Snake Signs at Disney??

Snakes scare the crap out of me!!! Saw one in the garden today, and ran into the house! I was surprised b/c they usually don't come out this early! :confused3

Me too!
I grew up in an area with rattlesnakes, I know they are more scared of me than I am of them (or so they say, but I'm not so sure, I'm pretty dang scared of them.), I know all the precautions to take, I know most of them are nice friendly non-venomous rodent eaters. I don't care! They still scare the beejuzus out of me.
Maybe I need to move to Canada! Can I move to Canada?

We took the kids over to WL to watch the geyser, and saw a snake come out of the bushes and it went over to where the water was and stayed there for a while. We, of course, as good tourists took its picture a thousand times until it left. :rotfl:

:lmao: Too funny since we actually do have a beer called 'Moosehead' It is so popular in the Maritimes that when they had a university alumni party in Toronto, they actually flew it in from NS!!! :goodvibes

I know there is a beer from Canada called Moosehead. I have had the pleasure of partaking in a few bottles in my day.

Once when travelling from Naples, FL to Disney we stopped at a rest stop and there was a sign warning about poisonous sp? snakes. And, I've read that South Carolina has the most amount of poisonous snakes the the US, so I'm sure that Florida is right up there too.

I would always be aware when being around water, tall grass, etc. while in Disney.

, I think we have a problem!!!!!

Does anyone know if there are signs posted at the resorts concerning venomous snakes? I know that they have signs warning about alligators, but I have never seen any concerning snakes. If not, I would like to see this implemented on Disney property. Thanks.

I don't think it is a bad idea. I grew up in Georgia and South Carolina and we have a lot of dangerous snakes there. But, in general, you knew where to expect them. When you are at WDW, on the sidewalk in a very carefully landscaped, busy area, you do not expect them so much and might not be as careful. Just think of all the people who are shocked to hear that snakes or alligators are spotted at WDW. Yes, they are native, but at the Happiest Place on Earth, they are still a surprise!

I have to remember this and warn my kids when we are there. In Hawai'i we have no snakes at all so I have to remember that we're not in Hawai'i and be careful.

Ho'okani

I did see one.
When I returned from the pool back to the building in Port Orleans a snake was on one of the steps that lead to the first floor.
She or he was obviously taking a sun bath and I just stepped over it. I think she was more afraid of me than I of here. :lmao:

:scared1: OMG!!!! You "stepped over it"????????? :scared1:

My son was bitten by a water moccasin on our last visit to Disney in May 2009. He spent 3 days in intensive care and received 12 vials of antivenin. If we had seen signs of any kind, I know we would have been more aware. I just don't want any other family to go through what ours did.

?????? Please tell us this is a joke....

Wow, I didn't think is was that long!!!
It's usually winter, 15 minutes of spring, 10 minutes of summer, 5 minutes of fall, then right back into winter! ;)

60 above zero New Yorkers try to turn on the heat.... People in Maine plant gardens.

50 above zero Californians shiver uncontrollably....... People in Maine sunbathe.

40 above Italian cars won't start..... People in Maine drive with the windows down.

32 above Distilled water freezes..... Moosehead Lake's water gets thicker (for non-Mainers, this is a lake in Maine)

20 above Floridians wear coats, gloves and woolly hats..... People in Maine throw on a sweatshirt.

15 above New York landlords finally turn up the heat.... People in Maine have the last cook-out before it gets cold.

zero degrees People in Miami cease to exist.... Mainers lick the flagpole.

-20 below Californians fly away to Mexico.... People in Maine get out their winter coats.

-40 below Hollywood disintergrates..... The girl scouts in Maine begin selling cookies door to door.

-60 below Polar bears begin to evacuate Antarctica.... Maine's Boy Scouts postpone "Winter Survival" classes until it gets cold enough.

-80 below Mt. St. Helen's freezes... People in Maine get to go ice skating or skiing.

-100 below Santa Claus abandons the North Pole..... Maine-iacs get frustrated when they can't thaw the keg.

-297 below Microbial life survives on dairy products.... Cows in Maine complain of farmers with cold hands.

-460 below ALL atomic motion stops..... People in Maine start saying..."Cold 'nuff for ya?"

-500 below Hell freezes over...... The Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup!

Thanks! Loved this!

Hey Webstah
I live next door in New Hampshire, you forgot Pot hole season, road construction season, and black fly season. Are you really from Maine or where you born "from away" lol

Dave Goofydad Dionne

Don't forget the mosquitoes, they've been known to carry off pets and small children! ;)

We stayed at POR last September for 9 days and didn't see any snakes, but we did have an absolutely adorable little lizard who decided to pay us a visit in our room. Seriously, I was surprised that even with staying on the first floor, there were absolutely no bugs in our room. The cement pathways at POR are wide enough to allow you to avoid any area where one might see creepy crawlies, but I can see where it would be impossible for WDW to keep the area completely free of wildlife as it is on a river.

Beware of Mickey Bunnies lurking outside of you resort room

While I feel for anyone that has had to deal with being biten by a snake I don't feel like Disney needs to post signs about them as most are not agressive and will not bite unless they feel threatened or are disturbed. Gators in WDW property have possibly been fed by guests and are used to seeing people so they are more likely to come up to a guest or not scoot away when approached - snakes aren't going to beg for food. Plus posting signs doesn't mean people will actually pay attention. How many times do you see signs and hear CMs say "No flash photography." but then someone starts snapping flash pictures within minutes?

There are also Black Widow spiders in FL should Disney put out signs about that? Or signs for Copperhead snakes? Or aigns about mosquitoes that could possibly be carriers for West Nile? Or signs for squirrels/foxes that could possibly carry rabies roaming around the property?

Not trying to be snarky but in FL there is a very real chance that you could encounter one of the above animals.

That is a Lie

I live right next door in New HAmpshire and I happen to remember last summer very vividly!!! It happened on a Thursday and lasted all day:rotfl2:

We have four seasons in Maine.
Almost Winter
Winter
Still Winter
Road construction.

Egad. You folks are freaking me out. Where we are there are no/zero/zilch snakes, no poisonous spiders and certainly no gators. (Moose, yes, maybe they killed all the snakes, spiders, and gators?)

Geez, next time my son goes into the bush chasing a rabbit, I'm going to have a heart attack. :scared1:

At Shades of Green (military resort across from the Poly) there are signs by the water/walkways that have pics of gators and snakes on it just advising guests to be aware.....

I guess people who drive to WDW on I95 or I85 better start flying to skip NC.

Look what I found climbing on the bricks....

Or do not look.

You have been warned....

Can't stop yourself from looking can you? :rotfl2:

When I first saw Mr. No Legs it was hanging from my bedroom window....

DSC_2634_2124.jpg

I figure Mr. No Legs is about 6 feet long. There is a much bigger snake of the same species on our land that must be another 2-3 feet longer. I think this little one was climbing on our house when it was younger and only 2-3 feet long. I have another photo but I figure ya'll have had enough.

Mr. No Legs was following the scent of the BAD Mickeys :) that had gotten into the attic via that gray pipe. After climbing the wall of the back porch MNL went to the front porch climbed around out there for awhile, made it up on the roof, slithered back down, and last I saw him/her was headed into the woods.

Anyone one want to see the snake in a tree in the front of the house? :scared1::banana:

We saw a snake on a path at AK a few trips back. By the way snakes do like to sun them selves on warm spots so they could be on ANY path you walk.

Oh if you decide to fly to WDW so you dont have to drive through NC aka Snake Country, I would recommend you not watch Snakes On A Plane. I heard the language was kinda rough. :confused3:lmao:

Later,
Dan

I know Clay county Florida leads the nation in :scared1:venomous snake bites, found that out AFTER we moved there.

Exactly, be aware especially around water.

I do believe there are signs at Shades of Green.

Last time we were there, had a turkey come in room to say howdy.
