Well, the bad news is I wasn't able to have the biopsy today. The doctor was not able to do it because the lump was too deep and too small. He says I need to have a different type of biopsy called a Stereotactic Biopsy which involves some kind of machine. I now have to head back to the hospital on either Monday or Wednesday (whenever they can fit me in) and have it done then. I am very frustrated because I had really psyched myself up to have this over with today and have the results in the next couple of days. It is very discouraging to have to wait several more days to start all over again.
The waiting is definitely the hardest part.
The good news is the surgeon had a lot of encouraging words for me today. He said because the lump is so small it would probably only be a stage 1 or (somewhat unlikely) stage 2 cancer, if it is even malignant. He said the survival rate for this type is very high which made me feel much better. They are concerned however because of such a strong family history of breast cancer.
That's all I know for now. It certainly has been a stressful day, but I was able to get through it knowing how many of you have offered me such encouraging words. I really appreciate all the PM's and emails from so many of you. Thanks again!
edited because I had the name of the procedure wrong!
