I am for it if smoke free is defined as no lighted tobacco product anywhere on the ship, inside or out (excluding verandahs...hey, it's there room) .

Quick grammatical correction, before BD gets me...

"it's their room.

Smoke from the verandahs travel to other verandahs. When I said 100% non smoking, I ment 100% non smoking.

I would like to be able spend more time in the clubs. I cannot stay long because of the smoke. The later it gets, the smokier it gets. I feel I'm missing out on fun because of my asthma. Smoke free clubs would be great.

Going on the Carnival Paradise which is the smoke free ship was SOOOO nice! It was pleasant and no irritation to the lungs or eyes! I am 100 percent for non-smoking cruises! When you board you sign an agreement that if you are caught doing anything resembling smoking you will be fined $250.00 and kicked off at the next port! We had a couple actually have that happen to them and they had to pack up that night and the next day they were left in Cozumel and $500 dollars lighter since it was $250 per person! I fully support it!

Our family would love a 100% smoke free cruise.

Good luck on this one.

Smokers and non smokers will never meet in the middle on this one.
I wish Disney would offer one week of non smoking and see how fast they sell out.

I would LOVE smoke free. As a former smoker (thirteen years 'clean' now) I absolutely HATE the smell, I find it so offensive how it hangs on clothes etc. It seems so unfair that I want to relax on my veranda which I pay big bucks to have and end up with a chimmney next door who blows it constantly my way. With all the kids on disney you would think they would want to make a stand. Heck even the tobacco companies now admit there is no safe cigerette and that it will cause cancer. Why anyone continues to smoke is beyond me.
Edited to add... ok to be fair to the smokers how about they have sections of cabins that have verandas that are dedicated to smokers and then the rest to the non smokers with like a cat. seven seperating them then everyone could be happy?

Dream on ~
another smoke free group behind ya! :teeth:

It's the potential smoke from a neighboring verandah that is keeping me from getting one. Why pay that much $ & not be able to enjoy it. I agree that they should/could have smoking rooms (verandahs) & non smoking ones. The nons should be forward of the smoking ones to keep the smoke blowing in the right direction when underway.
Ever notice that the Carnival Paradise is a little less expensive than other similar Carnival sailings? I suspect it is b/c the ship is easier to keep clean & less wear & tear from the tobacco products.
Maybe on Disney's next ship(s) they could put better air handlers/scrubbers/systems in the clubs to keep the air cleaner.

Totally agree with you Ann, 100% smoke free... not even on your verandah, yes, I know, I know, people "pay" for the verandah. But I'm also paying for a verandah and would like to go out on it and not choke up from someone's smoke.

I'm also a "reformed smoker", 20 years now... Can't figure out why I ever even smoked, I was a kid...... don't get me started.. ok, ok, I'm already started on this issue that I feel so passionate about.

I will absolutely kill my daughter if she ever thinks about smoking.. She knows how I feel about it and even when she comes in from a club, she takes a shower right away and puts her smelly clothes downstairs in the laundry because she can't stand the smell either.

Today's world, at least in my community, smokers are in the minority. Why should I have to walk through smoke to get into a building? Why should I have to inhale someone else's smoke just because they choose to smoke? Why should I inhale someone's smoke from their balcony or verandah?

Ok, I'm done, that's just my opinion!! I hope that doesn't make me a bad person.

Jeanny,
WELL SAID
I am so surprised to see so many people against smoking on the ship. We had a terrible experience at WDW a few years back and when I complained about it on the boards I felt alone.

When I think of Disney of think of children. What child should have to be near smoke just because some adult thinks it's okay to smoke around someone else's child. Is it just us or have others had a hard time not standing in or near a smoke cloud at the sail away party? Whats up with that?
Why should anyone be allowed to smoke on a ship in the middle of the ocean?

I hope to see LOTS more non smokers support this. Just maybe DISNEY will listen.

I voted for smoke free. DS is highly allergic and that is the reason why we have hesitated DCL. Annmarie

It actually amazes me that other lines have taken a stand with non smoking ships but Disney who I think of as children first does not make such a stand...I wonder how many sales they are losing because of it?

I wish Disney would listen. Not only is it a health issue, but a fire issue as well! Personally I don't think it should be allowed even on the veranda's, not just because their smoke travels to their neighbors veranda, but I don't want to go up in flames because of my neighbors dropping their cigarette on the wooden deck, or a spark flies and could possibly start a fire.

I've noticed on my 4 previous cruises, that unfortunately some smokers don't even stick to their "restricted" areas. Too many people are smoking near the kids pool, so to stay out of the wind, but everyone else has to breath in their crap! Makes you wonder where else they may be "sneaking" a smoke?

I can't wait until WDW and DCL make all there resorts and cruise ships "SMOKE FREE"!!
IMO if you want to smoke....smoke

in your own house, where it doesn't effect anybody else(feel sorry for your kids though:( )

WALT DISNEY, would roll in his grave,
loved his smokes peter

I would LOVE a smoke free cruise!!!! It is SO unfair that I pay for a verandah and then can't use it because of a smoker blowing their stink onto it!

I think people should be allowed to smoke in designated areas. I think the reason smoke-free cruises are cheaper, is that besides DCL, most adults like to go to the casinos and smoke, and they have to make the non-smoking cruises cheaper to fill them. This is a free country after all. If we ban smoking altogether, then we should ban women with horrid perfume, and anyone with body odor, or bad breath...or babies in public with poopie diapers.
And as far as the health concerns, so far as I know, no one has ever smoked a carton of cigarettes and gotten in their car and killed someone....so maybe we should totally ban beer and alcohol too. No, no one in my family smokes, I just think smokers get picked on too much.

I love a good friendly debate...so here's my 2 cents!

All Disney needs to do is put a policy into effect that smoking is permitted on the starboard side of the ship (starboard/smoking...easy to remember). That way, people who are opposed to smoking for health or personal reasons could simply confirm a cabin on the port side of the ship and not have to worry about smoke on their veranda or around their deck chair. It would cost Disney nothing to put a policy like this into place, although they would have to enforce it.

And, regarding Carnival's Paradise...the reason they have such great pricing and other cruiselines haven't followed their lead is because they have consistantly had a hard time filling that ship because of the non-smoking policy. They are missing out on the lucrative group, meeting and incentive market because of it. I was a corporate meeting planner in my former life and I know that they were really begging for business. Anytime you plan a trip for 100's of people you'll have a few smokers in the group. With so many other options available, the Paradise just isn't a smart choice for that market.

Again, just my opinion!
