Snakes in rooms????

Is there a special number I can fax my snake room request to?

:rotfl2:

We were staying at one of the AS (it's been a few years, and I don't remember which one it was), but there was a black snack hanging outside of our door in the main walkway/hallway. I had an anxiety attack; snakes are my only fear - and, it's a BAD fear. I can't stand even thinking about them and literally have restless nights worrying that one may get in to our home.

This story has officially spooked me!!! :sad2:

Well i love all the humorous posts. It's ridiculous to accept the fact that Disney does not clean their rooms -hence how they did not even know a snake was in the curtains laying eggs ! And you want to pay $400.00 a night for this? This is the point. On the other hand, if you ever had a fear of things, you know the feeling and it's not much to make fun of. Snakes should not be in the rooms period. With a snake fear, you either are totally gripped in fear or you don't mind them. There was just a new study showing there is a genetic connection and therefore some people are just hardwired that way . So it's not a "stupid, ridiculous thing. It is true though that when you go to warm tropical locations with swamps everywhere to expect that there is a possibility of coming across a snake. But you may never either. But no one expects or wants them in their hotel rooms. Obviously on the ground floor level you have more of a chance. Sometimes the housekeepers leave the doors open while cleaning so that makes it easier for a snake or lizard to get in. of course Disney housekeeping sees nothing anyway so you are out of luck. i figure a safe spot will be at the top floor of BLT. What do you think?
All of us snake phobics will request up there.

I absolutely have ophidiophobia! (fear of snakes)

Is the risk of a snake in your room limited to 1st floor only? Could they really get to higher floors?

Do you want the answer you want to hear, or the truth? ;)

Yes, snakes can quite readily get to higher floors in buildings. They can choose the simplest methods just like people, and head up stairs; or they can climb walls with textured surfaces, climb trees and then bridge across to balconies, climb up rain gutters or external railings, climb the insides of walls, etc. It's quite easy in fact for snakes to access virtually any building on any floor.

Most of the time, though, they don't really want to. And it isn't an epidemic or anything - an occasional snake in a building common area or room may happen, but considering the number of guests cycling through Disney's hotels and the number who have encountered snakes in their rooms, you have an equal chance of winning the lottery as finding a snake in your room. So if you do...don't be scared - be excited! You're the lucky winner! :)

We were at Pop Century for 12 days in August. Only once did my wife spot a snake. It was between the bushes and the building 9 beside the computer pool.

They looked at each other and stared for a moment. The snake lost interest and moved on.

:cool1:

See, now I would be freaking out about a snake at first. After a few minutes though, I'd be like, "THIS IS SO COOL!" I'm a complete dork though and absolutely love animals and find them to be extremely fascinating.

What?! I have never got a snake in MY room at WDW! Geez. Some people get everything! ;)
I am sure it can happen. But I certainly would not consider it the norm I have been on property MANY times and have never seen a snake at all. And I am not worried about seeing one.

My last holiday I had 2 teenage girls with pmt, a snake would have been much nicer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of critters at WDW, I have been up close with an armadillo at VWL (ran under my pool chair at night), a snake at the BC (swam acrossed a path after a rain storm), those little lizards that change color, many ducks with babies who have walked into our ground floor room, rabbits, and an alligator at the BCV "moat" by the parking lot! All of this before arriving at the AK! I love it there! However, I do feel for the rest of you who don't enjoy these critters on the loose and even I don't want a snake in my room!

We were surprised with something special during our first stay at the Polynesian concierge level! Little did we know that we wouldn't be receiving any plain, old regular towel animals; we got a real one:

Oh, and this was on the third floor, too.

We actually have fond memories from when DS17 (then 14) found the little guy in the shower. DH grabbed him and escorted him outside (the salamander, not DS! LOL). :sunny:

How about a scorpion-ground floor ASMu not far from the pool area.
Thank god it was the last night we were there.

Disney does clean their rooms. They just don't go into every nook and cranny every time, kind of like how most people clean their houses. You do a superficial cleaning every day or two, but only a true get into every single corner deep cleaning a few times a year. I can't believe we are now blaming the housekeepers for snakes in a room.

Oh darn! I'm supposedto clean every corner of my house? A few times a year you say? Gosh, I think the last time I did that was 2004 when I had a baby crawling around. :lmao: As long as it wasn't a rattler, I think a snake would be cool- I know my boys (including my DH) would think so!
