I just bought a pair of pretty expensive sneakers (Montrail) for our upcoming trip which we will be doing some hiking & lots of walking and I've been wearing them to break them in and everytime after an hour or so.....my toes feel tingly & sort of numb .

Does anyone know what causes that feeling and what I need to do to fix it?

They fit perfect otherwise. Oh, I bought them online a couple of months ago, so I don't even know whether I can return them!

Sounds like they are too tight. Something is compressing a nerve or blood flow to cause the numbness and tingling. Even if they feel comfortable there is obviously something wrong with the fit.

Sorry, I don't think that's something you can fix. I would try to return them if you can, or at least exchange them. Good luck,

I think it is the fit. I almost always have it with new gym shoes. Keep wearing them, but since they were expensive, do it inside so if you can't break them in, you can return them.

Did you buy them from Zappos? If so they have a 365 day return policy, so go ahead and return them. I too think that they don't fit you as well as you thought. You probably need a size up or so. It is NEVER good when the toes feel tingly and numb when wearing shoes.
