Debra Messing was playing the whimpering one note in that movie, too. :headache: Is this all she plays? :confused3

I love Smash! I really adore the music, concept and actors. It is a real pleasure to watch.. I love Katherine McPhee as Karen. Her voice is gorgeous.

....I think you're right - that's why she's definitely NOT one of my fave actresses....

....I really like her too, but I think that, since she is supposedly from the Midwest, that she's a little too naive - that bothers me; I don't know why...:confused3

Don't forget ~ it's on tonight! :cool1:

AND the soundtrack comes out tomorrow!! :3dglasses

I always think of Iowa as further "west". Corn belt country. Having a fresh naïveté.

But, I was very young and naïve when I moved here. So I can kind or relate to Karen. It took decades for me to move from stupidly naïve to cynical, jaded, impatient & ornery.

I'm very disappointed in last night's episode. :sad2: Derek and Rebecca I can understand a little, but Ivy and Dev sleeping together? No way.

The writers totally jumped the shark on that one. :furious:

Yes, there is turning out to be nothing redeeming about Ivy. I'm tired of her, "Poor me, Mom didn't love me, so I get to hurt the world back," excuse. :headache: :sad2:

Grow up! Get therapy! Stop hurting and sabotaging others. Maybe Mom didn't love you because look at the person you turned out to BE.

Derek is turning out to be a major Ho. Can men be Ho's? :confused3

....six degrees of naivete`...popcorn::

:rotfl2:

Yes men can be man-hos. I'm not surprised about Derek because before the show started his characters description was pretty much that, chasing around leading ladies.

I haven't watched yet (but yes I am reading). I hate they are turning Dev inot a yucky guy. He was one of the few redeeming people in the show. :lmao:

i hated last night's episode.

i thought Derek hated Rebecca. i guess he's in love with the fantasy of Marilyn and that's why. and i know he's supposed to be a player. but, that part just totally threw me off. and i felt a little sorry for Ivy.

BUT, not now that she's going to sleep with Dev. i get why SHE is doing it, but it makes no sense for his character. he's been all "noble" up to this point.

and Karen, he didn't ask you to marry him RIGHT NOW. idiot. i did not get her reaction at all, "i'm in tech." so? you can't be engaged while in tech? later on she said something about, "i can't marry you right now. i'm in tech." did he ask for right now? generally, isn't there an engagement period?

and yes, she's naive. but she's also clearly an idiot, which goes beyond naivety.

i'm so tired of the Julia/Michael storyline. i don't CARE. all of these people annoy me. somehow, i still like the show.

okay. Derek does not annoy me. but, i think that has more to do with the actor and that his character doesn't PRETEND to have redeeming qualities.

I thought he slept with Rebecca to save his damn show. He did it to bolster the ego of his star, not because he cares a jot for Rebecca. As in what you said below:

and that his character doesn't PRETEND to have redeeming qualities.

I'm sure later on he will tell Ivy that was the only reason he slept with Rebecca, so everything is really all right between him & Ivy.

Ivy, so desperate to be loved, and feeling as guilty as her self-absorbed self can be, will feel a smidge of guilt for sleeping with Dev, so she will choose to believe Derek.

Yes, this I don't get. Dev felt guilty for almost sleeping with R.J.. THAT is really why he proposed. He felt guilty and needed reassurance and for Karen to make things all right and sweep it all under the rug by saying she will marry him. But, if he was going to sleep with anyone at all, it should have been R.J., not Ivy. :confused3

I had to rewind it the second time she said it and she said, "I can't even THINK about whether to marry you right now." They have problems. Rebecca pointed some of it out last week before the Bollywood number. He hasn't been quite there for or with her. And R.J. is a presence in their relationship. I don't have problems with her needing to think things through. Her feelings aren't obviously strong enough to say yes, in spite of it being tech week.

THANK YOU!!! Someone else tired of this shrill one note storyline.

Hello, if she can't even be around Michael, because she's afraid she will get into his pants again, there is something wrong with her marriage AND her impulses. What is she, in high school?

Agreed. I get why Karen isn't ready to consider marriage. It probably wasn't on the radar before, now she has a life, he neglected to tell her that he sacrificed his job for her, then 'almost' cheated on her. So asking her to marry him will solve all that? I think they have some problems to deal with before they take that step.

As for Michael/Julia, Eileen had the best line that should have been said way earlier. It's YOUR screw-up, not ours. I'm really liking Frank for what he's doing, putting his kid and the livelihoods of a lot of others before his ego.

And I also think Derek slept with Rebecca to 'save' the show. (I also think he has a Marilyn thing going. Come on, almost sleeping with Karen during her audition (when he wanted her to have the part), sleeping with Ivy when she got the part, now Rebecca. Seriously?
