Smoking & stroller wagons banned May 1!

Some guests smuggle in alcohol, or so I'm told by a friend who is definitely not me.
Oh, tons of people do. I was at Trader Joe’s awhile ago and some ladies were buying bottles of wine and explaining how they pour them into stainless water bottles to take to Food and Wine at DCA. “Buy one glass so you have their plastic cup and then just refill all day!”

I also know people who have plastic flasks that go through the metal detectors, and I have an acquaintance who talks about taking a reusable water bottle full of vodka. A lot of people smuggle stuff into DL in particular since you can’t buy it there.

I haven’t done it myself, but it’s not uncommon.

This thread has gotten way off-track, by the way, and I’m not helping! :rolleyes1

Perhaps some do. That doesn't negate the fact that Disney still provides it. The park(s) makes plenty of money without having to resort to alcohol sales. No one -- Disney included -- should be surprised, then, when guests get hammered. Should guests' passes be revoked for being drunk and disorderly? Perhaps. But again, perhaps the server/bar/restaurant that overserved should also be penalized.

Guests that do that should be kicked out/barred/have their passes revoked without question. There are plenty of places they can go to drink to the point of inebriation. Disneyland needn't be one of them.

The drunk guests were taken out of line and our family was also taken out of line to get him cleaned up. Disney got him a change of clothes as an apology, which was appreciated but still kind of upset him for the rest of the night understandably.
That was probably the worse interactions with drunken guests as it directly impacted a family member, but we have seen our fair share of unruly intoxicated guests.

That’s awful. I’ve seen a lot of drunk people too, especially in DCA but also in DL. I hate it. It’s not like I never drink, because I do, just not in the parks. My daughter and her friend had beer spilled on them in line and another time we’ve gotten out of line because of a couple of drunk guys in front of us being inappropriate. Have seen other things too. Not sure why CMs don’t notice. Not looking forward to alcohol being served at DL :(

I'm sorry to hear that you got cancer from second hand smoke. That's completely unfair. Congrats on beating it!

So it seams we can all agree, just allow edibles.

Thank you. Since beating it, my chances of getting any head and neck cancers rose by 40%. So, I am vigilant about any smoke. Yes, I do not mind edibles, that is going into the person who brought it's mouth. Edibles would increase their beverage sales! Gotta wash down the edibles with something, like a smoothie.

Just so people know, smuggling alcohol and getting caught is one way to get an annual pass revoked. Causing issues while drinking will get you removed form the park, and ticket media removed. As for the server, they absolutely can get in trouble for over-serving. One issue is when a server denies the person because they have had too much, often they simply have their friend buy the next one and bring to them. Disney takes drunkenness seriously because that is when a guest can get injured. Remember the guy on Tower of Terror who was drunk on the second story when he decided to climb over the stair railing and fell?

I don’t like the idea of alcohol at any Disney park. But Disney bears some of the blame for drunken guests. They sell alcohol and, it seems, they overserve a number of guests. When you give people alcohol, drunkenness is the result. It’s not like guests smuggle-in alcohol.
People I'm sure pre-game it as well.

Also I would like to say when you give people alcohol drunkenness is NOT the result. That can be the result it it not THE result though.

Good!

Actually, I don't. Then again, neither does the guy that did it ;-).

All kidding aside -- and why not, for a change? -- I just Googled the incident. It happened in August, 2010. Although it doesn't say specifically that the kid was drinking, it was believed that he had been. Certainly I believe it. Mainly because I prefer to think that good ol' fashioned drunkenness was to blame for his climbing over a railing and then falling. If sober people are that stupid, I'd prefer not to know.

Also I would like to say when you give people alcohol drunkenness is NOT the result.
It is eventually.

The only thing I know that leads to drunkenness is alcohol. The only thing I know that doesn't is sobriety/abstinence ;-).
But yes -- you're right. Drinking doesn't always lead to drunkenness. But it does often enough that I don't want it in any Disney park.

I say this with respect you kinda have a jaded viewpoint of alcohol.

If you keep your opinion to yourself and don't actually judge people in the parks with a drink in their hand I suppose that's different. The way you sound though if someone had any drink in their hand you'd think they were destined to become a drunk :sad2:

Again giving people alcohol doesn't lead to drunkenness but drinking to excess can. Those two aren't mutually exclusive.

Obviously well off topic for the thread. So probably best to just leave it at that and move onto strollers and smoking :)

Same, ours by listed specs is right at 31" but it would make me nervous to take it if it's a metal device to fit in and I'm 1/4" too big or whatever
If they make the metal device true to size it should be ok. I think the thing there is having each device be consistent in the measurements so it's the same for all. Agree with the PP that having it at bag check would be the most ideal.

Perhaps I do. Conversely, I could say you have a lax viewpoint. To clarify, however, I don't care if people drink. I just don't want it to happen at Disneyland. Especially since there are literally thousands of other places for people to do it.

As as aside, I used to work for the Chicago Police Dept. Many veteran officers have said to me that if we could (somehow magically) eliminate drugs and alcohol, we'd eliminate 80-90% of all crime. In short, I think alcohol does more harm than good.

Lax opinion I think not. There's two extremes. You're on one end. I'm in the middle :) I have experiences as well I could tell but alas I opt to see things differently.

Let me know if you'd like to discuss more via PM as I don't want the thread to go off the rails too much :)

Not allowing alcohol at Disneyland is an extreme opinion? Tell that to Disneyland -- other than at Club 33, alcohol hasn't been served at the park since it opened in 1955. Incidentally, your proclamation that my opinion is extreme and yours isn't doesn't thereby make either true.

Sounds to me like you insist on having the last word.

Yeah you misinterpreted what I was saying on the extreme aspect. Wasn't about DLR at all it was about your views on alcohol leading to drunkeness. Not about having the last word actually (weird to say that) just suggested if you wanted to talk more to PM me because the thread was getting well off track. I don't mind actually discussing with you just thought it would be appropriate since we were continuing the discussion to move it to PM if you wanted to have further conversation. I guess you didn't get what I was going with that :) Hey by all means if the Mod is ok with it and everyone else is ok with it continue on in this thread. I'm more used to Mods steering the direction of the thread back on topic or the thread gets locked and I didn't want the off topic alcohol discussion to get the thread locked.

Well, I am not helping either, but just a forewarning, I have seen security opening "water bottles" and smelling (even tasting by pouring into a separate glass on occasion) to see if they contain alcohol. I do know one person who did it so much they got their AP revoked for doing so.

I hope what people have been writing here regarding security watching for inebriation is true but sadly, I haven't seen evidence of it. I can't count how many times I've seen small groups of people that were obviously high - especially on meth (users think nobody is the wiser when in fact it's totally obvious). They're obnoxious and wonder around without consequence.

I don't think that people who have a beer, glass of wine or cocktail are catergorically drunks and I don't think anyone else here is say that either. I'll have one or two at dinner when I'm in the parks myself.
What I don't understand is those who feel they have to get loaded (on what ever) to have a good time - even at Disneyland.
