Smoothest roller coaster at MK?

My kid LOVED Barnstormer when she was 2 years old. Fast forward, she's now 8 and the Dahlonega Mine Train at Six Flags over Georgia scared her so much that I wonder if she's ever going to like roller coasters, even kiddie or family ones. She tells it scared her partially because of the speed and partially because it was so rough. BUT, she really WANTS to like roller coasters, at least family ones.

Between Big Thunder, Barnstormer, and Seven Dwarfs, which is the smoothest? I really think the roughness of the ride is what scares her the most. I won't push her, but if she decides that she wants to try one, I'd like to know which one people think is the smoothest, and we'll give that one a go.

I would say Seven Dwarves is the smoothest for sure. Big Thunder is probably the roughest one in the park. Barnstormer is very short, but in terms of being smooth it’s in between the others. Seven Dwarves is really quite tame.

Big Thunder will be closest to the Dahlonega Mine Train - it tosses you about the same way. Rough ride.

7DMT is smooth, on few turns you'll feel more movement because each car rocks independently, but not rough. You are always enclosed in scenery whereas Dahlonega is open track. In the middle it goes in the cave and she'll see the seven dwarfs mining and they are very cool. Dahlonega also has two very dark parts (Big Thunder has one) but 7DMT never gets dark.

7DMT is really smooth. My 2 year rode it with no problem but she also rode ToT at 3. My girls are fearless.

SDMT is so smooth it's almost unnerving. Be warned it does swing though, so depending on exactly what your kiddo is sensitive to, it could be smoothly freaking her out!

My girls have done 7DMT, Barnstormer, Big Thunder, and one has done EE. I thought Dahlonega Mine train would be easy at this point (one had even done Mindbender and loved it). Both girls came off of it, crying and refusing to ever go back again!

7DMT is incredibly smooth. It was my girls first rollercoaster after Barnstormer and Wil E. Coyote at 6 Flags.

Ahh, the Dahlonega mine train, and the trips to Atlanta of my youth. I loved it way back, but I happened to ride it about 5 years ago. And in my 40s, I thought it might kill me. I had a bruise on my knee for days.

To the topic at hand, 7D is amazingly smooth. The swinging cars actually balance away any of the roughness. There is one pretty good dip, but overall it is a very well done coaster for younger kids. Read her this description from an “old man” and she may just want to ride 7D.

If she successfully rides that, she might like the others. I honestly think none of these are as rough as Dahlonega. And Big Thunder is an awesome ride!

SDMT, for sure. And, the theme helps detract from the coaster aspect.

Question - is SDMT a little rockier in the back???

I've only ridden it once so can't tell you for certain... but if the answer to my question is yes, then you may want to ask the CM if you can wait til the next train so you can ride in one of the middle cars (at least during your first attempt)...

IMHO, yes, the "rocking" or "swinging" motion of the cars is more pronounced in the back, but only in a few areas.

We rode the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train last week. I had read in several different websites and books that the mine train was not scary at all, but my 8-year-old found in terrifying. She cried for a half-hour after getting off. Maybe because we rode it at night? Or perhaps they made it faster than it used to be? It may be a "kiddy" roller-coaster, but it is still a roller-coaster. My advice to parents of young (or easily scared) children would be to watch the ride first with your kids (from the outside), and let them decide if they want to go on it. I pushed my daughter to go on it because of what I had read, and it was a mistake.

If you want a smoother ride, sit towards the front of the mine train. Much less swinging. And the CM will let you stand aside for a moment, if you would have ended up in the back.

Just don't make my mistake of asking to be "near the front" and ending up in the front row of the very first car. :scared:

I would say that night is likely the reason. My middle DD who is pretty fearless and loves coasters didn't like space because of the darkness. I find roller coasters more intense in the dark where you can't see what's coming too.

Slinky Dog Dash would be a perfect “next” rollercoaster after Barnstomer, IMO. And then 7DMT which is a little more intense and /or “darker”. SDD has that fun, playful element to soften the intensity of the ride.
