Snack and beverage increases! Oh my

Ladies and gentlemen if you don’t think the cost of the dining plan will be increasing too, you are living in fantasyland

After all you are needed to pay for improvements to the parks. Remember you should finance them before you get to use them! And you need to help Disney cover the losses from ESPN and their other investments. And don’t forget they need $71 billion to pay for Fox. pony up folks, The theme parks are the Cashcow of this business and they’re milking it for all it’s worth

I don't think it'll be in Disney's best interest to stop free ice water. I don't think they want people dropping from heat exhaustion/stroke all over the parks because people refused to pay $3.50 for a bottle of water. I'm probably wrong here but that's the way I've always looked at it.

They could definitely stop letting outside food into the park and use "safety" as a reason.

My first reaction to the pretzel price was "ooof that's a lot"--then I remembered that's exactly what I paid for a pretzel at the hockey game I went to this weekend. Prices going up everywhere and of course Disney is leading that charge. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To bad Disney can’t follow the lead of some of my local sports teams. They actually lowered all their prices a few years ago and guess what? they’re making more money. They don’t make as much per item but they sell more items in their overall profit is higher. Maybe Disney should quit leading by bad example and follow the Atlanta example and lead by doing good things for their consumers

I know from me Disney makes less and less every year. Paying more to receive less, it doesn’t do it for me. Paying now for attractions I won’t get to experience for years doesn’t do anything for me either

However from my years of figure skating Event attendance, i am a professionals foods smuggler. If they get that cheap, I’ll start a blog on how we smuggle food into sporting events, it probably will work for Disney

I don’t think Disney will stop letting outside food into the park. How will they distinguish “regular” food and food people need to accommodate food allergies and other dietary needs?

The other parks do this, am sure they can find a basis.

The masses, you me and rest will pay the price, we always do. May make some changes or cutbacks but we all have to be honest Disney knows people will pay.
Yep. Most visitors won't be aware of the price increase and will pay those prices without skipping a beat.

Yes and no. They continue price increases and complication I think they are starting to drop off some of those one time visitors. I’ll give you an example I woman I work with went about five years ago with her four kids. She recently looked it going again, after doing the math and looking at all the information and trying to figure it all out, they’re going on a cruise instead. And it’s not a Disney cruise

And she and her husband probably make more than your average middle-class Americans. If they aren’t going because it cost too much and it’s too hard to figure out, is that a good sign for Disney?

A man I work with looked at going for a weekend, just he and his wife. They had never been and thought it be fun to go to Disney for the weekend. This couple makes a lot of money. After figuring out that since they didn’t plan in advance they really wouldn’t get to ride the rides after paying Several hundred dollars for tickets, they went to Universal. Yes they knew about standby but decided that it wasn’t worth the risk that they wouldn’t be able to get on Rides or that they would spend the whole weekend in lines. They may not ever go to Orlando for an amusement park weekend again, Disney lost that revenue

I wouldn’t be surprised to see water dispensers installed around the parks to refill bottles next. That way free water is free if they don’t have to give you a cup
I would love to see this! Trying to fill a bottle at a water fountain is not easy and it’s not as filtered ( or tastes like it’s not) as the restaurant water.

I could be wrong, but I think families that are pricing out a trip are looking at the cost of the hotel, park tickets, flight, and maybe table service restaurants....but I doubt many first timers are going through snack menus and pricing it out to that level of detail. So if they are "priced out" of the vacation, it's not because of snacks.

I agree. I have several friends who used to go to WDW every other year. Given the amount of $$$ of tickets, food, flights plus the amount of planning, WDW is no longer desirable. They still love WDW, but it's just more of a pain to plan this trip esp if you 're doing it <180 days. Disney is going to lose some people, esp people with kids who can only travel during school holidays.

I only know two people who go to WDW regularly, stay onsite, do TS meals, may get DDP, etc. They both have decided to go elsewhere this year due to prices and the level of planning. One is doing Universal (and did Universal last year) and the other is doing a cruise, not Disney.

Wow I don't think I could ever justify getting a churro at Disney every again. At leas the pretzel has a little bit more substance to it. Goodbye churro at HS during Fantasmic.

If I buy a churro, I'm going to have to take it on rides, pose with it in pictures, have characters greet it and introduce it to my friends to make it worth the cost. :p

We arrive on Tuesday. Not happy about the price increases but we will continue to go to Disney. We just continue to modify how we vacation. Several years ago we stayed on property at a deluxe and ate all meals in Disney restaurants. Now we stay offsite in a 2 bedroom villa with a full kitchen. We spend more time at our amazing resort. We cook breakfast in our room (mostly for health reasons). We buy champagne and enjoy it on our screened in porch overlooking the lake at our resorts. We occasionally eat off property. We dine in Disney lounges on apps. We have ice cream for dinner. We don't buy snacks (mostly because they are just unhealthy). Doing more food & wine events and way less booth snacking as well. We bring in bottled water. Just a few examples

I just did another table service price
check and they have increased prices there too at least on some. I heard BOG went up to $60. Site still says $55 but I believe it probably did or is going up. We are dropping off a character breakfast that we were planning to do for fun to make my cost estimate come out similarly. I have never really pride checked quick service. I just do a high estimate of $30 for 2 of us for those meals. I figure if we eat less than that we can get snacks or souvineers. My daughter said we should probably just do more kids meals at quick service (we often do some as kids meals) and I think she is probably right. We probably will eat 9-11 table service meals in our 2 week trip. We do get the resort mugs so any soda we drink will be at the resort or maybe a kids meal. We will prob get prime now delivery again for breakfast stuff and some snacks. That worked out great this past summer. We will make it work for us but definitely will cut out some things. If prices keep climbing we can always shorten our stay or cut more corners. I don’t want to cut too many corners because it is vacation afterall!

One of the few good things I've noticed about getting "older" is we don't eat and drink as much as when we were younger. We may get 1 or 2 snacks a day and share that. We don't drink a lot of soft drinks as a rule, so depending on how hot it is we may get 2-3/day and share. For a meal we may get an appetizer, split an entrée and sometimes a desert. This is not to save money but because we noticed we were wasting a lot of food. As far as booze is concerned we may have 3-4 each for a week long stay (that used to be per day). I can't imagine what a young family of four with a couple of teenagers spends in an average day.

The price of the churro is making me want to stick to my cheap Costco ones. It definitely makes me rethink my snacks. I'd rather spend the money on something more uniquely Disney.

We will also bring our own Dasani in, I buy it by the case. And let me just say I think the food is better at the Swan & Dolphin, actually cooked in the restaurant, and less expensive, and right around the corner from Epcot. Win Win!
