My friend is taking her two kids and her nephew to Disney World next week, so I have put together some little bags for the kids to have on the plane (and on the trip to the airport) to keep the entertained. I have all Disney themed items including coloring books, crayons, magazines, stickers, toys, etc. I also got some snacks, but now I am wondering if all of the snacks will be appropriate for the 18 month old. The ones I am now thinking won't work for the 18 month old are the little fruit chews (they are Toy Story themed). Do you think those fruit chews are okay for an 18 month old or are they a choking hazard? What about the pre-packaged rice krispie treats? I have other cracker type snacks that I know will be fine for him, so I can give him more of those, and more of the fruit chews to the other kids (the other kids are 5 and 11).

Thanks!!

I def would not give the fruit snacks to the 18 month old.

Some good snacks for that age are cheerios, yogurt melts, fruit pouches.

Thanks!! Once I started setting out the snacks for the bags, that is when it occurred to me how young he is. I will definitely not give him the fruit snacks!!

Ask his parents what snacks are appropriate for their son. There is no way I would give a child anything to eat without express approval from the parents. Some parents can be very particular about what their kids eat and don't eat - especially when they're that young.

No to the fruit snacks. Too young. Cheerios, goldfish, yogurt drops, there are toddler cheese puffs and veggie puffs. They are usually a huge hit.

18 mo. is too young for fruit snacks. Cheerios, goldfish, yogurt melts, Puffs, fruit pouches are a good idea.

Gerber makes a toddler fruit snack that is softer and easy to chew if you want her to have something similar. They are full of sugar on little teeth but we allowed for travel and special times.

I'm around the kids and parents a lot, so I know the types of things the kids are generally allowed to eat. I know the older kids eat the fruit snacks a lot, I just never paid attention if the younger one ever ate them or not. He is a good chewer and eats a ton of different foods that the 5 year old eats, so I didn't even think about the choking issue. The parents aren't the type that are particular about the things they let their kids eat, and there are no allergy issues. If I didn't know the parents very well, I would have checked about all of the snacks, that is good advice. I just didn't think about the choking issue with the fruit snacks. I'm sure little cheese crackers and the little graham crackers will be fine for him.

Thanks everyone! I'll give the fruit snacks to the older kids and give the younger one some extra little crackers! I know he eats those! Thanks for the help!

Perhaps ask the parent what the child snacks on at home. Some children are a little wary of new foods, better to have something they will eat than have them refuse and be hungry.
