Snake in my suitcase at POP Century

We were at Wilderness Lodge a few years ago when I snake swam through the baby pool. That was enough to make my kids never go back in it.

Two years ago, we stayed at the CR in the Garden Wing on the third floor and had a lizard in our bathroom. The front desk said they would send someone to "remove" it, but we caught it in bucket and just took it outside.

I know nature is all around us, but I would prefer it not to be in my room.

How can they tell you what areas to stay away from if the snakes are all over the place? Maybe try Aulani as I hear there are no snakes in Hawaii.

Have had several snake sightings at WDW but the best one was a snake slithering his way out of the lazy river at Blizzard Beach.

People would report snake sightings and the owner of the site kept tabs on where snakes were sighted along with the date and time. Then they compiled lists of the most likely places to run into them based on that (unofficial) data. (Obviously some people have too much free time on their hands.) I remember the top 2 were Tom Sawyer Island and the lazy river at Blizzard Beach. Needless to say, those are two places you won't find me at Disney.

I've managed to do a good job of avoiding them on our trips. In ~50 days on property over the last 12 years, I've only seen 2. One was on the pool deck at ASMovies and one was on the pool deck at Pop.

They may have assumed it was a venomous coral snake. But I think they probably should have known better -- JMHO. The coral snake is the only non pit viper venomous snake that lives anywhere near the area. I don't mind snakes: however, having one in my suitcase at any time -- venomous or nonvenomous -- would go over like a turd in a punch bowl with me. I'm glad Disney took care of you. Pretty shocking.

Bahahahahaha:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

No snakes on Hawaii leads to other issues of nothing to keep the rodent populations down! Ewwww....I'd take snakes over rodents any day!

There was a post on here a year ago or so about a little boy who was bitten by a poisonous snake on one of the walk-ways (sidewalks) at one of the resorts. He was taken to the hospital and treated, and I believe had to stay overnight for more than just a night.

well. I think WDW should relocate to either northern Alaska or else build a huge dome over the whole thing and eradicate the rodents and bugs and reptiles.

I will be at Pop in 3 weeks and I can GUARANTEE this post will be with me the WHOLE time.

I hate hate hate hate hate snakes. Nothing panics me more...

I would have freaked out too!! But let me tell you...a friend found a snake in her room at ASM on the 2nd floor a few years ago.... and living here in SC, LUCKILY..KNOCK ON WOOD...PRAY TO GOD....there has never been one in MY house, but several friends have had them in their homes, upstairs and downstairs. I do have several corn snakes in my backyard. Growing up in OH and moving down here it takes some getting used to, BUT it is the way of life and Florida....well, there are snakes everywhere!!! :confused3

Oh and we just stayed at Beach Club a month ago and we had to get out of the lazy river the one night because a rat decided he wanted to swim for the evening.....YUCK.....I mean it could have been Remy, but still EWWWW!!

We had a huge toad in our room at POFQ, that's about it. But now we mostly stay at Pop - yikes!!

Did you kiss it? It may have been a prince.:rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao:

We saw several black racer snakes at TL last time we were there. We told the life guards and they sent someone to look for them to relocate them. I would think with the water close by and the easy food supply, you would see them more often so they do a pretty good job keeping them away.

I read the post. The mother said it was a cottonmouth which is a highly venomous snake. I believe he may have reached for something at the edge of the sidewalk near the bushes. I can't remember for sure but the mother herself posted on the thread. And he was in the hospital a few days.

Yes. He had dropped a toy or pacifier and it bounced under the bush. He went to get it and was bitten.

I'm still reeling that someone said snakes were ON Tom Sawyer island....as in...INSIDE the park! :scared:

I hate snakes just like the average smart woman...but lord help mercy, if there was ever a place on earth were dreams come true, that means it's a locale where I can take a step and not have to think about snakes!

I had no idea I had to watch out for snakes inside the park! :headache:

We saw a small snake on the sidewalk at Springfield suites. It was too tiny to ID but I skipped and hopped my way to the car.

I'm going to have to be careful where I plan to take my 82 year old parents in the fall. If Mama saw a snake, that might be the end of her!

I'm far less worried about the small chance of a snake in comparison to the Pterydactyls roaming around Frontierland or near La Hacienda. They are fierce and unrelenting. Snake ...schmake, those birds are stalkers!!!

No, I'm not kidding.

On our third night, I found a 10" or so snake in my suitcase, which I had by the window near the door wide open (note- never doing that again, regardless of the location). We were on the ground floor in building 5 (60s) facing the water. I'm guessing it either snuck in while mousekeeping was cleaning, or got in through the outside vent.

I called the front desk and they sent a crew to come kill it, and we were able to move rooms and get 1 night comp'd. The manager was great and in the heat of the moment I just wanted it resolved. The crew initially thought it was the poisonous Colorado snake but it was just a corn snake. Still... a snake... in my suitcase at Disney World. Not exactly magical.

I'm posting this just as an FYI - ground floor/water view are really nice but I'll never request it again.

Just curious... has anyone else had this or something similar happen?

OMG...I would have had a heart attack !!!!

Last time I was at Pop I did notice there were a lot of snake traps on property.

I thought those were rat trap boxes...maybe it was snake traps...Ewww !!

This past May we were at the Beach Club, walking to Epcot via the sidewalks closest to the park. We saw a snake right outside the sliding door of a 1st floor room. I almost died!

No more ground floor rooms for me!

One time we were on the bridge near Kali River Rapids watching for my husband and oldest son to pass underneath and there was a black/orange/white snake under the front wheels of our stroller!! At first it was so brightly colored I thought it was a decoration or something, it looked too perfect to even be real, and then I saw it move! :scared: I FREAKED OUT! I remember the man standing next to me calmly looked over and said "They don't call this Animal Kingdom for nothing". :lmao:

I've seen many lizards of course, and also we had an armadillo on the front porch of our Wilderness Cabin probably looking for food. Luckily I've never seen a gator, that's my biggest fear. Of course it is Florida folks! ;)

Oh.My.God.

Pure panic would've been my response. I have a room request at POP for my August vacation for 60s lakeview. I think I'll call and add "non ground floor" to that request now.

It is Florida, one should always be aware that there are snakes everywhere. It simply isn't possible to keep them off Disney property, short of closing it up in a plastic bubble.

On Wednesday while waiting for "regular maintenance" on the Epcot monorail at the TTC, a black racer snake was on the platform and tried to get in our monorail car.
