I liked last season better. I understand there were flaws, but I think the writers have swung too far in the other direction. I'm thinking there won't be a Season 3.
Why does Karen's new roommate irritate me? There's just something about her. I also don't think Jimmy and Kyle (are those their names?) are realistic. But of course I'll keep on watching!
I think that the role of Marilyn will go back to Ivy. Wasn't she Tom's original Marilyn? I predict her new show will bomb and close within a week. And then she's free. But ... Karen will workshop Jimmy and Kyle's new musical.
I think we can stick a fork in it now. In April the network is moving the show to Saturdays. Pretty sure that means the show is done as of this season.

BearcatsFan said:I loved it last season. I was so into it and couldn't wait for it to come back, but I think this year it has just fallen way short of the bar they set.
ITA that Ivy will go back to being Marilyn, because yes, she's who Tom wanted originally. It was Derek that wanted Karen.
I love Jimmy's (?) voice - the song with Karen last night was great. But I think it's a bad sign that neither you or I can even remember if that's his name.
I may half-watch one more week and see where it goes.
Don't know if anybody realizes it, but Jeremy Jordan, who plays Jimmy, was the lead in Newsies on Broadway.

I think he's talented, but he's inconsequential to me. I couldn't even remember if he's Jimmy or Kyle (I'm going with Kyle for the other guy's name).
I've even seen Krysta Rodriguez in "The Addams Family" with Wesley Taylor. I don't remember her being particularly irritating in that show, but on SMASH her character (who's name I seriously can't remember) grates on me. I think it's because she comes across as trying too hard.
I'm a pretty good listener, but I think the new parallel story line is a distraction. Apparently, I'm not even paying close enough attention to remember anyone's name. I now understand that's it there to keep Karen viable (assuming Tom is dumping her shortly), but I guess I can't keep track of two things at once!

I was just thinking, "Which one is Jimmy?"![]()
I think the show has gotten progressively worse with each episode. And this week they ALL were so WHINEY!!!Jimmy & Kyle (or whatever their names are,) are sooooo unrealistic. Jimmy acts like a spoiled schoolboy. he keeps complaining that they won't give him their break, but anytime he gets within inches of anyone who has the clout & means to actually help them he's rude, whiny & petulant. They actually gave him his break, got his song out there, and he's STILL rude and whiny.
Then regarding the making of Bombshell, I can't believe this is how people who create a Broadway show actually act like.
And Karen, she has a chance to be in a Broadway show, and she gives it up to do some small showcase with Mr. Whiney Petulant. REALLY???? And why is she helping someone else's Broadway career when her own isn't really established yet and she needs to concentrate on her own?
I find it all so implausible that ALL these people actually would act this way if this was real life.
The writers can't even write THIS show to be a hit. Do they even know what it's like to have written a Broadway show that's a hit?
And as for actor, Jeremy Jordan, they show commercials of him in real life here, promoting some charity thing about getting music back into schools post Hurricane Sandy. He is so warm & personable and cute in the commercial. Where is THAT guy in Smash? It almost seems like his twin brother did the commercial instead because he isn't bringing any of that commercial guy to the screen, even when he & Karen are supposed to be falling for each other.

I'm with everyone else. I don't know what happened this season. I liked last year and I know it didn't perform great so they 'retooled' the show, hired a different show runner...it is worse. Last season Bombshell was the central character. You cared about the show.
Here? Jennifer Hudson? What was the point? Shawn Hayes, again point? I don't hate Jimmy and Kyle because I knew they had to move away from Bombshell but for a show about going to Broadway...Bombshell isn't even there yet!
I like soapy dramas, I still watch the new 90210 (which is better than this) this show had Nashville (set on Broadway and got on air first) potential and it is painful to watch.
I'll DVR it and I'll likely watch but only because there isn't much on right now.
I think they are overthinking the storyline.
Ivy is no longer in Bombshell -- what can we do to keep her character relevant? We will invent (yet another) Broadway show that she will appear in. [She could have stayed on as Derek's girlfriend/muse/advisor on all things Broadway]
Dev is no longer in the show -- what can we do with Karen? We will invent a roommate! [They could have said she living alone and subletting from her cousin, which is how she could afford to live alone in Manhattan.] [Or, as they did on "Friends", just put her in a huge apartment and never mention rent.]
Jimmy and Kyle -- Show #3! [Why?]
We'll just assume that Jennifer Hudson or her agent knew someone who wrote her in. There was absolutely no reason for her to appear on the show. She did nothing to forward the story.
It's frustrating, but I like the musical numbers!
