Smoking Areas at the Theme Parks

I'm taking Hubby on his first WDW trip at the end of May and as I'm not a smoker, and he is, was wondering if there is a printable list that would indicate all the smoking spots in all four theme parks.

It sure would be nice to be able to indicate to him where the nearest smoking spot is via my Palm w/o trying to figure it out from the Park map.

I also realize that it would be nice if he didn't smoke, but he does, and there isn't much I can do about it. So let's not start any kind of a war over my request. :bitelip:

Thanks much!!

IMO the smoking sections are pretty clearly marked on the maps...(little smoking symbol)...being a smoker - I have my favorite ones - there are more available - but these are all I can remember. (maybe other dis'ers here can help you create a full list...)

MK
If you are facing Pirates of the Carribean - to the left around the corner
Facing the Dole whip counter - to the right (actually a nice one - in the shade w/ chairs/tables)
Near the McDonald's cart that sells fries - however, the birds are HORRIBLE here, so I reccommend finding a different one! ;)
Near the tomorrow land speedway - if you are looking at it - to the right and down a small hill. (you can watch all the kids attempt to drive - too funny!)
facing space mountain - take a right and head towards the rest rooms - keep walking and it's just past them
I know there's one near the HM too...can't think of it though

EPCOT
In front of Mission Space (between that and Test Track) there is a little tucked away place - walk down the stairs to it)
Near Ellen's energy adventure - I remember sitting down with coffee watching the kids in the fountain, so I guess there's one around there
Outside of The Land between The living Seas
Almost every other country has one - some tucked away, some right on the 'main' walking path.

MGM
right when you walk in, there are bathrooms off to the right - also a smoking section
Near the exit of Tower of Terror - where the gift shop is, back in there in the corner (nice and shady too)
Facing the Great Movie ride - walk to your left...a bunch of tables/umbrellas - also a smoking section
outside of Sci-Fi Cafe - facing the restaurant, turn around and walk straight.
Where that big dinosaur is in the middle of the lake (it's an ice cream stand? heheh) Face that, turn to your left, walk a few feet - right there.

AK
These are probably the hardest to find...
In Harambe - there is the Dawa bar, behind that is a smoking section
walking to Asia from Africa - there will be a hidden path on the left...very secluded smoking section
I believe there is one outside of Restaurantasauraus (or whatever that place is called that serves McDonald's)

These are all I can remember right now - I'm sure others will be able to direct you more exactly...but really - when it doubt - just ask a CM! :)

Wahoo!! She named almost all of them I think!!!

Like Belle said they are marked w/little cigarettes on all maps. Also at MK there is one accross from the Big Thunder exit...by one of the Tom Sawyer loading docks. This one may be seasonal if there is such a thing. That Dock is never operating when we are there (May). It may not be available if dock is operating.

heheh...yeah, probably not something I should be proud of...being able to list a multitude of smoking sections in WDW.

Oh - and btw, Disney_Freak - your DH can smoker where ever the heck he wants at Pleasure Island and DTD!! (um - outside of course - still no smoking indoors I believe)

Disney_Freak, I'm in the same position as you--DH is a smoker, I'm not. I have to tell you to tag along with him sometimes! I found more secluded, out of the way places that I had never seen before! DD and I took this as an opportunity to relax and look around at some new areas in all the parks. It was great--kind of forced us to stop and smell the roses--so to speak. Actually, the smoking areas are rather small so if you just step a bit away, you're out of range of the smoke.

I'm in the same posistion too! Dh smokes but swears he is gonna quit before we go. I'm not holding my breath on this one.

It's been 17 years at least since i've been to WDW and the last time I was smoking - you could pretty much just smoke where ever. Seems strange to me that your outside and you have to go to a designated smoking area but thats the way it is now I suppose.

Are the smoking areas in the park conveniant?:chat:

My dad and sister smoke and really like some of the nice sections they sit in. Usually, the rest of us wander while they take a few minutes. My dad has said though that the places are really easy to find.

Yes - I think the smoking areas are convenient...not really a far walk to any one from any where. (Half the fun is finding them - like other posters said - some can be really secluded and you get to see a different part of the park you wouldn't normally see.)

and speaking as a smoker - I RATHER have a designated outdoor place to smoke. I even get grossed out when I'm walking through Fantasy land and some inconsiderate smoker is smoking out in the open and blowing it in my face.

just adding to the list, off the top of my head:

Magic Kingdom

~Toontown Train Station...way at the far left end
~At the yellow umbrella tables on the lower patio from Plaza restaurant
~Courtyard in back of the Liberty Tree Inn & Christmas shop
~and the one near Haunted Mansion used to be outside Columbia Harbor House restaurant, recently moved across the walkway, up against the rail near the Liberty Belle boat dock

MGM

~ Between Tower of Terror and Rock n' Roller Coaster, behind the Turkey Leg Stand
~ heading towards Backlot Tour, turn left atthe giant Coca Cola Bottle
~ Just outside Brown Derby restaurant, along the wall near the Archway that leads to Little Mermaid

EPCOT

~Outside MouseGears, facing the Fountain of Nations
~if walking from Future World towards World Showcase, benches on left just before the gift-stands (almost opposite the water fountains that kids splash & play in)
~ Test Track area, near the 'coca cola car wash'
~ Restroom area near Spaceship Earth (just past guest services, right side of Spaceship Earth if facing park exit/World Showcase to your back)
~Living Seas, just before Coral Reef Restaurant entrance

Animal Kingdom

~ Asia has one but tough to describe without consulting map
~ Camp Minnie Mickey, almost at the end, on left, kind of opposite character greeting area entrances
~ Dinoland, out the backdoor of Chester & Hester's gift shop

I am not a smoker, but my mother and sister are. They are very respectful and only use the designated smoking areas, but yet have been confronted with rude behavior. While sitting in smoking section in Epcot one woman made a snide comment stating they shouldn't be smoking there. Being a nurse I certainly don't condone smoking, but do respect that it is a difficult habit to break. No one has a right to judge or treat others in an ignorant or disrespectful manner.

I'm very nervous about this issue. :faint: DH, MIL, FIL and I are all smokers. The last time we went to Disney was about....3 years ago and they seemed....lax on their smoking policy so we pretty much just found out of the way places to do it. (I know, it's NOT very nice but we still tried to be respectful about it) This time we have read up on it and KNOW there are smoking areas, but I remember last time having a hard time FINDING the smoking areas. They were well marked on the maps but not when you got to the area....I don't know. I didn't really have a point, just wanted to comment :)

Do they still sell cigarettes in the Theme Parks?

Our last visit was in 2000...You had to ask for them in the shops.
They were not displayed.

You bring up an excellent point. Unless Hubby :earsboy: plan to pack a couple of cartons, we will definitely need a car. Was planning on one any how, but this will bring that point home to him. :cool2:

This is such a different trip from the last 21 I've taken. :worried: It's almost like it's possibly a "make it or break it" kind of trip.

Did want to say Thanks to all who have listed the various smoking spots. :grouphug: I do have the 2004 Passporter with the pull-out maps (which by the way is a very nice feature), but unless I carry a magnifying glass with me every day, I could be in trouble -- Old Age. :rotfl:

The most uncomfortable "smoking section" is in Epcot near Norway (I think).
The ashtray is right there by the main walkway, it's not tucked away like the other smoking areas.
I am still unhappy that they made the beautiful little garden area in England a smoking section.
I smoke :( but my husband doesn't. No one I'm ever with smokes. It's always just me.
We always enjoyed relaxing in the gardens there but it's not the same now.

After the new smoking laws were enacted in Florida, The House of Blues built a bar outside in the front. We sat there one rainy night and enjoyed listening to a very talented guitarist.

You can smoke on the porch outside of the Belle Vue Room (the lounge in The Boardwalk).
You can smoke on the catwalk outside the California Grill in the Contemporary.
You can smoke in JellyRolls on the Boardwalk, but I've never been in there. That's the ONE thing my husband won't do at Disney!

I'm not sure about buying cigarettes in the parks but you can get them at the resort stores.

The smoking section in France is my favorite.
I could sit there and watch that cute little French guy doing the chair act all day! ;)

We'll be there at the end of May too, maybe I'll be smoking with your hubby!
Have a great time!

We are not going to a Theme Park on Thanksgiving Day.
After Dinner(Undetermined) we were going to go to watch the Chicago Vs. Dallas NFL game @ 4:15 @ a yet undetermined Sports Bar Type place.

What are the Florida Smoking Laws for Bars?

We want to find a place with decent prices! Not the ESPN Club!

We will have a car and designated driver! Any Suggestions within a few miles of POP?

Thanks!

You can only smoke in bars that make 10% or less of their profit from food. There aren't many decent bars like that!
Some nicer sports bars have outdoor patios with TV's and you can smoke out there.
I don't know any in the DW area but I'll ask my Disney bartender friend.

:sunny:

Cigarettes are no longer sold in the theme parks, but are available at the resort gift shops. My fiance always brings a carton with him because the prices are extremely high (I think like $9.00 per pack).

We'll be staying at the Wilderness Lodge. Does anyone know if ther are specific smoking areas there? We'll be in a non-smoking room and Hubby will definitely NOT smoke in the room, but I am wondering where he should go in order to smoke.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

I would definetly bring your own smokes from home - what they charge down there too is crazy!

Also - if you are like me and like to chew gum after a smoke...bring that with you too...you can't buy ANY gum in WDW...or, I just leaned, in MCO! (and airport that doesn't sell gum? so odd...)

I have to say that a few smoking areas are in not good places - the one in Norway and the one in Camp Minnie Mickey...I think they are too much in the open and too close to other people who might be offended by smokers. But - oh well - that's where Disney tells me to smoke!
