I am considering getting a small SUV instead of a family sedan. I will buy one that is two to four years old. I like the Honda CR-V from what I have read online and will be going to look at one tomorrow.

Do any of you own the Honda CR-V and what do you like and not like about it? What about the Toyota RAV, Ford Escape, etc?

Thanks for your assistance!

My best friend has a Ford Escape and she loves it. It's been a good car and she is not exactly the type of person who babies a car, if you KWIM.

My DSIL has a Toyota RAV-4 and she likes it as well.

We have a Saturn Vue and have been very happy with it. :thumbsup2

We have a toyota highlander, I like it because it is small but still seats 7. The gas mileage is pretty good and it has good storage when you fold down the back seat. No maitennce issues either.

THanks for the replies so far! It is mainly my daughter and myself that the vehicle is for. My husband has a vehicle provided by his work, he travels Mon thru Fri for his job in several other states. My teenager has his own vehicle and is working and going to school, hanging with his friends.

I have a 1994 Volvo sedan, but the repairs are now getting too costly. I was thinking a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry, but a friend of mine rented a RAV4 with the V6 for a long weekend in Asheville we took together and it was so fun. Plenty of room for the three of us (two adults and my daughter in her car seat). So I switched to a small SUV. I maybe put about 6000 miles on my Volvo a year, but once I get this new vehicle, I would feel more confident about driving to Asheville, Atlanta, Charleston, etc.

We have a Hyundai Santa Fe and we like it a lot.

I love my Highlander too.

I have a 2005 CRV-Honda:cool1: I love my little SUV. We bought it new in 2005, trading in our 2001 Ford expedition. We have considered trading and buying the new design CRV, but I decided that I couldnt part with my little silver skate.

I have a 2002 CR-V, and it's my baby!

We're a 2 Honda family, and this is my second CR-V! Our first one was a 1999, and we traded it in on the 2002. It had 99,970 miles on it- and the only repairs it ever needed was a light bulb. I don't count the belts and oil as repairs, just maintenance.

I am coddling it a bit- the first one we drove EVERYWHERE and the miles mounted up fast! This one is 6 years old and only has 72,000 miles on it. And it goes like a champ! It holds quite a bit with the back seat laid down, and it never complains.

Good luck with your search!

I have a Ford Escape (I got it last November) and I LOVE it! It is pretty spacious but not too big. I am trying to remember....I test drove a few cars and I think it was the CR-V or Rav 4 that I drove and did not like how it drove at all. It felt unstable and shaky to me. I found the Ford Escape really comfortable and easy to drive. It also is pretty affordable as SUVs go. Have fun finding a new vehicle!

We have a 2003 Subaru Forrester. It's been an excellent car. It's a small SUV, but is considered a wagon by our insurance co., which means lower insurance. Also, it has all wheel drive, which is great in the winter and gets very reasonable gas mileage! :thumbsup2

We bought a 2008 CR-V in March. I absolutely love it. When we bought it, we never expected we'd do much traveling in it but decided since it gets better gas mileage than my husband's Pilot, we took it to Orlando in May. It was so comfortable that we decided to drive it to Chicago last month. I honestly can't think of anything I don't like about it.

We have a Jeep Patriot and I love it. It gets better gas mileage than many midsize sedans. I think it gets better gas mileage than all other non hybrid SUV's.

Consumer reports likes
Subaru Forrester
Toyota Rav 4
Honda CRv
I have a Forrester that I just got a month ago and I am enjoying it.
I would look at reviews online. Just google reviews for whatever model you are interested in. Edmunds.com has reviews as well.

Mine's a 2001. I love it for these reasons, too!!

I'm actually looking at replacing my 4Runner with a Nissan Rogue, and so far I'm impressed with it. I rented one for an extended test drive, and I am leaning more towards it than any other vehicle.

Check it out.
