SlutWalks?

Its more than nudity, more than morality. This is a backlash against the pervasive belief that the way a female presents herself, as interpreted by an onlooker, justifies her treatment.

Thinking this is about looks is way too shallow, painfully so... listen to the people marching and actually hear them.

**I just came back to say that I don't mean the word shallow like some half hearted insult, I mean the meaning is deeper, dig deeper beneath the surface, I use the word shallow very literally.

There's no way I'm getting into this discussion.

I just needed to say that "SlutWalks" is hilarious! What's this world coming to??:rotfl: (Don't answer that!;))

Actually I think he meant the same freedom that gives women the right to walk around dressed like sluts gives policemen the freedom to speak their mind and give their opinion even if you don't agree with it. Here, there is no danger and in reality you aren't going to effect any actual change. If you want to really try and create social change go to a place that give women NO rights, like the places he mentioned, and walk around dressed that way.

Of course the initial comment was in Canada which isn't the U.S. but I get the spirit of what he is saying.

The policeman most certainly did not have the freedom to voice that opinion. He was acting as a representative of the police force he even phrased it with a qualifier "I know I shouldn't say this, but". This is why he was reprimanded.

I added a little but I was just taking a stab. I was just trying to interpret what he was saying.

In reality it is not all that brave to dress like a slut in a country where it is completely legal to do so. If you want to really make social change go somewhere where that isn't allowed and do it. I think these walks are more silly than poignant.

Everyone is aware that their attire is legal. They are fighting the perception of the police force, and the general public, who continue to make these sorts of statements, and not only beleive them but let it interfere with the carriage of justice.

Its a little silly to insist that everything worth fighting for needs to incite some sort of violence. Surely you're aware that the morales from the countries you listed in your subsequent posts cross into both my country and yours? I have certainly seen the news articles reporting honour killings, for seemingly implausible reasons like wearing high heels, and driving in the evening.

It would be nice to enact social change in all countries, but I don't think that means all other issues should be off the table.

I don't think a policeman who is paid to protect people has the right to say people who he deems to look like sluts should blame themselves for their rape. I am ashamed of those who think this is true.

If you can't see what point is being raised by these marches, then you are IMO obtuse.

:thumbsup2

I completely agree. Modest is hottest!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

You should make that a bumper sticker. I know some folks who would snatch it up.
