am going to try my hand at your contest for the first time! Let's hope I don't embarrass myself like I did trying to beat Glenn to a movie quote and answering wrong - LOL!
Might not be a bad time to start. For those who have been reading along most of the answers should start to get a lot more predictable!
Wow you got those last two statements exactly right! Too bad they weren't part of the Contest questions.....
:rotfl2:That is carrying the "suck up" to new levels !!!!:lmao:
Okay Marv not only is Ali one lucky lady with a handsome devil like you ,you are also a GENIUS, super athletic mmmm what else can I invent :goodvibes:lmao:
That is the last time I make a crack about your age Rosie. You have become VERY perceptive with the years!!! :thumbsup2
Now you've got it Rosie! Soon you and I will be just swimming in all those extra bonus points. Just you wait and see.:thumbsup2
I think something is becoming deep enough to swim in, but it sure ain't bonus points!!!
Yes we are the ROYALTY of Suck Up!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:
You and Molly and Kathy are ROYAL somethings alright........ :rotfl2:

Marv, very noble effort to explain the holding account issue to Liesa. I am afraid that this is one thing that only is worth investing time into if you are a owner or think about becoming one. It is just soooo complicated. I am really glad that I finally understood what it means!! :goodvibes
