(Small) Vent About Father's Day Cards

I was just at the card store trying to find a Father's Day card for my husband. Every year I have trouble locating a card that touches on and honors the great qualities in a good father. You know, like spending time with the kids, setting a good example, being a man of character, etc., etc. I find it odd that almost all the cards say nothing about him being a good Dad. I mean, it is 'Father's Day' after all and they should stick with the subject. Leave the "so happy we are married" stuff for birthday's and anniversaries, I want to tell him in a card how much I appreciate what a good father he is, but I can never find one!!!

I can never find a card for my dad, either.

They are either all, YOU DRINK BEER AND ARE BALD cards, or the are too sappy and it doesn't suit us at all. Example: I know I don't tell you how often I appreciate and love you, but Dad, you made me into the person I am today! Thanks for teaching me how to plumb!

My dad doesn't golf, doesn't drink beer, proudly covers his bald head with extra hair, doesn't give me money like an ATM and doesn't mow lawns.


I usually end up getting him a Homer Simpson card.

I've never understood that.

Most of the cards I've seen have tools or golf on them too. My mom and grandfather did all of our home repairs/renovations and my father has never played or watched golf (or any other sport) in his life.

My husband is very talented in the building/renovating department, but that's not what makes him a good father.

Fortunately, my kids love to make cards so I've stopped visiting that department completely.

I say go for a blank card and write what you want to say. Problem solved.

i have the same problem...my father really wasn't much of a dad, and all the cards are so sappy and filled with "i'm so grateful for the lessons you taught me", blah, blah, blah. my dad didn't really do much aside from provide sperm, so father's day cards are a nightmare for me. it's much easier to buy one for my DH and DFIL.

Momof1princess.........I was JUST going to say the same thing! My daughter (20) has THE hardest time finding a card. They all say a bunch of BS that does not apply to her! He WASN'T around, he DIDN'T teach her anything, he NEVER opened his wallet........

She jokes that we wants a card for him that says, "Thanks for being the sperm donor."

And one for me that says, "Happy Fathers Day, Mom!"

I'm 23 and I still get my dad (and my mom, for that matter) cards that are supposed to be from little kids. I can't imagine ever giving those uber mushy adult cards to my parents. I don't know who these "Mother" and "Father" people are on these cards... I have a "Mommy" and a "Daddy"... I guess for some people, they work, but not for me. I also sign the card from the cat and the parakeets.

My mother left me when I was a child and my Dad raised me on his own. I do remember giving him a Mother's Day card that was for single dads

OP, I make cards every year for my dh and the Grampas. I search online and find a poem thats fitting for them and use it in my card. Sometimes I just have the kids make pictures and we put that into a card instead of words.

My Dad wasn't around much when I was a child so the silly cards actually work best for us. This year I got one that shows a little girl picking her nose. Inside it says "Dad, if it weren't for you Mom would have turned me into a total lady". Gross - but it works for our relationsihp.

I was just saying the same thing today!! For my kids' father....we usually try to pick out one that just says "Happy Fathers Day" inside....with some strange or funny picture on the front.....nothing more.

It's sooo hard to find one. Wish I could send him one that says "Thanks for nothing" or "Thanks for showing me what not to be". Obviously, for the kids, I wouldn't though.
