Smoking before rope drop?

Don't know if this is the correct forum so I not my apologies. This year will be my first Disney trip traveling with 2 smokers. Trying to learn the ins and outs so we don't waste too much time. Lol.

We plan on being at the parks for rope drop. I am thinking that it might be good if they could smoke somewhere while the rest of us waited in line. I am a commando tourist so the thought of stopping, especially in the morning, to smoke makes me ill. Are there designated smoking areas either before or after bag check? Basically is there somewhere they are allowed to smoke before entering the park?

Any other tips would be appreciated!

I don't believe there are any DSAs right before you get into the park that I can recall.

Do they typically smoke in crowds? If not, this may not be an issue...

Geez they can't wait a few minutes without a smoke! Slap a nicotine patch on them and go lol

I'm fairly sure there is not a DSA until you are well into the Magic Kingdom. You may want to prepare your friends that their last smoke for a while will be in the DSA at the resort.

Dwheels lol!!!! Seriously that's what I want to do. I would like them to use this waiting time so we won't have to use park time. I know they can go hours, they aren't chain smokers but I just don't want to stop in the morning!

I don't understand the smoking in crowds question? Is that like a thing? Smokers don't want to smoke in crowds? I am thinking it is probably ok to smoke out by the bus area away from people.

And thanks for the links! I did notice the wdwinfo site had and Epcot before turnstile location near the bathrooms so that's awesome! Hopefully that list is updated. In the meantime some prayers that they quit smoking before December would be appreciated. Lol.

It isn't ok to smoke out by the buses. Once you are at a Disney park or resort the ONLY places to smoke are DSAs. Out by the Disney buses is definitely not a DSA, nor is it away from people, lol!

Lol I hear ya I hate having to stop especially in the morning I'm on a mission!! Smokers def don't want to smoke in crowds in fact I don't think u can in any public place

Out by the buses . . . away from people . . . . you haven't been to Disney World before, have you :rotfl2:

OP--I want to say I understand where you are coming from. I am an Up An At It, Rope Drop kind of person myself! However, when you travel with people who smoke, you have to come to grips with the fact that it will take a bit of both time and effort for them to get their fix.

I've gone to WDW with my mom who smokes. And you do have to spend time looking at the map and searching out DSAs. It will take time away from your day, no doubt about it! If you intend to enjoy your trip with your friends you need to come to grips with that now, and do your best to not get irritated and impatient with them.

Get the maps ahead of time, and circle the DSAs. And please make sure your friends stick to smoking in them, and only smoke when in a DSA. You don't want to be "those" people. The rude ones smoking in the crowds, annoying everyone.

Thanks everybody! They will definitely obey the rules! They are not the rule breaking type. And haha at the bus comments. I suppose I meant more the parking area. Lol. I am preparing myself and I don't think I will be too irritated. As long as they can make it a few hours into the morning ... Ha!

If you explain this to your companions, there shouldn't be a problem. You said they aren't chain smokers and can go for hours. Make sure their last smoke is before they leave the resort and it shouldn't be hours and hours until they can have their next one. In fact, they can stand with you in line for rope drop with a current park map in their hand and circle the DSAs while you wait.

It isn't that bad and they should be able to hang on. My husband and I both smoked every time we've been there. I quit last year, but still do the smoking area thing with my husband. :-)

There is no place, and I mean no place, where they can easily have a smoke while you wait for rope drop, and then quickly meet up with you as you go into the park. If you want to enter together, you need to stay together.

Just think of Florida as a non-smoking outdoors kind of state. ;) It really isn't, but on a Disney trip, the smoking areas will be very limited. It is completely doable though and doesn't have to detract much from your trip, or slow you down too much.

This is an area where research and planning can really make things less stressful for all of you. You guys need to get the maps and mark the smoking areas so you can easily see them instead of hunting for the little symbol every time you pull out the map. Once you get to the general area of the DSA, your friends should be able to find the exact location by following the smell. We have a highly developed sense for smelling cigarette smoke when we are needing one ourselves. Smokers have triggers and times when they "need" that smoke. For most of us, it is when we get frustrated/exhausted, after a meal, with coffee (or cold liquid caffeine)...

The smoking areas aren't usually close together, and most of them are tucked out of the way off the beaten path (with a couple of very notable exceptions). Try to take advantage of other rest breaks or stops as you move around the park. What I mean is, if someone needs the restroom, head to the nearest smoking section and then use the bathroom closest. Bathrooms are always more plentiful than DSA's. If someone needs a drink or a snack.... they can smoke and send you to get the goodies.

Unless you drive to the parks, you will not ever be in a parking area. The bus drops you off the same place it picks up other guests. Truly they will need to hit up a DSA before leaving the resort, and then wait until they are in a DSA in the park to smoke. If as you say they can go a while without a cigarette, that shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck!:)

I am a smoker, and have had no issues doing the parks. I would never let my nasty habit take away anything from those I am touring with. If I feel I need to smoke, I will put my family in an attraction near a DSA, and go smoke and meet them at the exit of attraction. As for RD shows, at MK I do believe way off to the right you can smoke, at EPCOT, the same thing, At HS, don't remember seeing one, but if they seperate from you and go to the far right, and I mean far, past the buses, they could grab one, and AK has none but the parking lot.

AK has one to the far left right before bag check as well as outside of Rainforest Cafe.

Dh and I both smoke. We do RD and we like to hit as many things as possible in the AM. Its really not that big of a problem.

We stay onsite and we smoke right before we get on the bus in a DSA at the resort.

Then on to the park and RD and we head straight to whatever we have chosen as our first attraction. After 2 or 3 things, we may take a minute break IF we are close to a DSA. Otherwise we just wait until we are close to one.

I would just show your friends how limited the DSA's are and let them work it out for themselves. If this is their first trip, chances are they will be too excited to worry about it too much.
