What are the best sneakers for a good ankle support?? I am looking to buy a new pair and I want the best kind...I have a weak ankle that starts to hurt if I stand too long on it and I need a really good pair of sneakers...Any information would be appreciated! :)

Thanks!

I am not really sure but MIL had ankle surgery years ago...and actually has to have a lift put on her shoes etc.....her ankles are really bad...and I believe it is New Balance that she buys.

Take a good look at New Balance. I have two sons who run. The one overpronates, which means that among other things he is more likely to turn his ankles. New Balance is what the dr. recommends. Do you plan on running or walking? If so go to a real running store, not a mall store. We go to Fleet Feet. Tell them your problem and they will watch you walk/run and analyze your foot and gate. If you have a high arch you are more likely to be an overpronater. Now, my son has tried alot of shoes, including the New Balance but he uses Aasics, right now the gel 2080. You are looking for a store that lists what a shoes strengths are and then look for one that says cushioned support.

BTW, NB was one of the narrowed down to choices, Model 1121. That is what I ordered and they have been great. Work GREAT at WDW. :)

Thanks everyone for the comments! I appreciate them! I plan on doing alot of walking, fast walking, as my job is a waitress and I have to run up and down stairs all day long (Kitchen is underneath the restaurant), so I really needed a good sneaker! :)

Thanks Dan, for the link...I think I am headed towards a pair of NB, they seem to get great recommendations!! :)

You want to look for a "stability" or a "motion control" shoe. These shoes can be rather expensive because of a bridge that they put in the arch of the shoe and they also put stabilizers around the heel. I have a low arch and I definitely over pronate. This was causing me foot, ankle, and knee pain when I was starting a walking program. My tendons are very lax and flexible (according to my doctor) so my foot and ankles flop all over the place when I do anything.

I bought a Nike shoe (can't remember the name) that worked really well and was SOOO comfy. I also just bought some Asics Gel Kayano which is one of the top rated stability shoes. It is working well too, but not nearly as comfy as the Nike shoe was. Also, I have heard that New Balance is excellent. My husband uses them; however, I could not find a New Balance shoe that felt good on my foot. But everyone is VERY unique when it comes to shoes. Also, I can't say enough for Fleet Feet. Best type of store to go to.
