Going on the 4 day Wonder in July (first cruise) and I saw snorkel equipment at Costco and was trying to decide whether it would be worth it to buy it. We are probably going to go to Blue Lagoon in Nassau - and then be in Castaway Cay. Do they charge you to snorkel on CC course if you don't rent equipment from them?

I would say it is definitely worth it. Our first cruise, we rented snorkel gear at CC. We enjoyed it, and so on our second cruise, we decided to take our own.......we bought sets at Costco for about $25 per person...about the same cost as renting them at CC BTW. We were so happy we had our own set at CC this time. The gaskets are softer on our masks and do better at keeping water out, the fins have a small pad on the strap which makes it much more comfy (sounds weird, but true), and we know that no other mouth has touched our snorkel.

If you bring your own equipment, you can use their vests on CC free of charge.

Buy your own for all the reasons pal2pluto states, and for knowing that your germs are the only ones on there!

We took our own snorkel gear because the masks have prescription lenses in them (we snorkel alot), but if you are only doing Blue Lagoon and CC, I wouldn't bother taking along any fins. The water isn't rough enough to need them. Even our 8 and 12 yr olds did well without fins. I agree with the germ issue, by the way, although I'm sure Disney does a great job of disinfecting them.

I recently read that you can rent just fins for $9 from the booth at CC.

For me that might be easier than lugging fins all the way from NW Canada, but I am bringing my own mask and snorkel.

Have fun,
DL

Walmart has a complete set (fins, mask, snorkle) for $29 made by US Divers. Both the mask and snorkle have purge valves, and are good quality.

The package was easy to open and reclose in the store, so everthing could be tried on for fit.

we took stuff with us.
it was heavy
i think i would rent next time

But there are 6 of us...so if there is juts 2-3 it probably isn't too bad...

Well - my DH is saying he has no desire to go snorkeling...laying on the beach with a drink is more his style - so 1 set won't be too cumbersome..
Thanks for the replies!

We brought our own snorkle mask etc. We also rented a car at St. Martins. Went snorkleing at different beaches.
The one thing I would recommed is that you have life vest.
I boutht ours in St Thomas that had a dive shop. Before that we were packing the big old orange boat ones.
Do it you will not regreat it. Any wall mart will carry the blow up vest for children

It sounds like bringing your own is the way to go....Does anyone know if you can bring your own into Xcaret? Or do you have to rent their stuff?
