Snorkeling on Castaway Cay

Hello,

I am confused. I have seen it recommended that snorkel gear be a gift for kids. Which is was for ours. Now as I am looking over the excursions, one week away from being able to book, it says life floats are compulsory for all ages when snorkeling. If that is the case then are people brining their own life floats as well? It's not bad to rent for kids but adults must accompany them and then it gets expensive.

The life vests (inflatable) are free for use. In fact, everyone snorkeling must use them. Even if using your own equipment. Here's what they look like:

Thank you! That wasn't clear to me. I thought you only got them if you rented equipment which forced you into renting. Yeah!

Just a tip: in the snorkeling area look for the orange and white buoys. That's where the good stuff is. They are toward the back.
We used our own equipment but everyone has to wear a life vest.

The lifeguards are on the lookout as well for people snorkeling without the little yellow vest. It doesn't appear to be very well known that you have to have them because I have seen the lifeguards hand them out quite a bit. There may be a sign somewhere but I never noticed it.

They are free though as previously mentioned. We haven't snorkeled yet but it's definitely on the to do list!

You can bring your own if you have one. We have 1 for each member of the family and I know of at least 1 other family that does it also. Theres literally hundreds scattered around the snorkeling lagoon free for use if you did not bring your own. Even if you rent gear, the rental place will give you 1 for each member of the family.
